Ok, so the I think I misunderstood. So will the forums remain as they are while the SBG wiki-style content requires Paul's approval? That sounds better if that is the case. What I objected to was needing approval before a reply appears on a thread. Thanks for clarifying, random.

sorry to be a downer but i'm not a huge fan of the proposed logo/header. i think it's a little too asian and looks "busy".

Yup, random is right - the wikistyle content on SBG will need to be approved before going live - I don't want pages on my site like 'for the best camgirlz go to blahblah DOT com'.. But the forums will remain pure, untouched and as is. ;D One thing I love about these forums (amoung many other things of course) is that I have rarely had the need to invoke the admin powers such as deleting posts, banning members etc. I can count the number of such incidents on one hand... (two bans and one locked thread from memory). Where else do you find a forum like that?

Actually... 4 bans that I know of (that xmaytallica guy, his subsequent return, some other spammer, and bdvoodoo) and like maybe 2 locked threads Still, a very clean record here I'd say.

Well, one hand and a thumb.. I am seriously considering removing the sword in the top right hand corner btw. It is a bit of a monstrosity - and probably doesn't fit the theme all that well... That way, we would have the logo in the left corner and text more centralized. Would get rid of the amalgamated hideous beasty sword and make it look less busy.

I'm wondering about the crossover of the Euro vs Japanese sword, that leaves out a few swords we do like to cover. Then again, to pull one representative from each broadened spectrum of sword type, we'd end up basically with the entire collection of mini-sword-replica letter openers from CAS/Hanwei and that could put us close to copyright problems...
The weird little (I use that term in no literal sense) sword-like...thing on the right probably wouldn't be missed, though I didn't necessarily object to it.
As to the overall look and feel of the logo, I wouldn't designate it as too particularly one way or the other, it has a bit of a touch of the Orient (to include asia and some the middle east) and a bit of western touch. Then again, maybe the font is a tad...if I said bold, people would confuse it for thick letters, but I mean it sort of presents itself a little too strongly, perhaps. It's back on the other page, so I can't see it, and am going by the few details I remember of it, but it seems like as much of a meld as one can get. Heck, if you can't please everybody, why not displease everybody? (I know, let's not. Something will turn up.)

Thanks for the clarification, I figured you were not going to look at everything , what pain that would be and you were looking to streamline stuff... Well, you can say you let them fish around before the ban, it wasn't impulsive ( I have seen a few of these, if you don't agree with everything the owner says he axes you), but it did happen when I was absent, I always enjoy fireworks... ;D BTW, check the punctuation in that new banner, the .com is messed up (I think...)...

Your right about the punctuation - I missed that! (too much editing). It is definitely one of those things - "if you try to please everybody, no-one is happy" But I need to convey a general sense of 'swords of all eras, cultures, etc' without going overboard (i.e. logo like a pin cushion) or too far towards one end... Naturally, the best solution would be - the header would display whichever sword you personally liked - but alas, the mind reading machine is back at the lab being tweaked, so in the end, I think perhaps logo left hand and text is the best way to go. Any other ideas are welcome as we are not set in stone yet..!

Lol. (Said in a John Cleese voice) 'Thank you very much but I've passed through that stage'
I've decided that simple is best. Reckon I've got a nice layout that will work - basically the same colors with the logo in the left corner, and the old style 'Sword Buyers Guide' text.
Not distracting, nice and clear - and anyway - it's the 'content' that is important - and as you'll all soon see, there will be some pretty cool interactive bits and pieces going on SBG.
The new look and feel will go up site wide in around 24-48 hours!

I though some more about the punctuation which is correct technically but it just feels uncomfortable... I was having a sloooow Monday.

I agree that the Windlass Medieval sword has to go. I look forward to seeing some original artwork. Just don't delete any old posts. They are some good references sources.

Well, in case you haven't noticed... ...Yup, the new Look and Feel of SBG has just occured site wide. I think its simple, but looks pretty cool without causing any distractions - after all - it is the sites CONTENT that matters...! Will be adding some wiki style invites to the main site shortly. But for now, I return you to your regular programming. Thanks guys, - Paul

Just to say, you might want to put somesort of background behind the text on the main pages. Leaving it white just looks odd to me. Maybe a sand motif, or roman marble. But good work on the rest!!

Yeah, I know what you mean... There were some technical difficulties to implement this at first, but I've just added a matching tone. Only problem now is, a lot of areas that had white backgrounds and blended in before now stand out like a sore thumb... The more I look at it, the more it bugs me - and some of them are simply too hard to change.. Do you think it is an issue...? I don't like the patchiness of it - but maybe I am being too critical (or maybe not) Let me know what you guys think. Cheers, - Paul

Site looks good it retains a simplicity that makes for friendly navigation...yjrtr are all too many sites think flash and all that make for a great site.. to me it makes for slow navigation and a waste of my time
