I have a Sallet Helm (the one in my avatar) from GDFB, its really well done and heavy duty. I also have a Gambeson and it seems quite good quality. I've never seen one of their axes but Avery might know something about them. So why would you put a wood core in the pipe? So you can use a thinner walled pipe to keep the weight down? You might find a D guard on the end of the shaft limits what you can do with it, your rear hand wont slide around on the shaft as much as your front hand but it is nice to be able to move that hand around, like if you want further range. Watch these guys' hands, mostly held a 1/4 and 3/4 but around 1:17 (i think) the one guy slides his hands down to get range. Also if you intend to spar with it, if someone hooks your blade with theirs and binds and winds you may find your hand trapped. A good set of gauntlets would be better I think. *EDIT*Never mind, I see now you said 80 CM not inches. Yeah I guess a D guard would work on a shorter axe. Keep the weight down and also use the wood's shock absorption.Maybe ever rattan would do a god job.I did this to make a mace once and it worked out ok.It was not of course a perfect fit but close and I put some (agh...what do you call liquid rubber...anyways that) on the inner surface to close the tiny tiny distance. Athough the best thing would be an hilt shaped shaft instead of a round one so I can line it with the edge and increase accuracy. But fitting that to the round holes of the halbert head will be tricky.

Greetings dear sirs. This is my first post so please do beer with me!Cheers! Now on to the question.I just bought the so called "deluxe king leonidas sword" also known as "spartan fantasy battlescarred super testosterone semprini blade"or something like that.Kult of Athena (I think they're cool) labels this as battle ready and describes it as handforged high carbon steel. Now it did sound a bit fishy in the begining, plus it was dirt cheap, but I told my self that this could easily be the price and effort you pay for 2 machetes so it wouldn't be to unreal for this sword to cost so little since it's as unpolished and simple as a machete.Additionaly, this is after all the cult of athena, what could go wrong?I just bought a cast (iron?) blade for battle ready that's what! The bubbly surface and small cyrcles from the cast are a dead giveaway. If somebody has some information about making process, company, RC or any kind of testing.Any points about the blade whatsoever please please tell me about it. The blade is also like 50% percent bigger and certainly not one-handed so it has nothing to do with the movie, but I don't really care about that.In fact I rather enjoyed the surprise of getting an orc falcion-cleaver looking thing rather than the 300 sword.But...WHAT GOOD IS IT IF IT'S CAST METAL!!!Please tell me I am wrong and this thing is really what I bought it for...I can't look at it with a straight eye anymore and sex with it has never been the same since I noticed...I...I am terribly sorry I souldn't have said that.Anyways,I am seriously interested for any info. Yes, I got one of these, I don't like it, it's too heavy for one hand, but not enough grip room for 2 hands, I am going to take it to a pawn shop and get rid of it I have an Onyuri, and I am very happy with it

I don't do anything with a sword until I have sharpened it. I have swords I like better than it that are still waiting to be sharpened, like my Swords of Drizzt, which although rated as battle-ready, came dull as a post, with no edge whatsoever. It will take hours of work to put an edge on them I will probably sharpen the 300 sword, but just so maybe I can get a few more $ for it. The average person around here has never seen a good edge on any blade, and when they actually get to handle (while being told Do Not run their fingers down the edge) a sharp knife or sword, are quite surprised and impressed, which means I have a better chance of at least getting my money back with shipping on a blade I wished I had not spent money on This is one of the reasons why it is good to have a great Brick and Mortar shop nearby, so you can handle them before you buy them

I think you will find windlass swords are very soft and you can drawfile an edge on to them in 20 minutes. All windlass come dull BTW. Use a millfile for your drawfiling. Watch the edge thickness as you file cos windless really swell in and out down the length so some areas will need less filing than others.

Thank heaven I have a belt sander and other power tools. Drawfiling those Drizzt swords would take days, considering that I want a 30 degree angle on the edge They could use a little lightening up, maybe they will be an ounce or two lighter when I am finished

you can get a falcata from windlass or depeeka, they're both hand forged and really good at what they do. WTF?! I'l make you one for $700 It would be worth EVERY DIME. And I don't even have a FB yet...I just know enough folks who do, to justify that price. I can't complain...there is truth in the adage- you get what you pay for. Unless you get it at a steal which we all know is not the norm.
