I forgot my favourite movie, any of the fight scenes from Brotherhood of the Wolf, if you have not seen this movie it is really amazing and the fighting is very straightforward with little of the flash you see in hollywood, also the whole mood of the movie is so dark and gritty. I absolutely LOVE this movie... one of my top 10. However... if you consider the fighting from The Brotherhood of the Wolf to be 'Strightforward' and 'with little flash' I think you have been smoking something pretty strong my brother. The combat in Brotherhood of the wolf is highly stylized... and completely over the top and SUPER flashy. Al sorts of pointless blade twirling and crazy jump kicks and the like... not to mention where the hell did a Native American learn all of those Kung Fu Skills Marc Dacascos was showing off in the film... or his French 'Brother' as well. I think you and I have very different ideas about what would be considered stright forward vs flashy when it comes to martial arts. ;D That said, I loved the movie... it was so highly stylized and artisticly directed and shot... it was a beautiful piece of film. I just would not call any of the fighting in there anything close to 'Strightforward'.

Love Brotherhood of the Wolf, just bought a copy. Philip Kwok was quite pleasantly surprised by Mark Dascassos.

Sorry, haven't seen Equilibrium.
I got the 2 disk DVD of BOTW and Philip Kwok did the fight chor. It's a funny set of interviews in the "Making Of" section because it's a french film so most people speak french, Dascassos and the cinematographer speak english and Kwok speaks cantonese, all sutitled at first. Kwok said he saw the director's previous film and said he thought Dascassos had fought before and the was pleased at how much he could do and how quickly he picked up; the other 2 guys had no real expirience.

Marc Dascassos used to fight in varrious Kung Fu and Karate tournaments... and his father is a martial arts instructor. Dascassos has been doing martial arts, mainly Kung Fu, ever since he was a little kid... I don't think he required any training for the film.

Here is every good part of Equalibrium rolled into one 5 min video; so you don't have to watch the whole film : As for me, I liked it pretty well, but I can see why people don't like it. It had Boromir and Batman in it. It was just another one of those Orwell 1984 dystopian kinda flicks.

Argh... Actually Odingaard, for me that was every BAD part of the movie in 5 minutes. I actually like the story/premise of the movie.. it was the over the top stupid action that killed it for me.

Marc did most of his own stunts, the big, spiked log that swings over his head was a big, spiked log and it swung over his head. No styrofoam or CGI.

Sorry, but that action is even worse than the poor kenseiLS stuff everybody hates so much. Who was the criminal that choreographed that horrible action?

LOVED Equilibrium...the over the top action was good for me. If all movies did were depict realistic swordfights it would get boring and over rather quickly...especially for the unwashed masses who know nothing about the art.
Sure, it'd be nice if there were the occasional flick that made the attempt but it probably wouldn't make a lot of money and be classified as an action flop. At least, that's how I see it.

Go check the General Sword Training section for the discussions about his crud, and here's the link to his You Tube channel: www.youtube.com/user/KenseiSL

It would have to be the final sword fight from Rob Roy. Watching Archibald Cunningham get cleaved in half by a scottish claymore was so cool.
