I mean, seriously, first member who has four of these blades they're disappointed with but want to make an offer to me I'll accept (and I'm not THAT hard to please here), PM me.
I'll send you a hundred bucks, you send them to me, and I'll no doubt try some crazy customization experiment(s) I can eventually post pics of. If they're cool you can ooh and ahh, if they're failures we'll all get a laugh; that's why there's no such thing as a "failed" experiment. Everybody'll end up happy!

Am I the only one seeing the weird irony about some of the complaints? I mean, thirty bucks for Pete's sake. Even a way-off, non-heat-treated blade is probably worth thirty bucks. I've paid that for a machete or scythe blade or whatnot that I had an idea to try but wasn't sure it'd work. I've paid that for a SLO or wallhanger just to see if it can be cut down and actually made into a useful weapon. If nothing else you can cut part of these down and turn it into a spearhead or knife. Or try to heat treat it to see if you can pull it off--even if you've never done it before. Again, if it fails, shrug and cut it down. My God, if nothing else, raw stock to run an experiment and have fun at these prices? Thank God the Mythbusters guys don't balk at such costs or there'd never have been a show. And sure, these are pieces that didn't pass QC at Albion--that's why they're THIRTY BUCKS! I have to agree, at 4 blades for $100 if you got one good one the other 3 were free, and could at least be made into decorative objects,

It's not that I'm "upset" so to say over what I got. And after working out a wonderful trade with another member, I'm currently tickled pink.
But my biggest beef is the wording behind the sale. "...Most are tempered..."
It probably wasn't done intentionally, but the description of the Moat sale led buyers to think that more then 50% of the blades shown had a temper. If they would have simply said "some are tempered, some are not..." and then left the rest to "...we can not answer specific questions..." I would have been fine. But it was more the false hope that was unintentionally given to the buyers only to be crushed once the blades arrived.
That being said, I am well aware that "most" of the blades could have been tempered and that someone with an outstanding eye or incredible luck, who didn't belong to the SBG group, might have scooped them all up. But generally it looks like maybe 25-40% of the blades received had a temper, and you really couldn't call that "most."

I agree albion dropped the ball, they should have spent a little more time describing exactly what they were selling, and I dont think any one would have minded paying a little more, even $50 a blade with better pictures for the H/T ones,

Got my package from the moat yesterday, from the later lot still pictured on the site. 7 out of 9 blades were H/T so I was happy with that. Now to organise the bits! Luckily I will have some extra time coming up soon to mess around with them.
Cheers,
Rob

You lucky devil!
I don't suppose you have a camera so we can see your collection aye? Or I suppose the reference numbers would work since the pics are still up on the Albion site.

enkidu - nope
caferacer, thats awesome, didn't stop to think of that at all. No I'm not Borg, and unfortunately I don't look that good in spandex either (if you have never seen the series I dont think I can explain...)
CRISJ - YES YOU GOT ONE OF THEM!!! 9628 so congratulations - I'll send you a PM.
I am happy to award another $50 discount to whoever can get the last one.
but whalozan, you didnt get it either. The simple way I was told is the untempered ones will bend fairly easily against your knee and stay bent. Tempered ones will flex and return to straight. Certainlty true for the ones I got. Show us what you got too!
So if you are still interested, keep at it for the last one...

Looks like I have 1 of 4 which is tempered. So I have 3 to practice cleaning and sanding before working the tempered one. I guess I will be looking for help tempering or maybe building a furance. I seem to remember a design rehabing some old clay furnacing into a deep one for swords...aaaah food for thought. Anyone know some one in northern california who does heat treating?
