Dave, of all your many, many swords, and I am sure you have handled and hefted them, etc., which ONE sword would you use if you had to fight for your life? I am just curious. I should have just simply asked which one is your fave! LOL!
Oh, Dave, I saw the flag and about your ancestors! I know you must be proud of them. I have researched mine as well and know what unit they were in.

Impossible to tell you that there is just one sword I would risk my life with. Situations favor different weapons. Obviously I'm a devotee of the military cavalry saber. And there are 7-9 of my French sabers I would bet my butt on. While I love my big medis, the Atrim XIX is the most versatile for probable targets. The Atrim 1557 is just amazing, but short bladed. A good home defense/close quarters blade ( Like my Mainz Gladii. ) My Italian 1871, Argentine 1898, Swiss 1867 are highly efficient and good handling. Rapiers don't work usually, but my Cervenka is tremendously adgile with a nasty hollow ground blade. Hopeless task.
I think I mentioned the ebay flagmakers who did mine. Nice people to work with. Nice job. Ever want to take a whack at your own regimental they would be the ones to do it. They can go full historical or help you accomodate budget constraints with a slightly smaller flag.

I thought you would have picked the Windlass St. Maurice Sword and beat bad guys to death with the pommel. :-)

That's like suggesting I could use that Maximus spatha, just so I could humanely deal with intruders by causing them to laugh to incapacity...

Yeah - but when they are laughing, you could wack them with the mighty pommel.

Thanks Dave. I too am a cavalry saber lover. I love the U.S. 1840 and 1860 Cavalry Sabres, which I have handled and owned originals and repros. Never handled any, but I love some of the French ones ours were patterned after. Later, Freebooter
