For those manga and anime fans of the ever popular wanderer Himura Kenshin, there has been confirmation of a live action movie being filmed. www.jefusion.com/2010/07/takeru-sato-in-rorouni-kenshin-live.htmlPersonally I'm pretty excited. I love the anime and manga and I've seen a couple of the movies that the actor they chose to play Kenshin (Takeru Sato) has been in. I think he can pull off the role very well. What remains to be seen is at what point during Kenshin's long and illustrious swordsman career that they will be plopping down into for the movie. I, for one, will be following this pretty closely.

Rorouni Kenshin has to be in my top 5 favorite anime series, ever. I want to be excited about this, but I'm so terrified that they will muck it up...ahhhrrgg! I dunno. I'll go with excited for now. I'm going to check out the link right now with my wife, who is even more skeptical than I! Thank you for posting this. It IS BIG NEWS!

Interesting. I'm fairly conflicted in regards to the whole Samurai X thing, anyways...and I generally hate live actions based on cartoons. Someone'll have to let me know how it is when it comes out. Who knows. It may end up being worthwhile, but my hopes are not high...

Of course it's Japanese. While most of their acting tends to leave a bit desired, it's even worse when anybody else tries it. Also, Totally onto something there. I'm just shaky on live-action anime adaptations. As intrigued as I am by the Moyashimon live series...I'm terrified. Scarred horribly by every other Japanese movie I have ever watched, especially Gegege no Kitaro's live action movie.

Keanu Reeves Is set to play spike in cowboy bebop. I mixed emotions about it's ability as a live action film. I feel Reeves is a logical choice, but fear the rest of the cast.
As for anime I have always thought berserk was the best for its plot and character depth. You love and hate them. Each is a mental morality line you could see yourself cross in their circumstances. It's stories like those are the ones worth watching and reading.

Okay, first off, sorry to interrupt your thread, 'cause I'm an anime hater, and I really don't care about this news one way or the other (at the time being, my girlfriend is winning me over. )... HOWEVER, this ---v personnally if they would have took japanese actors for the dragonball movie i think it would have been better *yuck* ^is SOOO true. That was the WORST FREAKING MOVIE I HAVE EVER SEEN! A pity, 'cause the games were pretty okay, if not great. Anyway, just had to say so, and btw, sorry Random. ;D -Slayer

Brogdon,
I used to not like anime at all. thought it was dumb. more recently in my life (more than a decade ago -wow-) I decided that I would learn Japanese because I liked anime so much I wanted to better understand it. I firmly believe that you just haven't found YOUR anime. there are so many different types and styles there's a good chance one of them will win you and once the door is open then comes the flood.
Ruroni Kenshin (it is NOT Samurai X - I don't care what anybody says that is just not the name of the show) was a pretty good anime but I am in no way intersted in a live action remake. I agree with those above who generally dislike anime (or animation in general) to live action movies. but let's face it when you take a bad anime (I'm sorry, Dragon Ball is hideous) and portray it in live action with bad actors (there was maybe one good actor in the movie), bad writers, and who knows what else a disaster movie is unavoidable.
the animation to live movie that has me scratching my head recently is The Last Airbender. the Avatar TV show was decent, not great, but ok. When I heard it was written and directed by M. Night Shamylan (or however you spell his name) I figured it would be at least worth watching (and my kids love the TV show) so we went to se it in the theater. oh man has to be the worst movie of the year. what went wrong? how can this be? I don't know but it stunk on ice.

I'd been curious about the (real) Avatar movie. Started watching the animated series at the first airing of its first episode...and had forgotten about it by the third. Not much of an impression on me. The trailers and what not for the movie looked like the effects would at least be worth watching...but so many people just seem to hate it. Guess I'll skip it. As to anime itself...there are so many out there but not many outside of Japan get to see, or even know about the better part of it all. I've been following fansubs as series air for six or more years now, and have noticed a significant decline overall, but then again most of the stuff that was once "good" really wasn't all that great. One thing I cannot tolerate, though, is importing and localization. It's one thing to translate a language...it's entirely another to adapt a story. Take a look at 4Kids. Now, go burn them. With fire. Live-action adaptations...yeah, let's just not. Look at most comic book superhero movies. How many of them have truly compared favorably to the comic books of old? Yeah, not many, eh? Sure, most have been good on their own...but only on their own. Look again at movies based on popular novels; the LoTR trilogy, the DaVinci Code, those wretched things passed off as Harry Potter... Live action adaptations are to be avoided at all cost. Oh and I wasn't going to get into the Samurai X business since rebranding goes beyond a peeve to me (looking at you, Cardcaptors ) but I'll just echo Tom on his opinions there.

fan subs, aaaaah the ONLY way to really get high-quality anime, but as you said they are declining. even the Techno Girls (not that they were ever really fast, just really, really good) seem to have slowed down, and the great Tomodachi fan subbers have been out of the game for a LONG time now. makes me sad. I remember the day when you got a fan sub by mailing a blank VHS to them along with some small fee to cover shipping and "costs" but it had better be the right TYPE of tape. most of them had very specific brands and models for you to use and nothing else would be excepted. I learned a lot about media storage from fan subber.
sigh

Ah, the old days. So glad that was before my time. I'm really quite the late-bloomer, but at least I'm current. Got some catching up to do, though. Old school and what not.

I can't recall seeing any decent anime crossovers at all. but for some I can at least enjoy a few elements like sword fights, cool vehicles, weapons and so on. I mean even deadliest warrior is entertaining if you can look past all of the inaccuracies. how many other shows have people cutting and bashing with assorted weapons? I'm still waiting for a Dark Elf rendition either animated or live, whether it sucks or not I'd love to see it. as far as Keanu is concerned, if he didn't completely ruin the Matrix movies then I don't think he'll totally stink up a live anime any worse than it would be already. just don't think I want to see him ruin 47 Ronin right now I'm just silently protesting the Arthur remake!!!!!!! Dudley Moore is turning in his golden casket

Samurai x seems closer to reality as far as sword fights go. There is allot that is over the top, but not compared to the Kenshin series. As far as what might be physically possible.
As for live action movie success like the watchman you need a monster budget and a director that is a huge fan. I feel that is one of the better films I have seen. The story of the novel being original and something worthy of notice.
