....My beard is my greatest weapon, the source of my strength. No one has ever fought my beard and lived to tell. All I have to do is stand with my arms crossed and it does all the work.... Avery, I did some research, and it seems that there are others with a similar talent. And some of ´em might give you a run for your money in a beard-off !!!!

Avery, that was cool seeing what you could do with that gunstock club, and the bearded axe I had seen the gunstck club in CS catalogs and website before, but had no idea how big it was Now you have inspired me to test my battleaxe and Estwing Hudson Bay axes against bottles, but after it cools down here in Oklahoma. 104 in the shade sucks

Wonder if they still have those beard-offs and where I can sign up. @monger - That gunstock was a surprise for me as well. I wasn't expecting it to live up to the hype and I'm not a cold steel die hard by any means. But when I got it and did some testing I was very happily surprised. Wood will not stand up to what that poly-composite will. I think Howler can tell you too, when you hold one it feels like it wants to hurt something. I've got a review of it somewhere, hold on, I'll find it. Edit: here's a link to review. /index.cgi?board=otherweaponreviews&action=display&thread=11986 Oh, and I wouldn't be so qiuck to add me to the list of people to be with if it all goes down; one of my trusted tactics is to throw the nearest person to me toward the enemies to give me more time. ;D

I'd go for my 110lb Warbow first off ;D
But for a blade I'd go with my VA/Atrim Kriegschwert or my (soon-to-be-purchased) CS 1796 LC Saber.

I would take my Rodell Jian, since there is no longer a need for an allen wrench, because of the modifications I made to it. 30" blade is a little long for closer space, like the cave with the killer rabbit, but I could make do.
Although my custom Hanwei/Tinker hand and a half, turned jian would be good too, but it has a 33" blade.
If you want sturdy and shorter, I would go with the Cas/Hanwei agincourt, with the peened pommel, since it has a 27" blade... but I digress... I would still go with the Rodell, since the blade is so darned tough.

I'm bringing my H/T GSOW to the party, after gobbing some locktite on the hex-nut. To partially quote Dogma: "I call it the Fecalator. So called because when you draw it, your intended target soils his or herself." I'm also sticking my Assam Kukri in my belt, in case things get a little too close. That thing's a nasty little chopper!

Sirtre, I'm surprised you wouldn't be bringing the Jin-Shi. You normally swear by the thing. I would go with my machetes, hunting knife, the shovel handle I use as a walking stick, and a decent axe. I would also have my Wushu whip chain in my back pocket.

Jin-Shi production sword great for swordplay, fencing. but if I were to encounter GSOW or such I would need something bigger. as for indoors the Jin-Shi would be better. It is light, fast and maneuverable. after the modifications on the rodell... i have a newfound love for it. the best part about the jin-shi is it needed no modifications whatsoever. I would prefer to have both... like a chinese daito, but the OP said one sword. hmmm.... if there were zombies however I would use the hanwei dadao, since they might want to just lose a few heads... heads are gonna roll i tell ya.

In case of zombies, I think a traditional Chinese pudao would be better than the dadao for its heavier blade, longer reach, and the fact that since it was meant to cut a horse's legs out from under it means it is almost certainly capable of bifurcating a few zombies. However, if it were really a zombie apocalypse, it's not something I'd wanna face alone, no matter how well armed.

Before my own personal armegeddon (divorce) it would unquestionably have been my Windlass Landsknecht War Sword. I loved that monster. Handled like a dream, cut like a witch and looked like a supermodel. Best sword I've ever owned. Windlass hit one out of the park with that one. I would buy another in a heart beat if they were still on the market. It even missed out on any of the typical Windlass cosmetic issues. And I actually used it twice in conflict situations. From my current stock, much reduced, it would have to be my MRL Classic Medieval sword.

Man of all the swords I have and handled, I would have to take the Legacy Arms / Generation 2 "Knight's Riding Sword".
Why? It is so alive in the hand (Light. Fast) and I feel that I could fight with it all day and my arm not wear out.
You did notice I said "I feel that.." not saying I could mind you. ;D

Depends on the battle scenario
Modern: Yeah need a gun, I'm outta luck there
Medieval: Firstly my euro spear, its on a thick oak shaft, quite heavy with lots of authority but quick. Then probably a single handed sword either a messer or type XV, buckler too
Apocalypse: Well a large kukri or sorta large knife come machete. Something thats got a little multi purpose, and a few utility knives.
Then again if I had to fight a dual a rapier and dagger combo.

IF I had to choose from one of my current swords (VA Castile, HT GSOW, Windlass Type XIV, Albion Agincourt, and Albion Squire) I would probably chose the Albion Squire
The Castile is great, well built, has a lot of omf behind the blade, and it cuts like a mofo, it comes with a scabbard and belt so is ready to go. But on the down side is too heavy for me and is a bastard to sharpen, I couldn’t imagine sharpening this in the field.
HT GSOW, would be tempting to have, it so well balanced and cutting with it is a joy. If I was to face an unarmed opponent it would be a tempting choice. its got a scabbard so I’m ready to walk around with it. but on the down side is its size. Its so big that if you were having to carry this round with you every day, it would just get in the way, imagine trying to scramble over collapsed buildings with that thing trailing behind you! If I knew that I was going to be in a fight then yes this may be my choice but if I’m just carrying it because there is a chance I might use it, then its to impractical
Windlass Type XIVThe would probably be my second choice, it just feel like a serious weapon, its quick but packs a punch. The fact that its short would make it easy to carry as an every day weapon. Its well made and seems fairly robust. Its got a scabbard so again its ready to carry round with you.
I love the Albion Agincourt It is by far one of my favourite swords, its light and lively, quick, and is a wicked thrusting sword. But its primarily a thrusting sword and unless I’m facing a heavily armoured opponent I want to be able to cut.
That leaves my Albion squire, its everything I want in a sword, its light, fast well balanced it cuts well, but still has the thrusting capability. The only down side for this scenario is it does not have a scabbard so you would need to devise some way of carrying it,.

Ever thought of doing a review of that Squire, Kingrat? I've always thought it was a really attractive sword. Now that I've got my albion XVIa, I'd love to know what the single-hander is like for comparison.

Clyde: I feel you on the Knightly Ridding Sword... its light, fast, and feels indestructable in hand. I too fell as tho I could use it all day long... its a SOLID sword, my favorite of all the Gen 2/Imperial Arms weapons I've handled yet... ...with my Chaos sword a close second! I just love that monster!

...hmm... apocalypse survival, no zombies and no guns... I never thought I'd do very well in the scenario outlined in Dies the Fire. I'm terrible with a bow, my only crossbow has a mere 30lb crank, and my swordsmanship skills are only good enough to slaughter unarmed peasants with. That said... I'd want a heavier crossbow, my Hanwei rapier (it just feels like steel that is designed to poke holes in other steel), and my combat knives. Also, eight companions armed with the rest of my armory... nine being a canonical fellowship and all

Late to the fray, as it were!
There seems to be two branches of this scenerio so:
If it's the bombed back into the Stone Age and have to be on the move: I'd take my Atrim 1417 with a Cold Steel subhilt, my Weber Custom knife, my Ron Wilson hawk and my Pearson Mach 1 50lb recurve.
My wife would take the AT1503, an Ontario Knife Fighter (her chose) the pearson 40lb recurve and another belt axe,
My eldest(she's petite) would take the Malatesta and a old Windlass dagger with an 8 1/2" blade and her hawk and spear.
My youngest is autistic so I probably wouldn't want to arm her too heavily maybe my AT1457.
With us all wearing backpacks to carry food, water, clothes and blankets/sleepbags and the normal redundent fire and survival tools and a smalll gardening spade.
If it were the stay in a base and go girded for war from there, then:
Multiple shields, another 10 swords, 3 shirts of mail, helms, a dz more spears, 2 more bows, a crossbow at least another dz axes of varying size, another 60 knives, several war clubs and maces
