The night keeps getting better and better. My kid took her first steps less than 12 hrs ago, I have a sword due to arrive in the next few days(my 1st) and now my girl's friend at work had a neighbor move out and give her two swords as a parting gift. NOW she will sell them to me for 50$. However cannot see them til day of purchase(sat.). She did however send me a couple picks. One looks like a claymore, the other I can't tell.?. Sorry for the picture quality. Can anyone tell me about these swords, either way it's been a great day. {EDIT} O.k, that should do it.  Thanks

Those photos are really bad! Sorry but you need to get some much better shots for us to give a decent id. Gut feeling they look like cheap rubbish swords.
Saying it as how I see it!

No apologies necessary, I honestly want to know. Those are bad pics. The other looks like fantasy type of deal. Thanks anyway. My incredible lack of sharpening experience might appreciate them. Not really interested in decorative swords though. + :?:

One is definitely a claymore, most likely a depeeka, but can't tell for sure. The other is an old "Bud K" special, probably a kit rae. As others have said, better pics would do, but I doubt they'll do to cut with. As for the magnet, they will stick to carbon steel the same as mild steel.

Hey at least they will do as sharpening practice- that's just what I used my old slo's for. Any who knows, maybe the claymore is a decent brand. For $50 I think it's a good gamble

The fantasy one at the right looks like the Valermos sword from Kit Rae, mainly by the pommel, although with golden furniture. Definitely not cutting material, but at $50 is a steal nonetheless: www.kitrae.net/fantasy/kr6_anathros_ad.htmlReally, REALLY crappy pictures

Thanks everybody, I'm going to get them and take my chances. If nothing else to sharpen, swing around and wonder what could be. I'll finish this with a quality pic or two if anyone's interested.

Don't swing them around if they are slo's(sword like objects) no matter how tempting it is.
There is a very good chance of a helicopter of death scenario occurring. they aren't designed to be swung and in all likelihood have a rat tail tang which can break very easily. If the second one is a Kit Rae sword under no circumstances would I swing it around or do anything with it over than stick it on the wall.

 Thanks 14th, that was one of the first videos I saw here, but just in case I didn't, I appreciate the warning. Sorry, I should have chosen my words more carefully. Not really swings so much as practicing my form. Karma @ U.

No problem. Just wanted to be sure. Unfortunately the way these things work is that you don't hit yourself but your spouse, kids or neighbor which makes you feel even worse. In my case I'm quite good enough at doing a number on myself as it is. I tagged myself pretty good today using a horse bow even wearing a bracer. Some not pretty pictures: It hurts like blue blazes. The only thing that kept me from swearing a blues treak and jumping up and down in pain was not wanting to embarrass myself in front of the other people on the range.

Holy WOW, looks like arm fillet, Hyrogenperoxide on that one. Those are some attractive bows, real horse hair?

No, these are made of fiber glass, leather and wood and some type of synthetic for the string. They still pack a punch if they hit your arm wrong. Here's a pic of the bow I was using: What was funny was the other people on the range where shooting modern composite bows with pulleys, arrow rests, sights and 100lb draws and my 50lb draw recurve bow was generating more speed and force than theirs.

Claymore is definitely a Deepeeka or some cheap maker. Saving grace is that even if the tang is crap, if the blade is carbon steel you can cut it down into a decent (if heavy) single-hander, and even the weight can be reduced with a bloody lot of grinding. Might not really be worth it time-wise, it's up to you.
The fantasy sword isn't a Kit Rae, just some Made in China kind of thing. No idea what kind of brand it might be, and wouldn't particularly care personally. Do use it to practice sharpening with though... and round off the edge right after!
14th, would that happen to be one of the new bows from KoA? I've been interested in those for a while...

That's sounds like a fun project, an allows me to keep my real sword intact while I practice. How can I check if its carbon? magnets?
