A picture of the haul (and some of my favorite holiday companions in the background). Some highlights: *A new dremel tool! *A set of Japanese woodcarving chisels *A new notebook/sketchbook and some vellum transparent drawing paper. *Two sets of of drawing pens. *The aforementioned copy of Oakeshott's Records * Under the Black Flag: the definitive tome on the subject of pirates. A VERY merry Christmas! Though perhaps not as merry as Dave's in material finery! But loving friends and family are better gifts than any sword, and for that I feel truly blessed this holiday season. Merry Christmas, everybody!

I ended up getting a Nintendo Wii so I'm pretty happy. Just got to figure out what games I want to get for it.

My family is aware of my love of swords, so what did I find under the tree? An Anduril letter opener. I'll take it!

I got a Neil Burridge bronze Khopesh that replicates one found in Tutankhamun's tomb. MOST excellent. I got my wife an intact Herodian oil lamp unearthed in Jerusalem Circa 5 BC to 25 AD (not a replica). What can I say? We're history buffs.

Hey Dodger got any pics or just a few thoughts, I think Neils works is great one of my favorites is the Khopesh and would also get a Whitehouse sword. The lamp sounds great having something 2000 years old in your house, wow where do you keep it?

Hey Deepbluedave. Here's a few pics of Neil's Khopesh. You're absolutely right. He does awesome work, and he's one of the few authentic bronzesmiths left. As for the lamp, we put it in a custom shadow box and mounted it on the wall. We've got far too many grandchildren who can knock things off tables. That lamp has probably survived half a dozen earthquakes, but three year olds can bend the needle on the Richter Scale.

I did the hilt myself. It's a type of stone we have up here called Argylite. The white is clay that's inset and then fired in the oven. There's lots of pictures of Pharaohs holding a Khopesh, but I noticed one in the background of a fresco from Thebes with a charioteer with a Khopesh sticking out of a holder on his chariot. As best as I can make out, the grip has this design.

I got my boy a .22 when he was 8 years old. He's 29 now and he keeps my freezer filled with Moose, Deer, etc. Well worth the investment.
