You, know, I always figured that if I had a lightsaber, I wouldn't want it to be made so my top hand is right next to the "guard" as if holding a katana. Then the pivot point would be behind my hand. I would want the guard/emitter area to be extend several inches past where the gripping area ends, and have enough weight that the balance point is just further than my fingers, like the way a fencing foil is balanced. Like, if the "blade" starts where the ricasso area of a sword normally is. Then I could move the sucker real fast and have point control, but the balance would still be beyond my hand so that I would still feel a tactile feedback as to where the damn thing was pointing. The prop movie sabers had really light carbon blades, but they still had slightly forward balance points like this. That's the only way to do this. The in-film fantasy way would be freakishly dangerous.
But I digress. A little.

I thought it would be tough to be sneaky with all the noise a lightsaber makes not much for stealth ops, never thought out the obvious balance issue's I just figured Jedi were the only ones that could use them they must have the whole (Force Balance) thing going on.

That's why you use the Force to strangle'm....Jedi would've made perfect assassins...no one ever recognized a Jedi offhand unless they were told, or saw the lightsabre or saw them do some sort of Jedi stunt. Sure, they wore the robes but still...they could just as easily wear something else and Force Strangle someone within the sightline and then go on into the Cantina and have a cold one.
Hell, give me Force powers, I won't need a lightsabre...but it'd be cool to have a hand held laser cutting tool. lol

Star Wars:
This thread is now about it.
Motivational pl0x! Though, seriously, I wonder if a mixture could be made between the Japanese and European sword, something more elegant than the Dark Sentinel by Hanwei and more useful than the Imperial Japanese Army's Kyu-Gunto. Ooooh, while we're still off topic, anyone know if there's any kind of kyu-gunto training still left? Even in manual form, failing masters? how would one use such a weapon?

I've never been much for the katana. I know it's not quite accurate but They've always seemed like glorified butcher knives to me. I mean in terms of overall design, they're rather interesting, but as a fencer they seem sort of...limited. Good cutters to be sure, but a fight isn't all about cutting your opponent.
It's really just a matter of style, isn't it?

www.toyamaryu.org/That's the system of swordsmanship taught to Japanese NCO's and Officers in the WW2ish era. Besides, what's wrong with the gunto M.

I saw at one point someone who had mounted a katana blade with a western cross, pommel and grip, I really liked the idea but then I love sabres.

As for blades splitting bullets in half, it can be done with something as small as a combat knife. I mean, really, it's a soft, heated piece of metal impacting on a sharp, cold and hard piece of metal at a very high speed; the bullet splitting in half is really nothing too impressive and I'd venture to say that any sufficiently sharp sword should be able to do it.

Didn't Lundemo make a matched set of Katana blades with a western cross guard and pommel? If I remember, the handles were wrapped in green rayskin...

As it cutting a machine gun barrel , the big question is, why not chop his head off or cut him in half instead of cutting the barrel???

My question is this- Let's say you CAN cut a bullet in half, you have the required superpowers, etc. Ok, so you demonstrated your godly moves, and sliced the bullet in half, right down the middle. ........You now have 2 holes in you, with a small interval, instead of one. Franly, you'd be better off just taking the bullet.
And yeah, if you can get close enough to cut his weapon, you'd be better off just slicing his hand/arm off, that has a very good chance of working...... But from what i heared (From " a friend of a friend who's grandfather fought in WW2", etc.), the story of cutting gun barrels originates from a scenario of a cornered Japanese officer that, as a last resort, took a whack at his opponent's gun. Of course, in any other case when the sword carrying soldier isn't cornered, it would be much saner just pulling out his gun/rifle.... (and they had excellent rifles, the arisaka is one of my favourite rifles of all times)

Katana vs 50cal machine gun.
Kinda cool but still, steel vs copper/lead steel should win.

Wow, that's a big ol' gun!!
Still, the sword DID cut the first few bullets, if you watch the slow motion, but what good did it do in the end?
Not one damn bit.

The reason for disabling the machine gun was so that it couldn't be used by the next enemy soldier after they shot you to death after you cut the machine gunner down. There were always usually several enemy soldiers in a machine gun nest, and as a lone attacking warrior, you had time for maybe killing 1 enemy soldier, or damage the machine gun so it was out of action.

yea, but the people probably had guns/Thommies and they probs weren't just gonna just stand there, they would retreat or something. If it was a machine gun though (cause actually I was thinking about a Thompson) how did they get close enough to the machine gun to cut the barrel unless the people in it ran out of ammo, at which point cutting the machine gun would be pointless. other than that, I know of no sword (other than an original Anduril and/or Excalibur) that can go through that much steel, pics below (might need to scroll down). world.guns.ru/machine/mg59-e.htm
