*raises thread from the grave* Behold! From Slovachian smith Ladislav "Lasky" Šánta. Also, this insane thing from Patrick Barta:

That Barta is surely a work of art, but the top one from Ladislav is just hitting on so many different levels.
Behold is right. Behold, for the awesomeness has arrived, and its name is type X.
Two outstanding looking pieces Anders, I wish I had the werewithal to own them both.

The blue on that Lasky is unreal. The Barta is wonderful and gorgeous and all, surely. But it looks too ceremonial for my taste.

Exactly.
I would be reticent about hacking about with either one of them, but given the choice, the Ladislav would be my pick. It's styling without being too over the top flamboyant.
That Barta piece would have to be carried by no less than the Crown Pimp of Trondheim, complete with leopard skin cloak, purple velvet cap, and a cart with spinners.

I am not going to say any one sword is the "best looking in the world" I like 'em all. I like all sorts of swords, and find them all pretty nice looking. My favourite look is the kissaki moroha zukuri and I loved the Hokke Saburo Nobufusa signed kissaki moroha zukuri that sold for $11,000 on ebay back in August of 2010. Sadly I don't have pictures of it since my laptop died, and the ones online are no longer up. I looked through the pictures already posted in this thread, and see some very attractive blades. I am always amazed at some of the work done on swords. I noticed my favorite art sword from Gold Mountain was not posted up yet, so will post it. I love the detail worked in on this blade, it is truly a work of art. I could see someone using this as a cane out for a night of opera.

And a turnip on his belt---which was the style at the time.

This. If I had the cash, this would be my ideal weapon, in both aesthetics and function (never held it, but considering the weight, size and POB I cannot see it letting me down).

The most beautiful sword in the world is a custom 17th century military sword made for me by Arms and Armor. I'm too stupid to figure out how to post a photo here, so here is a Link to its thread on myArmoury

A lot of my favorites are already here.. And those beyond them really are designed but not already made, for the most part, but laird and du sith were on it. Great thread, and just some gorgeous work.

I am so glad someone resurrected this thread. Barta needs to be on it. I love a bunch of his and any of maybe 6 or more of his could be involved in the discussion.
And now I hear about this Šánta guy...damn is that beautiful. Another smith to add to my wish list.

Dang Josh, that one's all kinds of good-looking. I don't know why I like that horimono so much, but I DO. You just need to upload the photo to a hosting site like photobucket and then post the IMG code here. It will look something like this, but with no spaces. whateverthenameofyourhostingsiteis.com/albums/swordsaresocool/badasssword.jpg[/img ] Then compose the rest of your post, hit sumbit, et voila! The green corner makes it bigger. *Protip*--you can always hit "quote" on somebody's post to see how they composed it and what codes they used to get it to look how it did. Re: colors, size, photos, videos and what not. Your sword is gorgeous, by the way.

I do have to give a nod to Fable Blades... there are several worthy of discussion here, This one has always spoke to me...and if anyone here owns it, sell it to me lol www.fableblades.com/Gorsimi.htmlThis is like the opposite of the flash of the Barta piece, very earthy look that I find very appealing.

The hamon on that Bolf piece is absolutely insane, insane as in WOWZERS
That Katana is cooler than a penguin sitting on an iceberg.

My favorite sword is the FableBlades LongClaw. The blade dimensions and fittings appeal to me in a way that no other blade has. Its literally the only sword out there thats wowed me this much
