What Anime/Manga swords would work in real life?

Thought I'd start a fun thread with an idea that may have been done before. As I read through japanese comics and watch an outlandish sword based anime, I find myself wondering whether or not a sword used by a character could actually be made and be functional. I'm not including the cheap stainless steel anime swords here, I'm looking at the more questionable swords.
I'll begin this thread with a sword from the original crazy sword comedy manga, Rurouni Kenshin. Not Kenshin's sakabato (there's already too many of those on the market), but rather the sword of Makoto Shishio, the Mugenjin. Mugenjin is a traditional katana designed to maintain its sharpness. Many katana will chip and break at certain points with repeated use, however the Mugenjin was methodically chipped so that it wouldn't lose its edge or crack. The end result is a traditional katana with a minute saw like edge (the comic implies that you need to see the edge up close to see the serated saw like edge).
My understanding of tradtional katana tells me that this sword couldn't be made. Because of the hard edge of traditionally made katana, chipping the edge from the beginning would likely crack the balde and make it useless. However, if you were to make this sword more like a beater, that is, modern steel and not treated like a traditional katana, it may be possible to bring the sword into existence but leave its functionality questionable.
The ever minutely serated edge to the sword interests me. The fact that you'd need to bring the blade close up to actually see it makes me wonder if it could possible be made for a traditional katana. With a beater and a lot of time and detail you might be able to make it but I doubt it could be mass produced easily. If I was more text savy I'd upload a picture of the blade from the comic but I don't know how to do that on this forum. If anyone can explain this sword concept more clearly than me please do.
With all this said and done for the first entry into this thread I hope I have set the mood. Any interesting sword you've seen from an anime or read in a manga that you'd like to debate whether or not it could be made or even functional please talk about it here and help this new thread grow. Hope everyone (or at least the anime/manga demographic) will enjoy this thread.
