what about pride, predjudice and zombies? I need to borrow that off my mum, sounds hilarious. The most important thing I've learned from zombie movies is never operate a chainsaw in a moving vehicle *shudder*.

Speaking of courses an adjunct instructor at the college I work at taught a zombie themed english 1a class. They read World War Z and one of their essays was on the ethics of killing zombies.
We're currently planning on using the Zombie Survival Guide for our One Book One Campus project in the fall (although I'm not sure we've sold my boss on the idea yet). It should be a hell of lotta fun if we can pull it off.
Another good read is Walking Dead.

Let's see, I've seen the three Romero films, loved 28 days later, and keep falling asleep on Shaun of the Dead. I need to see the others and read the books still.
On the other hand, Mike, when did your friend move into my neighborhood? I have and appreciation for his statements about the populace like you would never believe.

what about pride, predjudice and zombies? I *loved* Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. Being force-fed Jane Austen during my college years caused me to hate the original book; the new re-vamp with zombies added made the book funny enough to read. Best of all, there are plans to make a movie out of it . If the producers and director hold true to the book, it's a guarantee that it will be quite funny. --Edward P.S. Loved George Romero's "Diary Of The Dead". A small-scale film about a college film crew that gets caught in the middle of a zombie apocalypse. The great thing about it is, it doesn't focus so much on zombie fighting, as it does on how people deal with the stress of such unusual events, and how these events change them-- some for the better, some for the worse. Worth the money to buy the DVD. P.P.S. . . .and definitely worth it for the mute Amish dynamite-wielding farmer. ;D

Oooh, good stuff here. ;D I didn't mention "Diary of the Dead"-- nice catch, ecovolo. It ain't bad. And I have really liked the issues of "The Walking Dead" that I have read, though I haven't read all of them (similar situation with "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies") After Mike's comment though, I think I'm gonna need to pick up a copy of "Day By Day Armageddon" over my next break from school. That's the only thing mentioned so far I haven't seen/read, and it sounds like a good one. I still stand by my first post as the basics to start with, though. P.S. Mark Hamill is like the Marlon Brando of voice acting. I think it's because he couldn't avoid the Luke Skywalker image in his on-camera stuff, and turned to an arena where he was free to assume any character seemlessly, instead. He's done some impressive stuff.

I like the look of most of the machete ones but not the longer sword like blade. They look i don't know a little to much of to little and a bit hokey to me.

i am doing my homework right now... downloading a copy of zombieland on itunes>>>LOL. Decent call. Zombieland's one of the better zombie movies since Romero's original three. Zombie Homework, eh? One moment...... Ahem. Required Reading: 1. World War Z by Max Brooks. Best depth of a zombie narrative I've ever seen. Gripping. Has been picked up for a movie deal by Brad Pitt's production company. 2. The Zombie Survival Guide By Max Brooks. Handbook for the coming apocalypse. Very lighthearted and fun, but with some solid general advice as well. 3. Not a text book, but this article will get you excited and have some stuff to throw back at people who question your zombie studies: www.cracked.com/article_15643_5-scientific-reasons-zombie-apocalypse-could-actually-happen.htmlRequired Viewing: 1. Romero's original three films ("Land of the Dead" sucked, sorry. Pass on it) Night of the Living DeadDawn of the Dead (My personal favorite. lots of fun) Day of the Dead Stellar practical gore effects, but a total downer. 2. Shaun of the Dead. Zombie fantasies are fun and should not take themselves too seriously. Remember that with this gem. 3. 28 days later I'm not a fan of fast zombies, but that doesn't stop this film from being incredible. Nothing better or different really happens in the sequel, this is the one you need to see. 4. Zombieland Short and sweet. This one ain't the best of the bunch, but it's one of the most palatable and easy to absorb. It's a good time without a huge commitment or huge message. Nut up or shut up, and enjoy the ride. 5. Braindead aka Dead Alive From the early twisted mind of Peter-Hobbit-loving-Jackson, this low-budget living cartoon is deliciously weird, while somehow maintaining a happy-go-lucky innocence throughout. This may be the goriest movie I've ever scene. And perhaps the silliest. I had a blast. There's references to this film in both King Kong and The Return of the King. There you go, with that basic course, anybody could become suitably well-versed in zombie. They won't be writing dissertations on it, but they'd have the conversational basics down pat and be able to hold their own with any native speaker. Class dismissed. I also liked Romero's 1973 film "The Crazies". It actually wasn't explicitly a zombie movie (seeing as it was not part of the Dead series), but it does have a lot of the essential Romero zombie elements and themes: Infected people/ spread of a disease/ Government-military involvement in plot and accompanying political overtones. You can actually watch the whole thing on youtube. There's a remake coming out, too. I'm sure a lot of you have seen commercials. A lot of people mindlessly hate on remakes, but I'd like to see which direction this is taken. I enjoyed Romero's original 1973 version, and I have some hopes for this.

Ok, I didn't know the one coming out was a remake. I'll have to catch the original before I see the new one. But another interesting film along those lines (zombie style, but not zombie) would be the post-apocalyptic "Tooth and Nail" that after dark films had produced as part of their horrorfest series. The concept of civilization coming to a screeching halt because we ran out of gasoline is something I can actually see happening. Take away folks cars and many of them just don't know what to do. Or is that just my cynical sarcastic side showing?

Patton Oswalt seems to think the same way you do. Frankly I cannot disagree:

Funny, I've never actually caught any of Patton Oswalt's stand-up before.
Here's the trailer for the movie I was talking about:
I want the scythe they use in the film. It just looks cool. But really, I can see a lack of gasoline really sending the industrialized countries into an apocalypse of sorts. On the other hand, the third world countries would just see things as "life as usual." Kinda like what my grandmother used to say about the great depression, since her family was already poor farmers they really didn't notice much of a difference.
