Hello all, I just took my son to school here in Millbrook, Alabama and heard on the news how somewhere someone's home burned partially. No one was home and later a neighbor saw a man looting the danaged house. The vigilent neighbor went and got his bow and tried to stop the looter and the man ran. The archer shot the looter right in the ol' arse. The looter went to the emergency room, the arrow still embedded in his posterior, to get seen and have someone remove the arrow. He was arrested there by the police.
I didn't catch where it was though. I thought y'all might find that interesting. I did, and thought it was funny as heck too! I would love to put an arrow into a burgler or looter! Our govenor here in Alabama signed into law in 2006, or has given us back the right to use deadly force if attacked anywhere on or in our property, in our car anywhere , or if on foot anywhere. He said he was tired of law abiding citizens being constant victoms of this scum and thugs out there, home invasions, burgleries, muggings, car jackings, etc, and being scared to defend themselves due to current laws. He said on the news that now it is law and we don't have to worry about being second guessed by some liberal judge! I thought that was neat and appreciated a bit of our freedom back! Later, Freebooter, Alabama

Hmm...would that my state would enact a similar law. Mind you, I have no desire to injure or kill anyone but it'd be nice to know I won't get crucified for protecting me and mine.

That is the thang, the right of a free man to protect self, State, and property.

I wonder what kind of bow he used.

I wonder what kind of bow he used. I was asking myself that question too. I wonder if he was using broadhead arrows?

He shot the guy while he was running away - while the looter is a scum, he wasn't exactly "attacking" the archer now was he?
It seems... excessive. The arrow could easily have killed the looter.

As far as shooting him running away, that is not excessive, it is trying to stop a piece of thieving scum from getting away so that he come back and rob and loot again, or worse. It does not seem excessive to me. I hate thieving scum like that, stealing and looting someone's hard earned possessions that they have worked for while the owner is gone, and the parasite doing it is too sorry to earn and buy his own stuff. It would suit me fine if it had've killed the vermin! FB

They still chop the hands off of thieves in some places. Barbaric but effective. We've beat that horse before though. If he hadn't been stealing he wouldn't have gotten shot in the butt. Hero of the day prize to the shooter. I too am tired of the criminals having more rights than their victims.
Hooray for Alabama.

I just feel that criminals and criminal activity are getting worse and worse, bolder and bolder, and out of control in this country. Something has to be done!

Ditto on the second part! The first part, I don't see it happening anytime soon ever! It's one of the reasons I moved out of that state. I also can't stand a thief! I work hard for the stuff I have, if someone wants to steal it there should be risk involved.

Guys,I live in canada.Up here because Ive studied and taught martial arts I would be in deep-deep-deep trouble if I ever laid my hands or anything else on an intruder.Even if he was armed. It is expected that I or anyone else possessing MA skills should be able to take down without injury an opponent.A number of years ago I had occasion to apply what have learned on an indivual who was yielding a knife-after I was done I walked away.No witness'-he survived the encounter but I garentee he will think twice before attacking someone else. Our laws up here garentee the rights of criminals above and before those of self preservation.I dislike our bleeding heart laws and wish we would go back to hangings for capital crimes and on third offences lock them up for good.My only advise to the bowmen is-try harder you missed the sweet spot.

Too bad it'll never happen here in NJ. Some idiot's been breaking into people's houses in my town for at least two months now. Most of my neighbors have been hit already, and I probably have only avoided it so far due to having a rather foreboding-looking house at night Since our cops can't get anyone after two months, it'd be nice if some homeowner could just make it easier for them with an arrow in the criminal's butt or, dare I say, a finger or two?

The arrow could easily have killed the looter. not if he were shot in the rim-piece, which i find hilarious... if I were at that position and it were legal, I would aim right for the ass, it adds insult to injury I would it that the person had used a curved medieval broad-head, those things can ruin your own day...

Had the guy run away and not been shot he would have probably thought he was hot stuff and go try to rob another house. He needed to be taught what happens.

I agree with ancalagon here. Using deadly force to stop a theft and shooting someone in the back is not something I would do.
While it makes for a funny story and it sounded like the guy got what he deserved, it would be a different story if the arrow pierced a vital organ.
