That's funny... but maybe even funnier is that it is not uncommon. Almost all the custom makers I know that I talk to a lot... You Brenno, Tinker, several others... they have made so many swords for others but have none or only a couple themselves. It never ceases to amaze me. It just seems to me you would have racks and racks of your own swords... but it never turns out that way. When you do it for a living... time is money, swords take time, and time spent making swords for yourself is time spent not making money.

Yep. Nicely put. I only have my Falchion (my first blade). One measly sword (and a $50 Global Gear G-100 katana I don't trust). But I crave more for my own use.

Ok folks - I have been in touch with John who has been out of internet access visiting his family. There will be an update shortly from him.
I would like to personally thank everyone invloved for their support and patience and I look forward to the day when we ALL have our Warrior swords (John and me especially as we are last!). Yes it has been a long time since the project started, but I hope the wait will be worth it for such a sword. Right now the list is full (and a few extras people in line) but only the first few are out a deposit - but I want to assure them that if ANY of those people would like to opt out I will repay the deposit straight away.
All the best and cheers!

I love these group projects... And this is one of my two dream swords, swords that got me interested in swords... Sure I wish that the wait was not so long... But this is the only project like this I have not gotten mad about t all.
Must be because I love that ol grey beard bastard...

Holy Mother of S#it’nShinola!!! Ya go underground for what seems like only a couple of days (yeah, yeah, I know it was a whole lot longer than that... I did say “seems like”...) and look at the tempest what brews up... OK, I’ve gotta preface this with a solid acknowledgement that at 4 years and counting, one sword delivered, this whole thing is f#cking ridiculous. Let me repeat that... ree-dic-u-lous. No evasion, no excuses, no sob stories - just - f#cking - ridiculous. Nevertheless, I’m also going to say right out loud that I still love this freaking project. I love the Atlantean. I love seeing it come to life, step by (endless...) step under my hands. And I love the way all of you have backed me up all along this ree-dic-u-lous journey. (and I do mean all of you - even the guys who have ditched out have been very cool about it ) So stick with me here, and you’re gonna get a one-of-a-kind, damn cool sword. Can I get an Amen? Sean - big, big Thank You to you - you’ve really expressed the way it is way better than I could hope to. (Not that I’m not going to try though. Think I’m going to need to put down a whole soul-searching, open-my-chest-and bare my beating heart version of the narrative of this adventure for those brave enough to wade through it. Not here, though, not now.) So, here’s the up-date I was putting together before I stumbled into this well deserved s#it-storm... I was trying to get the runes carving done here at castle graybeard (the foundry is a 33 mi, 1 hour, round trip), using an air compressor I picked up at Harbor Freight. Yeah, didn’t work out too well - industrial grade moisture filter couldn’t keep up with the build up in the lines - pretty soon I was spraying a steady stream of H2O all over the runes. Good to cool the steel maybe, but killer on the internal workin’s of my little 100,000 rpm grinder. So here’s what I got before I had to quit: So I’ll be headed down to the foundry to finish up the carving. I will post results as soon as they’re photographable. It ain’t over yet dammit...

Good to hear you're still sticking to the project, John. Our hopes of owning an Atlantean are riding with you.
. . . and damn, those carved runes are *beautiful*. Well done!

Sean, you are the main man! Thanks!
Thank You Edward!
I'm not sure, but I think I just heard something from somewhere behind me, sounded like "forget about the soul searching, heart baring crap, old beard… just work on the F'ing swords!!!" hahahahahaha maybe good advice, eh?

I still love this project and wish I could have got in on it. I think one big reason everyone is cool with the time, is that Greybeard posts regularly. It doesn't have to be frequently, but at least continuing to post-- helps everyone "feel" like all is well still. Plus all the joking and light hearted comments keep the tone of the thread pleasant.

Edward - nothing to report on Warrior progress... The last fountain $$$ has been spent and I needed to take a very cool commission job that came my way. The money was /is good (and needed...) but deadline is really tight ( thus requiring total time committment) and, true to form, I’ve made it into perhaps more work than it strictly needed to be... on the other hand, when finished, I think its going to be very good.
Like the second Warrior.
As things stand right now, I see it ( the second Warrior) being completed around the end of July. I’ll post pics of WIP as soon as I get this commissioned work finished.

End of July? Cool! I will check back then. Thank you for the news, John!

Way past end of July - halfway through Freaking August already....
I’ve made some progress on the blade, but not nearly as much as I planned or hoped...
Short version - don’t seem to have fully recovered from the damage I inflicted on myself building the last dammed fountain. I just don’t have the brains to use the available hoists and such when that 100 lb chunk of bronze needs flipping over - spent 30-40 years throwing that semprini around whenever I had to and can’t seem to break the habit.
Already had one series of steroid injections in my lower spine, now going for the second set on Thursday. MRI tomorrow to set up right knee replacement surgery... Yes, it feels like I’m falling the f#ck apart... BUT
This is all only relevant to the subject of Atlantean Warriors as explanation - not excuse - for the current delay. I’m not dead or totally incapacitated yet, so there’ll be more progress to report soon. I promise.
Does seem just a little mythical though, don’t it? Your swords emerging from the shadowy caverns of dark and smokey Chester, from the knarled hands of the bent-over, hobbling old pirate… Yeah, thats an interesting picture...
Peace

Looking forward to more info!

naked?!?! Rob??? who said naked???!!! that is a different post entirely… (although these blades/swords are indeed my precccioussssesss… hahahaha)
Thank You Edward. For as much as I'm doing it, I really do hate all this " wah, wah, wah", sempriniing and moaning. Now if the Wifey would just let me swallow as many oxy's as I want (she doesn'tt like "Zombie-John") then I wouldn't be complaining at all… the runes might wander a bit off the blade, but I'd be smiling… hahahaha
hmmmm... wandering runes… no laughing matter, dammit...

Ho-Kay… promises, promises… This isn't the current sword, but I wanted to show you that some semblance of forward motion is being maintained. This is the wax tree for the next sword, all set up to start dipping in ceramic shell. Mold should be done in about a week, week and a half… and then its bronze babeeee!!!more to come… Peace!
