Having the attention span of a fly, and knowing nothing about axes, I had the odd image of a man smacking someone with his beard.
This is how I read it: "I would go back to the Viking age. 3 axes, a full beard... full beard has more reach than most modern beards and if it were indoor I have a beard that is light and fast." I guess this is what they call a learning disability.

No one has ever fought my beard and lived to tell. All I have to do is stand with my arms crossed and it does all the work. Edit; this is what a bearded axe looks like= The part of the blade face that hangs down is called the beard, here's a short beard= shroter handle, shorter beard. And here's the Ranger axe I was talking about =

If I was allowed to use a "tool" I'd take the custom axe of my uncle. It's pretty lightweight, not too big and you can chop like everything with it.
In case of swords: I'd take his gladius. I personally don't own many enough to have a good choice.

I think I'd take this one, I know I'd hate to have the pointy end stuck in me. Scares me just looking at it sometimes.
Or maybe one of these, Which one you think?
Fallschirmjager, I have one of those Gen2 12th century's. It is a devastating cutter. Aw, hell, here's a video,

p.s. somebody bring a little 'wrench' for earncynn not 'wench'....wrench ;D Thanks Fallschirmjager !! But don´t worry. I´ll make sure that I have a little wench with me. And, if I forgot a wrench, well.... I´ll just send her to find one for me.

Hey Earncynn, I bet I could come up with the right size wrench to fit that lovely sword of yours, I got lots of English and metric, just so long as you didn't need one of those darn British Whitworths So maybe in return, you could have my back, you look like you could mow down a trainload of zombies and not get tired ;D I think I might take one or both of my Estwing Hudson Bay axes www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10051&productId=100351735&langId=-1&catalogId=10053instead of the 3/4 size double bladed wood axe, the handles are one peice solid metal with the axe head, they would be almost impossible to break, but they are still big enough to chop big trees down Avery, you could probably use those for battle axes ;D

Hmm... Its a Tough Call between the Fable Blade Fox Jian, or the Atrim LPM 1516... and running just behind those two is my Fable Blade Saber and Dirk Combo... tho if only one sword is allowed, I lean twoards the Fox Jian over the Saber without the Dirk... because its faster. However... steping away from swords I might go with my Cold Steel Warclub. The thing is Brutal, light, and I can toss it if need be as well... tho if its my only weapon I might be loath to do so. Still... its near indestructable and can dish out huge damage.

Avery: You is not Chuck Norris! Annnywaaaay...My my what a motley crew we are indeed. Okay, so I'd definitely have a multitool with me; I own like three of them, and they all come with their little bandoleer of tools. I'm sure that one of those would fit a hexnut assembly perfectly. Plus, there's saws, a mess of utility knives, pliers, fish scalers...all kinds of handy-dandy little things. I think at least one of mine would survive the nuclear holocaust or the zombie apocalypse. As far as swords, I have two different answers. For what's currently in my collection, I would keep my Bugei Bamboo. It's got a lot of niku like the old Nabokucho era blades, so it both looks impressive and could do some damage to someone else's armor. She and I work well together, and though she's heavy, I could use that to my advantage, plus she'd be less likely to be damaged or broken than my thinner blades. I've been training in iai for quite a while now and she no longer feels heavy to me, so I don't think I'd tire easily. Plus, I've worked out some scenarios for using longer blades indoors. As for blades I don't currently own, I would want a custom-made odachi or large tachi. Why? Reach. Odachi would be good because it's a long blade that can be wielded like a polearm, though a well-made one is pretty heavy. But then I would have the extension to be able to battle against someone else wielding a large sword or polearm. Same principle for the tachi, though it wouldn't be nearly as long.

^^^Swordmonger, I've always loved those Estwing Camp Axes you mentioned. Always felt like a perfect anti-zombie implement. Anyhaways, I know some of my prettier swords would be better out-and-out weapons, but in this sort of situation I'd probably reach for my Cold Steel Bowie Machete: I've had mine longer than most of my swords and I re-sharpened it myself, so I'm very comfortable cutting and hacking with it, and its size and weight makes it much more practical to carry around than a full-size sword. Similar to Odingaard's comments, it's nice to have a multitasker too. The scabbard's also easy to lash to a pack and the whole package is lightweight and mean. However...if it had to be a SWORD to go up against lightly armoured persons, I'd probably go with my Chimera Line Venetian Bastard Sword. If I had to take on some orcs, though...

Well, now that we're getting more into a survival situation as opposed to a combat situation, I'll revise my choice. For sword, I'd take the Condor Bush Cutlass: images.knifecenter.com/knifecenter/condor/images/CN35622HC.jpgI'd also carry a good e-tool, a Cold Steel Finn Bear for small cutting, a CS Assegai on a long shaft, a CS Trail Boss axe, and a good quality bow.

Ah, and if I could I'd take one of those crossbows with 715 fps. And some throwing knives. And a machete.

The first sword in the second video is my Hanwei Edward III. In a swordfight I'd probably die pretty quick unless I'm fighting a water bottle. I'm kinda slow. ;D

Ric, you look powerful, so maybe the key would be to equip you with a huge Claymore or Landsknecht sword that would enable you to sweep your opponent away I have a very strong friend named Eric who could probably swing a driveshaft from a large car about as fast as he could swing a baseball bat Imagine the devastation something would be subject to when getting clobbered by a driveshaft

Avery: You is not Chuck Norris! Apparently you didn't get the memo: Oh, and as far as the OP goes, my cold steel heavy machete (if we can count in machete's in the swords category.) If I'm held at gun point to take a sword with me, it will probably be the moat blade that I'm working on. It's peened construction, and the blade is thicker and stiffer then any other sword I own. Unfortunately, I don't have a scabbard made for it yet, so I'll have to ghetto it up and roll with some carpet for a sheath.

Yes, I am actually Chuck Norris. @monger - I have that estwing axe, tough bastard. I'd rather have the edges on the axes I showed though. That estwing would sink deep in an enemy and be harder to pull out I think. Greg, I told you not to tell anyone, gosh. Now it'll be autograph this, impregnate that, and I'll never have any down time. Edit: I forgot to add - I'm with Howler on the gunstock club, I have one and that thing is just evil! Here's a couple of demos I did with mine And here's what an axe can do to bottles.
