one of the few times I wished I had HBO some info from the web.... "HBO has released another trailer and poster for their new fantasy series “Game of Thrones. The series will be a huge step away from the hardcore dramas and comedies the cable network currently airs. They’ll have to blend it with the rest of their programming, while trying to satisfy fans of the books from which the show is based. That’s a tall order. See how the series stacks up with the latest poster and preview… “Game of Thrones” is set in the mythical land of Westeros and tells the story of the noble Stark family who become caught up in high court intrigue when patriarch Eddard becomes the king’s new right-hand man. The cast includes Sean Bean, Lena Headey, Peter Dinklage, and Jason Momoa."

I cannot frickin' wait for this. It looks awesome, everything I've seen about it looks like they are going to do real justice to the book. Obviously they can't include everything but I think this will be one of the better book-to-screen adaptations.

I'll have to wait for it to come out on DVD :x
so far, the only movie I've seen that was pretty much word for word and scene for scene from the book was Green Mile. all I know is that Sean Bean is the man! dam you premium cable channels!!

I like their interpretation of the throne. Not quite what I pictured, but it's still pretty cool.

HBO already reeled me into subscribing a year ago with true blood. The fact that they're now making a fantasy based series is a major perk. Can't say I've read the books this is based on, but if I like this show as much as I enjoyed True blood, it's pretty much guaranteed I'll look into the books and read them. In fact that's how I became introduced to the Sookie Stackhouse series in the first place, though I do have to admit I like the books better than the t.v. show in the case of True Blood.

HBO shows piss me off (didn't they actually show some movies at some point?) and I'm not familiar with the source material, but Sean Bean is awesome in everything that he does so I might have to check this out...

I find that this is the way it usually goes. I rarely like the show/movie more than the books. even though I thought the LOTR movies were an epic masterpiece I couldn't possibly compare them to the books. maybe....I enjoyed the shining more as a movie but mostly because of Jack though. it's a close one but maybe blade runner also

Personally I think as far as LotR goes the movies and the books are two totally different animals. I enjoyed the movies for what they were, even though there was a lot I could leave *cough*LivTylerasArwen*cough*, but there's absolutely no comparison between them and the books to me. As such they each get their own section of my mind as far from each other as possible just so my inner Elf doesn't cringe in terror because of the vast differences between the two.
I'm sad to admit I have no experience with the shining.... I know I know, it's a classic, how could I have never seen it.... I just never got around to renting it and it's like one of the very few Stephen King books I've yet to read.... Ok that and the Dark Tower Series, but in my defense they are on my list.
Never read Blade Runner but Silvermoon and I do own the movie, which once again I had never seen until he introduced me to it, which surprises me... I'm still boggled over how I could possibly have missed a movie starring Harrison Ford.

Song of ice and fire is an excellent series of books, though unfinished and with the nasty tendency of the apparent heroes always dying off.

HBO has got a 14 minute preview up on their site now. I'm thinking of ordering HBO just to watch this, but I seriously hate to spend the money. I should really wait for it on DVD but who knows when that'll be.

And if you weigh the cost of the DVD's versus the subscription plus cancelation fee for HBO, I'd say that subscribing would come out cheaper. I do have a friend who has HBO and a DVR. He was friends long before I heard about Thrones... honestly!

Cancelation fee? I've never heard of this for canceling a movie channel package. Is this something exclusive to HBO? Anyway, here's the thing: I will get the DVDs, I know, so the question is do I watch it on HBO first, just because I'm excited about seeing it ASAP, too, or do I just wait maybe six months for the DVDs to come out. See, the whole thing is silly but I'm really stoked about this and I don't know which way to go!

Oooor just torrent the episodes when they come out. Free!
If they don't mess up the show (I don't think they will, HBO as a good track record) then I will be supporting the show by purchasing it on bluray when it comes out.

Oh, I was just guess at the cancellation fee, I don't watch TV all that much, or really have much more then basic cable, so I don't know.

I have no idea how to torrent a show, Aaron, even if it is a good alternative, which it probably is. I sort of decided that I don't know how to find free ways to watch shows online and I'm not going to try. Even watching short You Tube videos and the like is aggravating enough because I always have to pause and wait for it to buffer a million times. Ach, technology! So....yeah, I don't know.
Greg, I might be finding out about that cancellation fee if I do indeed bite the bullet and order the HBO. I've never had HBO. I bet it's nice. We'll see.

I have no idea how they are going to make this series without it being shockingly depressing the whole way through. The book series was even a bit of a downer for me... I know that fantasy novels are a bit too "sterilized" when it comes to a lot of the practices that went down in Medieval Europe (incest, etc), but that's why I read fantasy books - to get away from reality!
Plus the author is really old and nowhere near done the series... which reminds me, how come no one is making a series out of the Wheel of Time?

yup, me too. I am usually not able to watch a series consistently and wind up missing some episodes which in turn leads to me giving up because I missed too much, lol
I think it's going to be a great show and I'm patient enough to wait for blueray plus, it will probably come with a bunch of extras.

Well, yeah. Pretty much. Even the fans complain about how it just Drags into one of the most boring series they've ever forced themselves through. The first couple books were supposedly good, but slow, the rest were just slow. Personally, I find the author has as much talent as Frank Herbert's son.
