Consider the hypothetical situation that the third world war has been raging and the world have been bombed back to the stone age and people use the weapon of all, what can only be found..World around its really hostile and the battle for you life is just being a matter of time.. And because we who had swords have must arm also our surviving friends you need to leave yourself only one so Which sword you choose and why..?
myself would take my sticlestad because its light fast well balanced and very tough and really battle ready .....

And because we who had swords have must arm also our surviving friends you need to leave yourself only one so Which sword you choose..? myself would take my sticlestad..... I would keep my Windlass Type XIV. It's not quite as fast and agile as my VA swords, but it feels the most 'battle ready'. The thing delivers one heck of a hit, and is still fast and manageable. It's also VERY tough, with a peened construction and Windlass' near legendary temper. Best of all, it's reletively light and compact, easy to carry on a back rig. Of course, two VERY close follow ups would be my Cheness Kaze (ruled out as too easy to bend because it's DH, even if it is very tough) and my VA 304S Longsword (ruled out as not 'powerful' enough, if it came to a fight where I needed to make sure a guy wasn't getting up after one hit). My best preference, though, would be to have the VA304S and a TH Katana, like a Dynasty Forge Musha, giving me a light, fast sword for speed-combat, and a heavy chopper for utility tasks (yes, a katana could be used to chop firewood in need, lol. ) and more power-based fights. The Type XIV is the best balance of those goals that I have ATM, however, so that's my current choice. It's largest drawback is the lack of blade length... a guy with a longsword would slaughter me, only having a short arming sword. A buckler sure would help, lol. -Slayer

Do we have to choose just one? In that case, I'd pick a liuyedao; a good all around one handed sword that suits me, though I know there are better swords for the job.
Now, if we don't have to pick just one, I'd carry a Valiant Signature Warder sword across my back, a liuyedao and a Windlass kindjal on one hip, a Valiant Praetorian on the other, and a Windlass Fighting Dirk or two in my books. While they're not swords, I'd also carry a shortened Windlass Greek spear (cut it to my height for mobility) and a custom kite shield that's strapped to my forearm in two places as opposed to a handhold to leave my hand free to manipulate the spear and warder. I would also edge the shield in steel similar to a viking shield, but sharpen the edges as well as have a decent sized protrusion on the round end (which would be near the wrist, for me) that would function as another blade. And since you can't really go to battle without armor, I'd take a chain tunic under steel reinforced leather armor.
(Don't mind me overmuch; I'm just wasting time before a job interview I have later today)

I would take my Windlass Fantasy Viking Sword. Fast and easy to manage. Pommel could knock the crap out of someone. Could alway retreat if possible from a more armed foe.

Considering that most ennemies would be light armoured, it would be a tough choice between my Tinker XIII or my AT1326 ( which have a slight edge considering its versality ). A katana like my PPE would be, also, a good choice.

^Do you happen to have pics of your AT1326, my good sir? I don't believe I've encountered that model before... or at least, not knowingly. Nice choices, everyone. ;D I have to ask, though... Deejay, why pick a Gladius for COMBAT? I mean, sure, it's a great utility blade, and certainly not to be underestimated in a fight, but there's no way the gladius would prevail if equally skilled fighters were armed with a gladius and a longsword/katana/jian/etc (point being- longer blade) and put to the test. The reason the Gladius is the shape and design that it is is due to the Roman fighting style and tactics, not to mention the fact that the sword wasn't even their main weapon. I don't discount Gladius for what they are (extremely potent and exception at the purposes for which they were made), but what are your thoughts behind choosing it for a all around sword that would likely have to serve as a combat, hunting, and utility blade? I think it would excel at hunting and utility... but not so much in combat, merely due to the short range. I would much prefer a longer fighting weapon and a fixed blade knife, which in all likelihood could be nearly as long as a gladius. Like I said; not trying to be a hater, lol (I'm not dumb enough to bring Ric's wrath down on me, in other words. ;D ). I'm just curious to hear more about your logic. Thanks! ;D -Slayer

I've always thought about this... always tough, but I'd have to go wit ha katana because it is what I train with. If I were to go with anything else I'd be more screwed.
At the same time, though, I'd want a shorter blade for speed and rigidity. So I'd probably go with a Cheness Ko-katana because it'd probably hold up better, as it is a shorter blade and you can get 'em TH.

My Cold Steel E-Tool as a secondary weapon: Speaking from practical experience, a sword is not want you want in a survival type situation - even if firearms are not available. It takes up too much space to accomplish exactly what a machete or e-tool can do just fine. The sword is refined to do one job - whereas other tools are built to do multiple tasks; something you will definately need. My primary option would be my bow. Don't get me wrong, I love my swords. However, in a survival scenario, for me, the shovel is a much better option. I can work wonders with it...

For starters, i wouldn't use anything with a screw on or Allen nut compression system. Every single one I have has come loose at some point more than a few times. If my life depended on a sword I wouldn't want one that I didn't trust 100%. I would have to say my Albion Steward. I trust it's construction the most.

Hi Odingaard you maybe right to that machete and shovel can do multiple tasks and maybe they are better to some situation but if so maybe gladius can do the same thing than machete and to my opinion gladii are really better in combat situation......

Odinguard, wouldn't you prefer the folding Special forces version? takes up less space and can be had cheap. I also think the E-tool is a good option, I was shown different ways to use it, besides digging a hole. You can also sharpen it on a rock if need be.
If I had to chose a sword, I'd most likely go with a short wakizashi/CRKT Hisshou, or something like that, mostly for penetration and slashing.

I agree with Odingaard. have that shovel, and i love it. Does everything from digging, to wood cutting, to log splitting, to water bottle cutting.
As for the other weapon, I'd have to go with my Fableblade's Crusader sword.... cause it's the only one i have, lol.

I can't shoot a bow for the life of me.
I would hide in a cave, and have a killer rabbit as my pet. And maybe bring my Bristol, because I wuvs it.

One sword That would be hard, seeing as I would want at least 2, my Cheness Oniyuri for shorter range or indoor, and my CS Grosse Messer or Tinker GSOW for longer range I would also want the following items that are not swords, a Poignard for a dagger, my 3/4 size double bladed wood axe for chopping wood,(I have a harness so I can wear it on my back) also would make a good weapon if I was surprised by something and I had it already in my hands instead of a sword , a hatchet, and my Kraton-handled gut-hook skinning knife for processing game or a last-ditch weapon, a scalpel or two, and if I could figure out how to carry all of the above and still have a free hand, my CS Boar Spear. Rounding out my equipment list, one of those CS tac shovels, and a rock pick/hammer ;D

Wheeewww, even though this topic comes up from time to time, I never get tired of it. First, sticking with the OP, I'd probably have to say my Hedemark. However Odin makes the same point I would have. Most combat in that scenario wouldn't warrent a sword. I would go back to the Viking age. 3 axes, a full beard, short beard and for a belt axe I would use my ranger axe. At least that way I would have a weapon to fit all environs; full beard has more reach than most modern machetes and if it were indoor I have a belt axe that is light and fast.
