Got a ton of emails from a person claiming to be a a co movie producer, who was involved in the sequel to "The Sword and the Sorcerer" called "Tales of the antient empire". Sent me an elaborate promo poster with Kevin Sorbo as the new Talon and a bunch of this producer guy's credentials. Seemed to be semi legit, but I had my doubts. I was asked to make the new Tri-blade sword for the movie. We went round and round about how it could be made and materials and so forth, I simply said it was beyond my ability and to look for a master machinist type guy not a sword maker. I asked when it was needed and what was the budget for the prop. He said there was no budget and all about the recognition I would get in Hollywood etc., and that I should do it. The due date was second week in December. Hahahah got alot of stuff to be done in that month and if no budget for prop answer no. I was excited for about one minute to be honored to be asked to make a movie sword. Just had a feeling very soon that it was absolute BS. I asked for specs and where was the old prop just got a bunch of crap answers. Any other makers been approached by this creep for a free movie sword? Pisses me off that the one time I get a chance like this it is a silly sword with three blades and two of them shoot out, and no money and basically a pretty good scam. Been scam attempted for free swords before, feels pretty lousy. Anyway I thought you guys would want to hear the story:)

Ouch! Glad to hear that it didn't work on ya, lol. Is there even going to BE a sequel for that movie? It's, like, 90 years old. ;D Oh, and yeah, that sword is kind of retarded, at least IMO. There is decent-looking SLO one on the market, but no functional versions I know of except for CAS Hanwei's rendition from a few years back. You know, if I ever make a movie, I'll make absolutely SURE to get props from you. Wait a second... I forgot I'm not an actor, I have no contacts in the industry, and most of all, no interest in the show biz either. ;D Nice thought though. lol Later! ;D -Slayer

Ok, which SBG member was it? ;D
On a serious note, this type of crap happens all the time with increasing frequency. People always want to find a way to get something for nothing it seems. These scammers need a sword alright. They need it *This portion of the post was censored for violent content*.
When I ran my online business, people would email me weekly with some story about needing weapons/armor and not having any money. Let's see; there was the High School needing props for Macbeth, the Church needing free Roman armor for a Christmas play, the Vietnam vet that always wanted a sword, but could not afford it, and lastly, some guy from NASA that wanted a Leatherman to present a gift to a crew member of the Shuttle Atlantis. The list goes on and on about scammers trying to get free junk from my website. LOL.
Anyway, I am glad they did not screw you out of a sword in the end.

Glad you got the smarts not to be fooled by this bozo John. A sword by you would be to cool to feature in a rubbish seqaul to that movie. I liked the first one in a fun way, haha! Never seen a replice of that sword though.

Thanks guys:) Yeah that's the poster I got in the emails but when I was told to go to trailer there was none. Now Kevin Sorbo and Christopher Lambert might be good casting but if they could afford them boys why not a movie prop and with more timeto produce said prop? That's just stupidity with giving me a few weeks to make for free. The first movie at the time did have a budget and many of the swords and daggers were custom made not rented from a hollywood prop department. I just feel violated ;(

www.imdb.com/title/tt1136688/Looks legit But it WILL suck, so now John doesn't have to be a Hollywood laughing stock. They were trying to scam you anyways, whoever that creep was. Good for you! Though if you ever want to make ME a free Odinblade.... ....no... must...resist.... temptation...... I have an image of the Nigerian scam with payment being a sword rather than some bozo cash payment.

I went though the same exact issues with the sequel to Maxum Zul with Adam West.
I held out for $$$. In the end I was the ONLY person to get paid! The movie didnt get made but the trailer was and all the expenses where out of pocket for the actors and everyone else who was promised big returns on the movie.
I only 'rented' the sword and still have it. It runs on propane and billows flames!

Hey Slayer didn't you try to get a free sword the first time you contacted me? I confess, lol. HOWEVER, I didn't make any untrue claims, you know. And I wasn't quite aware of what 'bad form' that was. In the end, though, it led me to SBG and a life-long love for FableBlades, so I think we both won. ;D But, yeah, sorry about that early incident. Official apology for former discresions has been realized! ;D And of course, you have to realize that that WAS over a year ago, during which time I believe that I've matured considerably. I wouldn't do the same thing over again now, of course. Thanks for drudging up a painful memory, though. Really. ;D lol (I'm joking, of course. No hard feelings- you're just telling the truth. ) Thanks for not hating me for it! And btw... I'm still loving my Garrigal and FTW. They're not 3 feet away from me as I type... ;D Later, Slayer

Sounds like a scam to me, even the smallest budget, straight to DVD films have budgets for such things.
In my job, I often have to check whether people are who they say they are, and the easiest way is just to call the company directly(i.e. get the main switchboard number of the internet). if they are claiming to be from a big company a very quick phone call will confirm if they are legit or not .

All kidding aside, what a dirty snake-in-the-grass thing to do but you've been around awhile John mate, so I'm sure you've seen just about all these sorts of things by now? Good you weren't taken for a ride.

Yeah he was hell funny lol. I'd love to post the letter. Can I slayer? It was cute. He was going to test his free sword to destruction for me as an unbiased tester, and in return make me famous and get me heaps of business via this really popular website he'd found called swordbuyersguide.com
He was a real enthusiastic little sales person, and made me want to try to help him out so I did him a good deal on my FanTacWak and Garrigal, being that they were very early pieces that he'd enjoy more than me. I was actually even gonna make him a small knife for free, though I didn't tell him that, but he wanted a sword length blade...

AoV has been approached by several independent film makers, but thus far never by a scammer looking for a free sword. Some people will try anything. Glad to hear you did not fall for it.

As to that Garrigal sword... you did him a HUGE favor with that, since I was trying to buy it from you... and you told me he had dibs and you had to offer it to him first. I wanted that sword... I love the look of it. Guess I'll have to get you to make me something like it, only better.
