Phillip - I looked but could not find the blanks. So where did you find them?
Brotherbanzai, thanks for the link - now I have to find a used kiln...

I think its good for Albion to re-coup some costs, after all they are a small business who we would all like to see keep going (cause gods know its gonna be years till I get to buy one !!!!)

I really don't think it's about re-couping costs tho. I've heard various others mention that they had spent more than $25 on a blank metal slab. So $25 for a chunk of metal, the cnc work, labor involved in taking pictures and shipping, all adds up to a "charitable donation" to the sword enthusiast community. Basically, the $25 is probably only for the man hours involved in getting these swords to us, and if they don't sell on the moat, they'll probably just end up in the trash bin.

Hmm albion blade with fable blade fittings, that could be a match made in heaven. They have some lovely blade shapes, especially that jody samson one.

I noticed that the heat treating price is $50 above the milled blande, I wonder if they will heat treat the moat blades for the same price once we clean them up?

That would be rather awesome Whalozan, but something tells me that won't happen. If I wasn't so poor I'd jump on that Riding sword like... something that jumps onto something else.

Hey Phillip, That's pretty sweet. I was going to suggest to them that they start offering blanks like that but figured they wouldn't want to bother. That's pretty cool of them, they're taking care of what I would consider the most tedious part of making a sword.
Hey Whalozan, I doubt they'll be able to do that since even they don't know the provenance of some of the blades they sold. I got a few that weren't marked but ended up being mild steel and so weren't hardenable. Some of the ones that were already ground sabered during the heat treatment as well. They'll be able to control the ones they have now and if it turns out bad, they can just do another and send you that one, not so with the moat sale blades.

some of those blades look very tempting! ahh but I already have my moat sale blades, still they are a nice new option, on the other side of the sword I got my pommels from the moat today! 1 brazil nut and 3 round all really nice

Does anybody want Hanwei Tinker Viking fittings for their new type x bare blade from moat? I'll give it quite cheap.

I am thinking that shipping from Croatia to the USA may be a bit high

I sent fittings to Sweden for about $20. Similar for UK. I think for US it would also be between 20 and 30.

Very VERY much like the addition of bare blades by Albion!! I already was ecstatic that the Hanwei Tinker bare (replacement) blades became an option, and this is even better, as I wanted a Type XVIII single-handed as a "boar hunter" sword. I was eying the Gen2 Henry V, but I think I'd rather go with a no-nonsense hilt of my own on an Albion blade. This is positively wonderful for DIYers!

upon closer inspection (with a magnifieng glass) of the four blades I received from the moat, two of them are Del Tin, both type XI, one with a large Albion mark on one side and a very very small Del Tin on the other, still they are nice blades!

Hey Brotherbanzai, You were correct about Albion doing the heat treating. Here is the direct quote from Mike "We are only doing this on new blades. Some of the moat blades we don't even know what steel it is." This will just get me moving on how to do heat treating and to get the creative juices flowing on how to put together as system that will work for me. Now where can I find a used kiln.... and to think I just recycled the trans fluid from my truck, such a waste of resources...

With those new blade blanks, they say heat-treating but nothing of tempering them... I think. Wouldn't that leave the blade a bit on the brittle side? I'm not at all familiar with how tempering works, but if they're just heat-treated but not tempered... would it be easy for some of y'all to DIY? Iono, didn't see anyone else bring that up, so w/e.
