Those fine fellows quoted me it would be $150 just to post one <2lb blade to Australia (!!!! ). Thats a crock and it crippled my ability to nab some of these rippers. However thanks to my mate BB I've been hooked up with something to play with (thanks buddy!). I can make most of these blades anyway, except for the ones with really wide fullers, so I was able to score a viking blade with a really wide fuler to mess about with. So thats exciting. I will have to do something special with it, in my beloved viking style... Maz I love that guard. I really wanted to get one of those too, but he quoted me $50 to post that little guard. So that sucks... I like the pitted look a lot. You could do worse than to just leave it looking like that.

So far the moat has claimed $360 of my hard earned money. Well spent too I think. Hey Maz... don't get too caught up in Moat blade refinishing... you got some other work to do!

Yesh, Iono why I got the one I did. Maybe I liked the shape or something. Like I said before, it seems to be one of those conan fathers swords, with the engraving. It's like a type X with a wider ricasso at the base of the blade. What's interesting though is that I found what seems to be a J.S. in cursive on the tang. Real small, and the J (if it is one lol) is sort of bitten into or something. Thought it was just a giant pitting, until I cleaned off the rust lol. My younger brother also thinks it's a J. Hahahah, asked him because my cursive is absolutely dead. Anyways, I can't explain it too well. Anybody else have that? ... I can only think of one J.S. when it comes to swords. Maybe all or most of the Conan and Lady V's are marked with that? That'd be cool. It'd be like, modern day sword-making history or something.
Ooooh! Maybe we should make a super albion moat customization-y thing thread! That would be suh-weeeeet!
... I would have spent more money on the moat if I had any.... Oh well. I have one sword already!

@ Shadowhowler -Haha yeah, Waiting for a chape to come in for one project, and wood for one of yours. The moat stuff is going to gather a little more rust before it's reborn.

If you can get to a computer and vigorously hit the refresh button around that time, I'm sure that The Moat has plenty more to offer.

Same goes man i was all hooked upi with a good fathers sword blade the guy i know there set aside for me but when i called and asked for a post quote it was gonna be about $165/175 just for the postage of one blade. My hopes and dreams just flushed down the dunny.

Isn't there any freight companies that can do it cheaper?
I've got a hub adress in NY, and a shipping company receives my mail and ships it via air for a good price. Guess it will cost me $60 to have a sword shipped to me from the US, import fees paid. That's about half the price of what I would pay if shipped in regular mail.

Hey all,
If any of my Aussie brothers want to ship it to me, and then have me send it on - I'm all for it. You can always put some shipping money direct into my account there, or paypal etc. Others from UK or Norway buyers, I can do it too will have to be paypal, but I send full swords for approx $40-50 USD with insurance using postal depending on weight.
I would guess a blade would be at most $20-25 USD to Australia with USPS 14 day delivery. If I could ship a whole batch together even cheaper per item.
As I sell swords from USA and Australia I am used to doing it. I also send all sorts of stuff back for friends (just packing a bass guitar for someone today) and ebay stuff all the time.
If anyone does want to do this, just drop me an email / and put your name C/o Rob Stanford on the package so I know who it's for! My email is stromloswords@sbcglobal.net
Address is: Stromlo Swords 6609 Shiner St AUSTIN, TEXAS 78729
If you want any other (non-Moat) swords sent over let me know also, I have dealer accounts with most places, so I could get a V/A Malatesta, a CAS EMSHS and some MOAT gear all together for you for some good prices (i.e I will match KOA price usually).
Cheers,
Rob

That was quite an offer, Rob. It will solve the problem for many here.

I have suffered many times from this when I was living in Australia.
Seemed only fair to offer, I'll probably be back in Oz in a year or two looking for someone else to help me out, especially after getting used to delivery in 1-2 days!
I would prefer to keep it to sword/knife/gun type stuff, no WMD please, fortunately you would have to try very hard to find something illegal to ship to me in Texas!
But I'll remind anyone if they seem to be getting me to post flick knives to Australia that I know the rules very well and you need permits etc before I send.
Other than that, buy something and get it shipped to me, let me know where to send it and if I need to wait for more stuff to go with, pay me postage - and done.

Well there ya go, Rob is nice enough to solve the shipping problems for those outside the US Very kind of you to offer. But anyway Nial, you're looking at a $40 blade for a $3000 sword and the $165 shipping has dashed your dreams? Jeez, you could have had it sent to me and I would have shipped it to you and it probably would have only been about half that. Still, even $205-$215 for that blade seems pretty cheap.

Indeed, thats why even with shiping and customs here in Canada i will have to pay way more than 40$, but in the end it will be worthwile ! I was lucky enough to get both father and Atlantean ( altough this one miss the ''ears '' at the end of the ricasso ) and i'll surely wont regret it. I'm anxious to get my hands on them to see what i really got.

Well, $215 for a $3000 dollar blade might seem swell and all IF you luck up and get a good one. Maybe I got the only 3 blades that didn't have a temper, but after comparing the 1 that was tempered, to the 3 others, I've started to pick out some visual hints as to which has a temper.
From what I've gathered, if the blade is shiney with big thick quarter sized rust spots, chances are that it's not tempered. Actually, ALL of my untempered ones were shiney, so that might be a visual hint if any more swords are up for sale.
But the one blade that did get the heat treat and tempered was a dull almost graphite looking blade. It had rust, yeah, but it was faded into the natural age of the blade. If anyone else has anything further to offer as to how to tell the blades temperment by looking at it, feel free to add.

But the point you are missing is that it isn't in fact a blade that is worth $3000 dollars, if it were they would've used them on swords and it begs the question why do they have so many rusted blades around? Had they just offered the blades before they rusted they could've sold them for more. If you are happy with what you got then that is great but a $30 dollar blade is a $30 blade even if it is an albion.

Kind of going along with BW's point here, of the 2 that have showed up so far, one has an off center tang and a the other has a double fuller which goes off track right near the tip. As Brendan said, these are flunks. My second blade that showed up also isn't heat treated and hasn't had an edge ground into it yet. For $30 they are great project blades, but I wouldn't shell out much more, especially not knowing what the defects are gonna be, or whether the blade got heat treated. I paid $15-20 each for shipping depending on the blade. In their drive to liquidate this stuff, they aren't dicking with shipping options, and they aren't taking questions. I don't blame them really, the stuff is flying out the door and the phone is ringing off the hook. Still sucks to be across the pond for this

Yeah Bloodwraith i have a superb cutting blade Brenno made but being that that one sword is responsible for my love of swords i really wanted to get one even if i couldn't refurbish to fit my bronzes it would have still made a nice piece for a collector like me a Conan fanatic. I thought that was a damn poor show on their(Albions) part i mean how can it cost that to ship one blade? They also had Atlanteans and Valaria's blades but i wasn't paying that semprini. Better i buy a broad blank stock here and get Brenno to cut it. Our counries deff get the dirty end of the dunny stick. And $50 to send a gaurd to Brenno, that is sad.
