Well it should have read deceiding on a sword and who to purchase it from is hard.I sold one of my swords and I can afford around $300.00 to get something to replace it.Wow where did all the swords in that price range suddenly come from.Seems just 4 or 5 years ago their were few choices. Now with Darksword, Hanwei and their Tinker line,Valients new line and I really like the line that Scorpion has in his custom made inexpensive offerings.Plus I dont want to even get into the number of vendors that are selling these things and all there sales,no shipping charges, free sharpening It's downright confusing I guess it's a good thing to have so many choices but what to purchase is confusing.I have read a lot and seems everybody has their favorites and the quality has risen quite a bit from years past. This may take a bit of thought and even after getting something I'm pretty some sort of buyers remorse will take hold for what I missed. sorry I dont mean to complain again I guess all the choices are a good thing but wow confusing.

I know. :/ There's way too many nice swords out there.
This hobby ensures that I will never be a rich man. Even if I suddenly got rich, soon I'd be a poor man with lots of swords.

Given what you sold... I don't think you want to follow it up with just any production sword. What about the SBG Bastered Sword Stright Blade? Thats in the range your looking at, is custom and very cool... Barring that, look into something somewhat custom I ould think.

I sold one of my Jody Samson swords, bills have to be paid.I thought it might not hurt to take $300.00 out of my sale and replace it with a less expensive sword.I really like darkswords new Migration sword and one of the Hanwei tinkers maybe the viking. It may take a while to see who is cheapest or whats on sale. This is one of those times I am glad a forum like this exhists.

Ah, to be in your shoes! This is the most painful (besides the wait of course) part of the production; making the right choice. There are a lot of really good swords to choose from within that price range; I do envy you, sir.
Choose wisely.

the Hanwei Tinker swords are really nice but if I was going to get one I'd have it touched up by the Custome Sword Shoppe guys over at Valiant Armoury. also if you are a member of the CSS forum you will get a pretty steep discount from Sonny. these guys are the nice middle ground between expensive custom and cheap production swords. definitely worth a look.

Dont envy me to much selling one of my Samson swords was one of the hardest things I have had to do.I guess it's only a material posession but getting another one will almost be impossible and to me it was not just a sword but a piece of art.I should use all the money I got for it to pay bills and may yet do that.I am hopping though to use no more than $300.00 to at least keep up the collection and maybe make it hurt a bit less by getting a new sword but dam where did all these choices come from. I started buying swords 20 years ago and the choices were few and far between and there was no info at all out there. Now theres so much it's almost confusing.I am leaning to either a darksword or a tinker so far.

I agree with Sanmarc. Either a Hanwei Tinker, or a Valiant Practical would be my personal choice.

That is tough. All these choices and one sword. You could start by making a list of all that you want out of the sword. Then make a list of the pros and cons of each of the swords you are interested in purchasing.

I'd say a tinker, but if you go with DSA and want it sharp make SURE to buy from ArmsofValor.com. His sharpening option is far superior to DSA's standard one, and what's more, he's offering free sharpening right now! While were at it... I'd reccomend AoV no matter what you get. ;D Jason (trueswordsman) is an awesome guy, and his customer service is unbeatable. Just a suggestion. Enjoy whatever you choose, man, and remember: WE WANT REVIEWZ!!!! lol... -Slayer

Hiya, Buli. I know what you're saying. If you're looking for something that you can cut with but also has some style take a look at the Gen 2 stuff on the AoV website--they offer an SBG discount on Gen2. I picked up a Gen2 Chaos sword a month or two back off ebay (amazing deal on that one) and it is very nice--except for the handle wrap which I plan to re-do. I'm not saying the other options aren't good but for functionality and style (and all the swords of yours that I've seen have some style) I think Gen 2 might be worth a look anyway. (If you go DSA get a guardian with a red wrap--it'd look sweet with your armor.)
Sorry to hear you had to part with one of your Samsons. But you've still got the Draco, right?

I checked out the AOV sight and found this 11th century norman I like the looks of anybody know whats up with it. www.armsofvalour.com/miva/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=AOVL&Product_Code=1307&Category_Code=DSAI am also a member of the valiant armory forum is there any discounts available through them. I also checked out getting a DSA migration through here SBG and it dosent seem available nor does the tinker hanwei sharp viking. I wont go into pricing but i could also get a very good price on a Subotai sword from Scorpion sword. The good about that is it is custom and when albion had them they sold for $2054 and I dont believe anyone even makes one.OK I'm a sucker for saber style barbarian/fantasy swords and gotta love the blades from Conan. BTW I think I need to apoligize to a few people who couldnt make up their minds either and I got sick of their continuing questions in threads sorry but this is confusing.

wow, selling a sampson would be rough man, I feel for you needing to fill that hole but I'm not sure any "makeshift" patch job will actually work.

One of DSA's better single hander's, I would think, although the 100-Year War sword looks similar and has gotten some VERY favourable reviews. It's Daniel's favorite of the last production run DSA's. Here's why- /index.cgi?board=swordreviews&action=display&thread=6740&page=1 Here's the H/T Viking, although I couldn't find the Migration Era sword that you were talking about. Since it's basically brand-new, I'd suggest emailing Jason (ArmsofValor@earthlink.net) about it. He probably either can get the sword for you, or he may already have it and just hasn't had time to upload it onto the site. Yes, CustomSwordShoppe forum members get a discount on customization through the CustomSwordShoppe. I think it's around 20%. I don't really know anything about Scorpion, but they appear to make nice stuff, albiet not to my tastes most of the time. I know what you mean about the questions, but... it really doesn't annoy me, at least. It DOES annoy me when a newb is just going "ohh!! Sharp and pointy! OOOH! EVEN POINTIER!!!", lol, but logical, intelligent questions from logical, intelligent members could hardly become annoying quickly. So, on that note, ask as many questions as you want! ;D ...Well, except that one about the PB&J versus a ham sandwich... that'd get nasty, quick! -Slayer

There seems to be a few 100 year war swords on the discount page for SBG members on a DSA sale page. I like the sword and emailed about availability. They are like $100 off list. I own the Achilles sword from Scorpion and it is very well made so I think he could do a very good job on the Subotai sword. For some reason I wrote migration era sword I thought that was what it was called but now it is listed as the 11th century viking sword there is a thread about it as a new sword. Thanks for all the input everyone I'll figure this out by tommorow or I'm sure the wife will use the cash for bill's (even though it's needed for those)

I believe price should not be much of a factor if the sword is good...

Price usually isnt a factor if I had unlimited funds,I would have Fable or Odin make me a custom. However I have $300.00 to spend and the choices compaired to just a few years ago is staggering.Seems there are a lot of simmaler swords at the $300.00 price point and I'm just asking other peoples opinion and if I missed a thread on sales for the holidays. Two or three years ago I would have driven over to Museum Replicas by now and had a sword but now the other makers/vendors at the same price point seem to be a better value for my money.I've been collecting for over 20 years and you cant imagine how little was available then as compaired to now, that's why I'm unsure.I'm not scared I would get a bad sword I just need to buckle down and choose a favorite type.

buliwyf, you can hardly go wrong with either the VA Practical or H/T series of swords...most bang for your buck you'll find at this price range.
