yup, Wes, there was a whole lot of time/work went into making the waxes just right, and since the castings are good otherwise (i.e.: not missing anything or holes, etc...) I'm gonna just have to quit whining and get to it... just aggravated that the new process, which was supposed to make less clean-up, has turned into more, not less...
But since I do actually love doing this work, I guess I shouldn't complain about having more of it to do, eh? hahahahaha bottom line is finished results, which will be good

oh i guess i was m istaken, i was under the impression once you made the original wax and had a rubber mold of it you could just SPAM new waxes.

no, you're kind of right, Wes. The waxes from the rubber molds usually come out pretty good, but as I think you're coming to appreciate from your own work, nothing ever comes out of any mold without needing some kind of fixing. At least thats been my experience, and it just seems to be the nature of things... mold parting lines, air bubbles, warpage, surface inconsistencies... all of which, theoretically, should be able to be prevented - but which in reality, some of which always seem to sneak in there.
so when I get a metal casting thats otherwise good and solid (most of the time...) I'll usually put up with the hassle of extra clean-up work. its just too much work getting that far to toss 'em.

Holy Crom-olies!!! GREAT vid Dave!!! Thank you for putting that up for us all! I can’t tell you how much it gladdens my heart to see that big brute flashing thru those bottles. You make that almost 7 lbs of steel and bronze dance and sing! The ring of the last 2 strikes keeps playing in my head like a favorite song.
That was definitely so nice that I guess I ought to finish up the rest of them for us all to play with, eh? Oh yeah, thats what you’ve all been saying all along... right.
Here’s the deal. My financial situation (and I know I’m far from alone with this...) has been really strained since leaving full time employment at the foundry. When opportunities to score some cash have presented themselves, I have had to jump on ‘em. The fountain was such a situation. Ridiculous amount of work in way too short a deadline (which I didn’t meet anyway...) But it was a good $core, so I did it - to the exclusion of everything else in my life for the duration.
Then, the gallery that had commissioned the fountain, for one of their clients, decided, upon seeing the finished piece, that they wanted one too. To show (and hopefully sell) in their gallery. So thats what I’ve been doing since my last posting here. Another fountain, again to the exclusion of everything else... for the much needed cash.
So the good news is it’ll be finished early this-coming week. And I definitely won’t be taking on anything new til I get at least the next Warrior out the door. Photos soon.
