Thanks all. I was just curious about if one had no choice but to fight with a sword, what would you choose. I appreciate your answers. And MOK, thanks for answering my question, and I can see your point now.
And Carbon_Wolf, to whom were you addressing that remark about getting some grammer lessons and learning to spell. I hope you jest sir. Some of us probably get on here and type fast and hurridly post their response, etc.. And some of us perhaps really can't spell that well or grammar is not perfect. But we get on here to share info and share our love and interest in edged weapons. What grammar was so bad and what was so mispelled you had to make a derrogatory comment about that? Just curioius. Later Brothers, Freebooter

No prob bro, no prob. I probably should not even have thought anything about it. I am from Alabama and talk with a serioius old south accent and have caught hell a good part of my life about it.
Since posting that earlier I have been watching and studying my Cold Steel's "Fighting with the Sabre and Cutlass" DVD set. It is a very good, informative set. Got my cav sabre out and went through a lot of the motions with it and the DVD. Been having some fun with that. I highly recommend that DVD set to anyone serious about sabre martial art. Later, FB

Actually, just to be picky, there's nothing wrong with the grammar of the title.

Well, it does lack a "?" at the end...

Hey Freebooter, Fhtagn is Wes's custom Cthulu-themed kopis, with a blade by Brendan of Fableblades, hilt and fittings by Jeffery Robinson, and scabbard by Sonny of Valiant Armoury. It looks like this: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=150&p=360#p360............................................................................................................................................. As for me, I'm also in the zone where battle in wardrobe Narnia is the likeliest scenario for me to actually use my swords, but for fun I'd say... My Christian Fletcher/Angus Trim Venetian Bastard Sword for an unarmored duel. A machete or my Angus Trim 1557 for my apartment. Shocking, I know.

A buddy of mine has MRL's Shrewsbury sword, which much like that one you posted with the brown handle and scabbard. And man is it a light, quick, deadly sword. So wonderfully agile in the hand. I am a curved blade man but that Shrewsbury is one fine sword. FB

Hmm, considering I know how effective it is at cutting flesh and bone, I'd take this;
Also it is a 12 inch blade and a 6 inch handle so it gives me a great deal of leverage. After I had explained to the unfortunate soul who had broken into my home just what kind of horrific damage it could inflict and calmly shown it to them, I'm sure they'd go away peacefully. I'd never use it on a human being but it is a damn good threat.

Where ever I happen to be, I'm always scanning my environment for any object that could be used as an impromtu weapon at a moments notice should the situation arise.
As a very wise man once said to me, "Always be kind to everyone you meet, but secretly have a plan on how to kill them, you know... just in case.". ... :twisted: :mrgreen:

Seriously, even if I am at the river fishing, picnicing, etc, I always think of such things, what I could make a weapon out of. If I got stranded or lost somewhere, if I did not already have a weapon with me (I usually do), the first thing I would do is make one, a spear, a rock in a sock, anything! FB

First off, for all of you out there that are opting for throwing weapons (axes, knives, cats, etc) remember that once you throw a weapon, you no longer have that weapon, and if you miss, or it doesn't land pointy end first, then the intruder has a weapon too.
So remember, hang on to your pointy things.
Also, OP, you have a teenage son who gives you reason to lock up your guns? Why is it that you aren't locking up your swords then?
As for the question, Valiant Armory Arming Sword. Here's why: -Out of all my swords it is the one I practice with the most. Remember, even if one sword is "better" in terms of stats, if you aren't practiced with it, then it aint worth jack. -It still has a sharp tip. If you ever actually find yourself in a confrontation with only a sword, remember that thrusts work extremely well. If you go swinging it around, yeah you might get a flesh wound, but if your adversary is spry, you'll likely just be swinging at air. Also, even if they have a non-firearm weapon themselves, I doubt that a run of the mill criminal will be able to parry. But I suppose if you live in a studio apartment and have a 15' high ceiling and no walls, that you can fight however you feel like.

Planning for a sudden zombie apocalypse (or ninja attack, whatever) has always been my favorite pastime when visiting the hardware store. Oh, my, just look at all those weird and wonderful blades in the gardening section...!

Hey Greg, My edged weapons are on a display on my LR wall. One son is grown and gone, the other is a senior in HS. He handles the edged weapons here and there. He has been raised responsibly about weapons. He knows not to up and play with them. Here and there one of his friends will ask to look at a sword. But guns are a different matter entirely. A sword might be dropped, or something but it won't harm someone a block away or go through three apartments to hit someone the way an accidental discharge from a gun might do. Big difference. FB

Probably my stage smallsword. not because it has anything resembling a functional edge, mind you, but because it has an all metal scabbard (to make that nice hollywood "sching!" sound) with a nice heavy knotwork knob at the end that would probably crack open someone's skull if they were hit with it at moderate speed. Sadly, I don't have any other swords at the moment, so blunt force trauma would have to do.
