Dam I just looked at the sword you a complaining about, you paid $29.95 for it.Dam what did you expect out of it,youd be better off with a wooden sword.I have no problem paying over $1000.00 for a Jody Samson or Michael Rader sword to me they are pieces of art that will last for many many years. You also need to realize a lot of us here dont just see a sword as something to go out and pound against a rock or tree.A lot of us here see swords as pieces of art to be used and looked at like a fine painting or sculpture. The makers around here arent just people who make swords but fine craftsmen who make incredable not just weapons but art and who have to be very creative to be able to do it A suggestion maybe buy Tinkers first book it is full of info and a great read about what it takes to make a blade. tinkerswords.com/purchasesc.html

Well, I never really expected real performance out of something that costs 30$!!The whole thing's a joke right? At best I expected a cold steel machete level performance(I am very very happy with such a performance) so it was worth a shot for this kind of expectation,no? Plus I intended to kick the crap out of it in a week.So this whole thread ain't serious in the first place.I just wouldn't really expect such a thing as a cast metal blade by a respectable seller such as kult of athena could be labeled and sold as battle ready!!That's all there is to it!I just wondered if anybody out there did the same jackass stunt purchase I did and had the ignorance to try it out...because to be honest I'd really be interested to see what a cast metal blade can take. But then again I'm thinking of selling it to some zit covered fanboy and get my money back. Listen,I understand your possition about the artistic side of swordmaking, but my craft (not blades) is already arty so that field is covered for me. What I am looking for from weapons is the same thing I was looking for when I joined the local mma club and got my ass kicked for a month.I am looking for a place to spit my violence out.I don't need a weapon if I don't know I can bang the semprini out of it without thinking it cost me big.I mean sometimes I a friggin' stick is enough for me. Saving for a blade?Who's got that kind of patience!Of course I would also like really good artfull weapons that I could treasure (only if I know they can also take the heat)but i save that kind of thing for later when I am a filthy ritch man.

I just wouldn't really expect such a thing as a cast metal blade by a respectable seller such as kult of athena could be labeled and sold as battle ready!!That's all there is to it Well, KoA list the swords "Battle ready" by how the manufacturer lists them. And some companies are a little loose with the whole "battle ready" tag. take Depeeka for instance. A few decent looking blades, but I'd never buy one. Even though they say battle ready, they're not battle ready enough for me, and I honestly think they're crap. Now, as far as what you intend to do with your swords, hacking and beating and such, thats your business. But you're doing something swords aren't designed to do. And in doing so the end result will always be the same. But hey, like I said, it's your money and your property to with what you wish.

you sure the "bubbly circles" ,as you put it, aren't just from that fake patina thats on it? Have you even tested the blade? Does it have any flex, does it spring back true...? Concerning you view on swords....i personally dont care what you want 'em for, but I don't think your mentality is shared by very many members here...at least none that stick around very long. You may find yourself at odds with most everybody if you think this way. Saving for a blade?Who's got that kind of patience! Most of us do have the patience and ambition to aquire better quality blades. As time goes by and your collection grows you'll be able to choose which blades you want to semprini kick by hacking trees and cement and army tanks. Welcome aboard, but it may be a lonely experience if your just into trashing swords. And I'll agree with Buliwyf, at $30, what did you expect?

Yanniskusogaki, from what you say you use your swords for, I'd recommend checking out Darksword Armory, or Gen2/Legacy Arms. DSA makes swords that are super-tough, and almost impossible to tear up, so if you want something you can bash the hell out of and have it come back for more, they're probably for you. They're also not half-bad looking either. Kult of Athena has a few on sale right now for under $200, check em out. As for the price of a good sword, well, yeah, this is kind of an expensive hobby, and that's all there is to it. Hope you can find what you're looking for!

If you have issues and need to 'express' your violence best you do stay with the stick. Swords should never be handled while in anger. One member from one of the forums got a blade through the chest as a consequence of 'angry cutting'. The blade broke, during a frustrated/ angry hack, as do yours. I am not sure if he survived. In this case the victim was actually standing by instructing, but it makes no difference. Swords and anger don't mix. Like swords and alcohol/drugs. There are other ways it can 'cost you big' than fiscally.

Oh yes,I've seen the tests. Those are some tought pieces! You see this? This is what I would love to do all day if I could with a sword. Those guys are so lucky, I am jealous! The toughest piece I ever held was a machaira shaped relatively thick (0,5cm) machete made by my towns tool smith, may he rest in peace. Well I doubt the arm of an unathletic 15 year old could do it any serious harm, but I remember trying soooo intensively to break it (and I mean crazy semprini... rocks and pipes kind of crazy,2 X the guy in the video ) that by nightfall I couldn't feel my entire existence. And when I asked my grandfather how much he payed for it he said 20.000 drachmes, that's old greek money but if you had to put it in today prices it would probably be around 50-60$. Not polished, pretty or shinny, but that's how I like it. I guess, the point I am trying to make is you can find what I am searching for in the price range I am searching for it just fine. Caution, that does not mean I wouldn't like "piece of art" type of swords.

The Cold Steel machetes are dirt cheap and are very durable. If you just want to beat up stuff, why not use a CS machete? They even have one (which is discontinued, but still up for sale in some places) that looks very similar to the 300 swords. DSA and Gen2 probably make the toughest swords (because they have the most metal on the blades) but if you abuse them like Paul and other testers have done on a regular basis, you will probably break it eventually. A baseball bat would be another option for venting anger, since cutting whilst mad is unsafe. Just pretend that it is a club.

Yes, I'm sure.I've seen my share of casting and this is it.But the real giveaway is the circles/holes from the cast. I decided I wouldn't do any testing after all since I'm probably going to sell it.I don't need wallhangers. Well it's not like joining the forum was the biggest thing ever.I join a new forum for something that interests me every week.Frankly I just joined to talk blades and see how other weapon fans approach their hobby so it has been quite educational even if this is my third day. It's not like this is a relatioship or anything, I won't get depressed if either you or I lost interest,I got loads of that outside the net. Like I said before I expected nothing out of 30$ but it was worth a shenanigan shot.Read my previous post if you're interested why I think 30-100$ is still valid money for my kind of thing. Thanks for having me chief!

There are other ways it can 'cost you big' than fiscally. Yup! And I once knew this guy hit by a truck while minding his own biz. I wasn't born yesterday man...the farm's yard is vast and I never swing anything with anyone standing anywhere in it...except chickens. They can take a full blow to the head for all I care! They'll be in my belly before night falls when it happens. And when it comes to my safety, not that anybody should care( not in a world were people keep loaded guns on them or in their houses anyway) I'm always suited up bigtime. Anger/violence don't mix with anything if you're thick in the head,as a matter of fact nothing does.Who in holly hell swings a heavy sharp object with someone standing anywere closer than 10m.

Ha! Good one Mythos!!! I think he just needs a Boken and a six,by,six to beat up on....SanMarc. Got 3, one is cold steel's plastic one, reaaally something when it comes to letting out your "violent jack",I take all of my banging to it now, the wooden ones I just swing. But you see...the thing is,there's nothing like that sound and the effort you put in to banging a real one.OK let me put it this way:If you practiced boxing would you enjoy the shadow boxing exercice more or working the bag?...Obviously bag right? It's that sweet impact! And it gets twice as good whithout the glove.Sure it hurts and your fists get scrapped but it's enjoyable!Am I wrong?
