Dang you too, Greg! Yup, that's the berserker. Offer of $100 still stands, perhaps I'll pay even more depending on the level of completion. They also have the guard and maybe half of the pommel too.

Yeah, I was looking at the guard wondering if I could do the same with their $10 blanks and a belt sander. I didn't see the pommel, but perhaps I wasn't looking for half of it I'll definitely know once I get the blades which ones I'll fall in love with and which ones I'd be willing to part with. And if I DO decide to part with the Beserker, I'd only ask the $30 bucks + shipping outta ya. After all, the spirit of the moat sale wasn't driven by money, but by giving the sword wielding community to get their hands on some albions, when they otherwise couldn't. Enkidu: Well, the way I plan on testing mine is the "Ye Ol' Knee Test of Temperment" or Yoktt (Ironicly that is the old norse word for edge) ((... not really, but it would be funny if it was)) First I'll start off with some 10 degree bends and check the true, then move up the angle until I'm satisfied. I'm sure there is some more scientific way to do it without resorting to the Rockwell Hardness Test ( www.knife-expert.com/rockw.txt ) and from what little understanding I have, there is a way to tell by the different colors of the metal as you polish out the edge. But I'm not totally confident that I would know what to look for.

Hey enkidu, you could try testing it with a file to see if it skates. Don't use a new file though as they can bite on a hardened blade. I would just use Greg's yoktt. Oh come on now you guys Nial, you already have a Fathers sword with a nice blade by Brendan, and Brendan, you have a set of hilt parts and can make your own blade Leave something for the guys out there with neither

Surprised no one has bought the sabre blade that looks like the vivamus, would buy it myself if I knew how. Then again it has a cracked spine and no details of the extent of the damage, poor show on albions part.

Well, I think it's the placement of the cracked spine. Just about everyone here would want to turn it into a cutter, and with the crack (assuming the arrow is pointing to where the crack is) so close to the guard, it would be hard to shorten it down to a battle worthy sword.
Then again, with enough stock removal, it might present a decent saber/dagger/thing. I was one phone call to late to get the non-cracked version. It was second on my list, but the guy that called before me had scooped it up.

Just how many blades did you get Greg? I went for the 4 swords discount (clever marketing tactics... touche Albion) And I figured that if I got 4, chances are good that there is at least 1 blade that I can resurrect. But from taking all the other information in on the sale, I'm starting to think that I'd be the odd ball out if any of my blades couldn't be made whole again. I just can't decide if I should buy the pommels and guards from Albion, or try to fabricate some myself. As far as the guards are concerned, I took a file to some rebar today and found that when you polish it up, it's actually very shiny underneath. I might be able to get away with stock removal for the longsword guards (with the exception of heating up the center to flatten it out and put a blade sized hole in it. Then again, I could scoop up their $10 guards and pommels and do some creative grinding. I won't make a decision until I have the blades in hand. And after I have the blades in hand, if there is one I just don't like, I'll offer it up to SBG for $30 +shipping. (aside from the beserker, she's already spoken for)

Whoa, haven't been on in awhile. Another update from Albion 'bout an hour ago. New items in the moat. Looks like I'm gonna have to find myself a job, eh?

Oh, and I got a nice little surprise when I cleaned off most of the rust off of the blank I had ordered from the first wave of blanks. The fuller has the same engravings as the father sword from the Conan series. And there's even an edge on the blade, albeit with secondary bevel. 'Twas bent though. Bent it back to relatively straight on my knee, 'cause it was a pain in the neck to clean it up while it was bent. Probably going to get it heat treated and tempered eventually, just to be safe. Not quite satisfied with my job on the blade though, and running a bit too low on money, so it'll most likely be awhile before then.

Well, talk about a suprise for me today. My first batch showed up on my door an d the Moat had filled back up! OH! And I almost forgot to mention. I did get the "Lady V" blank. Here she on Ablions sight: www.albion-swords.com/swords/albion/late/sword-lady-vivamus.htmGonna be fun resurrecting her. Didn't get the Beserker like I thought tho. Gonna have to keep an eye out tomorrow. Edit: Well curses, I just did the "yoktt" test and the preliminary result was that 3 of the blades are not tempered. Ah well, gonna look around to see if there is a tempering service somewhere.

Hey, Greg. I don't know where you live, but I was thinking that I'd ask BKS in Maryland if they'd be willing to heat-treat and temper my blade. I live close enough to Maryland that I'd assume shipping wouldn't take long at all (if I ever do, it better not. I live less than half a state away, for crying out loud). Haven't contacted them to find out how much it'd cost, or if they'll even do it. Probably will be awhile until I do, as I have no clue when I'll be satisfied with my blank and whatnot.
Shame that 3 of your blades weren't tempered. Pretty dang cool how you got a Lady Vivamus blank though!

Thanks for the pointer to BKS, I'll shoot them an email and see what they have to say.

Cool. By the way, another wave in the moat 'round 20 minutes ago. Barely looked over it, but seems there's nothing of interest, in my opinion. Y'all could think differently.

So far the moat has claimed $360 of my hard earned money. Well spent too I think. 10 minutes of sanding on this one. Needs more and the tang is off center. I will either build the handle off center to compensate or trim the tang. Either way.. sweet. No sanding on this one yet, just a couple little rust spots, otherwise finished. I have 2 pommels, another guard, and 5 more blades coming. I'll follow Greg's lead and offer any I decide not to use at cost for those who missed out. I can see some interesting trading going on here in the future too.
