I just posted some preliminary info on the SBG News Update Feed Thingy but this is definitely worth mentioning here... SBG is about to undergo quite a dramatic and very positive transformation... First off, the old Windlass European sword logo is about to fade into SBG history... It's been there long enough (long after the sword has been discontinued) and in collaboration with talented Artist Steven Kernan (one of the new members to join to forum) - we have created a much more classic and solid looking artistic framework for the site that will be launched before the end of the month... But that is just the beginning... Because SBG is about to go 'web 2.0'. VERY soon (by the end of the month), you'll find various points throughout the site that allow YOU, the SBG community, to contribute your comments, pictures and ideas at various points throughout the site. Like I said in the News feed - its will be something like "youtube, flickr, wikipedia - but without the swearing and nastiness as ALL posts need to be approved by me before they go live"...So if you have been wondering why I haven't been on the forums as much as usual, well - now you know! Speaking of which, as I will only be more or less checking in to make sure that the forums are running smoothly (and of course, announcing the winner of the current competition) - I would appreciate it if you guys can PM or email me if you find anything that is inappropriate or that should be brought to my attention as my time is shall we say a little 'streched' at the moment. Stand by for the biggest upgrade to SBG ever! These next few months are going to be huge... Cheers, - Paul

Hi everyone, This is the artist/illustrator Steve Kernan i.e. “Steve’r” a new member and artist for Paul’s web site. In America we get these Gum Magazines that promote every kind of firearm made. At one time I was blessed by being the illustrator and marketing manager for a U.S. based firearm manufacture and was able to watch first hand, how “some” gun writers applied their writing trade for various firearm magazines. If a manufacture gave a writer one of their firearms you can bet they will write a wonderful article. I met one writer who had three gun safes full of cool guns which he bragged that none of them cost him any money. In addition, if any gun magazine published an article that was very negative about a specific firearm they would be in jeopardy of loosing advertising money from that manufacture. That’s why I do not read gun magazines anymore. And that’s why Paul’s web site is so great. Paul does not rely on advertising money and thus he can express his opinions without fear of loosing any money. This is rare in the firearm industry or in any industry that relies on magazines to promote their products. Paul and I have been working together on designing some cool improvements to his site. And I must say I have been thrilled working with Paul. At first we encountered some e-mail computer problems but with considerable patience and kindness from Paul we were able to hammer out the problems. I have been very encouraged by Paul and from his writings and working with him I do feel he is a man that can be trusted and do believe he is one of the only "truthful" voices out there concerning what swords to buy and what swords to stay away from. I consider his opinions to be on the same level and authority as the publication titled "Consumer Reports" For those not familiar with this U.S. A. publication it is a vital reference tool for consumers who want to know the truth about vehicles, washing machines, blenders ….you name it they have tested it. I think Paul’s writings and the tests he conducts with these swords are vital to our pocket books and keep us in the know on what to buy and what not to buy. My hat goes off to Paul for acquiring these swords and having the courage to destroy some, in hopes of giving us wise counsel and informed information. Vital information that some sword manufactures do not want us to know.

What's so neat about SBG (since we're on the topic) is not how objective or accurate the reviews are (some are, some aren't IMHO) but how everyone at least makes a very concerted effort to at least TRY to, regardless of whether or not it is successful. edit: Hey Paul! What is this? I could have designed SBG stuff, too you know. I'll never forgive you for not coming to me Only kidding

Just a quick preview of what will be the new SBG Forum Header: The rest of the headers are 'themed' very similar, with the new SBG Crossed swords logo (one Euro and one Japanese) in the left corner and the 'universal' sword (which is used as SBG covers so many different types of swords, using one from a specific culture or time period is no longer an option). There will be very similar ones with different text for SBG itself, the SBG Sword Store, and the Sword Buyers Digest. All together, it has quite a classic look and feel, but let me know what you guys think. Cheers, - Paul

Hi Mate, It all looks great Paul. Your overall design looks wonderful, and though you did not use my lettering choice (to Oriental I think) the text style you finally used is perfect, welll done my friend. And the lighter background on the SBG logo helps make it all "POP".

New logo looks good. I'm anxious to see how the changes all unfold. Should be an exciting time for all of us.

Karma Paul for not resting on your laurels. It's good to know that this forum has Admin support, unlike many forums. This is going in a great direction.

I, as well think that the new forum header looks good. I haven't been here very long but if everyone else is excited about the change, then I am too. I would have liked to see a katana as the main sword on the header though (being a big fan of Japanese swords). Anyways, props for the work you've been putting in.

Are you really going to preview every post? Or is it just topics? So during my day (your night), no new posts will surface? Why? Forgive me if I am misunderstanding this... I don't see the junk here that I do on the youtube, flicker, like post this reply sixty times or your computer will die... I think that if every post has to be reviewed this forum not be what it is now...

My understanding of the post approval bit was that we, the forum members, will actually be able to contribute content, wiki-style, to the SBG main main page, and I can understand Paul's desire to have each such post personally approved by him, as they will come to represent his website as a whole, rather than each individual forum member.
As site admin, he already possesses power to delete posts, even entire threads, should he feel necessary (I've not seen him do it yet, or even threaten to, but he should be able to), and even to ban users (see previous parentheses). Thus, if he would have his wiki-esque page add new content on his approval only, I think it's perfectly within his rights. Besides, provided nobody post anything that shouldn't be posted, I'm sure we needn't worry about censorship or anything of the sort on his end.
Unless I'm missing something?
