Thank You Nial. Truly I am getting just as tired of all my complaining as everybody must be of hearing it… hahaha... For the best explanation and illustration of bronze casting that I've seen anywhere, I recommend Brother Banzai's post - the man's work is impeccable, and his post more than lives up to his standards. sbg-sword-forum.forums.net/thread/6032/casting-bronze-hilt-parts

So I think that's what I'm gonna do. Make some more waxes. Pour some more bronze. Get everybody's hilts done and ready to go onto the blades. Then I’ll start putting them together again. I’m sorry that this will put final delivery back a little, (not like you’ve ever heard that before, right?) but it’ll guarantee that all final deliveries do in fact happen. And, of course... there will be pictures! Glad to hear you're still on the project, John! Please also keep us updated on your health-- that's the most important thing. Excited to hear that there will be pictures, too. --Edward

Thanks Rob - fresh bronze, piping hot! well…. soon, anyway… hahahaha
Thanks Edward - still on it - my soul is chained to these legendary blades…
Thanks again, Nial - not telling you anything new about Jeffery then, his and Brenno's father's sword is quite a score! Is that a Barbarian and a Destroyer Atlanteans with it?

Jeffery's stuff is AMAZING - if I try to comment any more I'll just end up embarrassing myself - the man is an undisputed MASTER of the craft

I should let you all know that I’ve been continuing to deal with complications from the back treatment that went south... and the knees... and the getting older... It has been very difficult for a while now to even be up and active, let alone get any work done...
But I also want you to know that this week I’m starting a new regimen/treatment plan that I am really confident will help me get back to my old - no - former - self. Hope springs eternal.

Hey Compadres - , for a while now, due to certain health issues, I’ve been pretty inactive - all-around, but specifically as regards our favorite Warrior steel... so now, as I’m climbing out of this torpor (go PT!!!), I’m looking at the project with somewhat fresh eyes. Some new thoughts ocurring to me.
The “Arnold-esque” weight of the Atlantean is known to all. Its probably the heaviest (yeah, intentional... hahaha) factor taking away true functionality of the sword in the eyes of many observers.
I’ve been thinking of possible ways to reduce the weight of the bronze fittings - maybe hollowing out some areas ( but not reducing strength - those are massive chunks of bronze... a 3/16ths walled tube of bronze (which is essentially what a hollowed out Atlantean guard would be) will definitely stop pretty much any blade you could humanly throw at it. I haven’t done it yet, so I don’t know how much weight can be reduced by that.
I’ve also played around a little with narrowing the fittings overall, getting them closer to historical dimensions, without really changing the look of the sword from the front.
Its all about hanging a bit less bronze on the blade to make the sword more effectively maneuvered/wielded. This seems a good idea to me - but I’m also aware that some (maybe most) may find the massive-ness of the Atlantean a big part of its appeal.
I’d really like to hear all of your thoughts on this, especially those who are waiting for your sword and from those of you who have experience with our, or any, Atlanteans. Thanks!

Jeffrey Robinson (brotherbanzai) did that with his lightweight Atlantean sword, as well as my Antediluvian. He got the weight down to about 5.5 lbs. He did this with a combination of a deeply hollow ground blade and somewhat hollowed out bronze hilt components.

John-- Good to hear you're bouncing back! Always glad to hear from you. As for the weight issue? Personally, I'm a fan of the weightier, traditional "Arnold-esque" bronze guard. Having said that, I know that you'd make it good, and durable, either way. --Edward

Great to hear your on the mend John, as for the weight of the Atlantian it is what it is, a functional two handed fantasy sword that was meant to welded by only the strongest warriors because once this bad boy gets going it takes a lot of stopping, like most of us it could lose a little weight but I personally like it how it is, it is big it is heavy but it is also great to cut with and the most handled sword I own. So take it easy and look after yourself buddy.
Edit... still have a video up of this one cutting up some bottles is on page 25, and page 31 has a picture of AussieRabbit taking this one for a spin.

so, I’m begininng to feel like George R R Martin - taking forever to finish my project - and now I can’t even write about it?...
Thats got to change - I feel so damn compromised by this lack of progress that I’ve decided to drop any and all further work until all the Warriors are completed. Starting today I’m going to concentrate the totality of my professional time and energy on these swords.
I appreciate your opinions regarding weight reduction - it seems that to most of us this sword is a valued artifact as it is, and that should be what it is, not try to be something its not. I get it. So let it be done!
