Being stupid, had just peened a brass end cap on to a langsax, had gloves on reached out to check to see if the end cap was tight. Burned through the glove, of course I got hand back quick cutting the tip of my right index finger. Won't do that again, once was enough. At least I didn't have to stop working to stop the bleeding.

definitely one of the first things to learn around the foundry (and I guess the forge too) - let it fall - try to save it and the ungrateful bee-otch will either burn you, cut you, grind you or shock the crap out of you… or some combination of all the above… hahahahaha Good thing we love what we're doing, eh? hahahahaha
Burned through the glove? now that really sucks - can't trust nothin no more...

Sharp edge I guess very hot and thin leather gloves.
After all these years (3), still do stupid things. Had to dodge a blade that got away form the tongs several times. Wear good heavy work boots. Can't believe these people I seen do hot work in shorts and sandals

Dude - after three years? How about after more than twelve years (in the foundry, and more than 30 around boat yards, car lots, construction sites and just generally fixing and fabricating all sorts of things….) and I still come up with new and imaginative ways to mangle myself… hahahahahaha
I like working with thin gloves too, better "feel" to 'em… but I do put on the thicker ones for hot stuff… I guess you do too, now, eh?

Just got to remember not to touch things that are hot. Just had a bad brain fart on this one and others. Just 3 years forging, I have plenty of other ways to hurt myself over the years. Worst one making blades was catching a blade to the forehead off a buffer, got a nice big gash. Good thing the point didn't get me. Derailed this thread for a while.

Gorgeous blade!! I think it's going to be the best Atlantean sword replica ever made! Fantastic work Sir!

L Driggers - no derailment here, Brother - this thread is all about pain and stupidity… mostly mine, that is… so I appreciate the company! hahahahahaha
Thank You Edward - the next news should be a bit more interesting than this soap opera installment… hahahaha
Thank You Anankai! I really value your generous appreciation of my work! Although, with all due modesty, I think "one of" the best replicas is more like it… Albion and Brother Banzai have set a pretty high bar on this one… but then again, who am I to quibble over details, eh? Hahahahaha Again, Thank You!!!

In my life I've had plenty of stupidity and pain. At my age you would think I would stop doing some stupid things.
Any ways the swords are looking good, wish I could have of afforded one. But for now I need to keep buying or upgrading equipment and tools.

Thanks, L D, for the good words. Know what you mean about tools and equipment… there's always that one more piece...
Thanks, Chris! I'm thinking about working up and casting a big old dragon skull for these beasts to be embedded into… what do you think?

I'm thinking about working up and casting a big old dragon skull for these beasts to be embedded into… Pardon me for jumping in (as I am not Chris), but that would be *awesome*! If you do it, please post pictures!! Hell, if it looks as good as I know your skills can produce, I would not be surprised in the slightest if you received requests from the community to buy a few. --Edward

Com'on Edward, you know you don't have to apologize for "jumping in" in this thread - your efforts at keeping me honest are a big part of why the thread's even still going...
And Thank You for the kind words and interest in my dragon skull idea - it would be kind of fun, eh? I think the Warriors deserve that kind of mythic display.

A dragon skull in bronze, sounds brilliant! (perhaps it would weigh a bit too much?). Getting close for you now Chris.
Thanks John for the updates - we're all chomping at the bit again mate, conan, conan!

See, when you’ve done a particular job enough - lots of - times, you know when something is really F’ed up. Or when the remedy is just some hard work that you wouldn’t necessarily have chosen to engage in. That kind of knowledge is what I’m now aquiring regarding steel work.
Didn’t ruin the blade at all... just aquired, along with said knowledge, some blistered fingers from a lot of hand sanding... hahahaha And much additional respect for JohnnyOdin, Brenno, Jeffery, Wes, L Driggers and all the other brothers that do this all the time!
I just can’t seem to photograph the subtlety of steel surface textures...
:-D *nods*

You're right Rob - a bronze dragon skull of a size worthy of the name dragon (as opposed to "scary lizard"…) would be a weighty proposition indeed! I've been pondering some kind of a filled resin mix… want it strong, but not to pull down the wall its hung on… hahahaha
You're even righter about chomp'in on the bit… here too!!!
Sorry about that Sean… especially since I've got to get your sword finished before I can legitimately even start thinking about skull hangers and such… ah well…… but I am thinking about it...
appreciate the nod Brendan! Must be kind of funny for you, hearing me whining about blisters… hahahahaha
