Well, this'll be more of a "show off" thread than a review. After a year of impatience and anxiety I finally got my first full-custom euro/fantasy sword. After seeing so many awesome swords coming out of John Lundemo' s shop I decided to go with him for my commission and boy was it a good choice! He really improved upon my original design and created a weapon I will forever treasure. This thing handles like a dream...an absolute DREAM! John's leatherwork on the grip and scabbard is practically flawless. And its sharp...I mean newspaper-shaving SHARP. Cutting vids and impressions forthcoming...I've been so busy playing with it that I haven't had time to do much more than snap some pics and take some basic measurements. So here they are...let me know what you folks think.
Blade: 36" w/ 9" ricasso Hilt: 12" total Grip: 9.5" total Guard: 9.5" POB: about 4.5" from the guard

Oh Travis , I have been looking at Christian Fletcher's "Border Watch" sword with a great deal of lust lately, and now you show me this, dam you! It is great absolutley fabulous, a strong warriors sword, the ricasso certainly makes it stand out from the crowd and it is colored envy green because I am. Very Well done by John, Simple yet Stylis.

Once again John out does himself. That is simply beautiful, I'm really liking the ricasso too. Can't wait for videos.

Extremely handsome sword! I love the blueing. Something I miss with the stainless hardware.
So what's the gross weight on this bear. All that blade and a 4.5 inch CoB seems to indicate a pretty healthy counterweight.
3.5 lbs? More??
Enjoy.

Hi Dave...weight is just a tad over 3 lbs. The pommel is pretty beefy in addition to the 12" overall hilt it is a very effective counter balance. Also the thickness of the ricasso section combined with the significant distal taper helps to keep most of the mass toward the guard.

3 lbs. Tres chic. Knowing the weight helps me visualize what the pics are telling me. Lot of grinding to get this sword fine tuned harmonically. Sweet....

Hell yes. Funny thing about Johns work, he incorporates a lot of elements into his swords that I normally don't like, but that I love when he does it: I'm generally not a fan of a ricasso, but he really makes it work on this one. Same thing for S-guards and ring-pommels, until I saw Marc Ridgeways Laird. Looks like you got a scabbard too. May I ask, how much did this whole package run you?

Oh... My... God... Travis... I'm beyond Jealous. That sword... from specs to design to color... its almost exactly in all ways like something I would have made myself. First Marc Ridgeway has one made that is almost bang on what I wanted... then you also do the same. I'm going to cry. The sword is beautiful brother.

Yep, John made me a top-notch scabbard as well. I'd hate to divulge the price without John's ok...let's just say I'm VERY happy with the price I paid and what I got for the money. Less than you'd think. Sean, I'm so glad you like it...figured it'd be right up your alley (as we seem to reside in that alley simultaneously ) This green's for you! ps. I need to accumulate some milk jugs and 2 liter bottles to cut for the vid...give me a couple days. I'm FAR to scared to take this baby to bamboo yet (though I have NO DOUBT it could easily handle it).

My thanks, Marc! I must say that the grip of your LAIRD is what convinced me to go with leather over cord rather than burl...but John does both so damn well.

I'm looking for Ray Finkle. And a clean pair of shorts.
That sword is 200% badass, I can't find a single thing I don't like about it. Would be honored to have it in my collection. I agree with Sneakypete about John's work. Aside from this and the XIX.1 from Gus, I can't think of a single sword with a ricasso that I like. But John really pulls it off.
