Has anyone bought anything from this seller? shop.ebay.com/thebestblade/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_from=&_ipg=25It looks to me like they threw together a bunch of Windlass and DSA knockoffs, and have been pimping them using the official photos. I bought their version of the German Bastard Sword about a month ago, and I was pumped at first, I thought "Sweet! Hard to find, highly sought-after, and less than $100, what a steal!" Then it arrived, and I was wrong! The photo showed a sharp point, but the one I received was rounded, not even a hint of profile taper. It looked more like a fraternity paddle than a sword. I knew for sure something was fishy when I didn't see a Windlass logo, just the word INDIA near the hilt that looked like it had been scratched into the blade with a fork. Luckily I was able to drop it right back in the mail and get a full refund. Has anyone else had this experience? That's the same guy, thebestblade on eBay! He sold me that craptastic Crecy I was just going on about earlier in this thread. Midori, by the way, I have one of those fantastic ninja-to that you saw in that video, exact same one. It was the first 'sword' I ever bought, for $12 at a flea market (before I knew you should never do such a thing)....mine broke at the handle though. First swing, true story. Ah, the good ole days!

Although to answer the question, I bought a "German short sword" that Smokey mountain sells for like $11.00 a while ago. The blade was loose and rattly, it was curved somewhat sideways, and had a pretty wide "edge" on it. Despite this it could cut water filled cans pretty easily, and I thought it was cool. After a few days the blade fell off the hilt completely, so I put some wraping on the back of the blade and thought that was cool. Although after a while it's effect wore off and I returned it for a refund. Now I fell sorry for SMKW... ( If you look in that video, it says they have a lifetime warranty... )

Man o man,in other places here on the forum I've been heard to say that I've bought stinkers in my past-they are all gone now.My worst experiance with one was a 90.$ ninja POS-just a teenager back then I ran off with acouple of my buds and began chopping wildly at what threatening trees or branchs that dared to cross our paths.Well, the blade snapped off at about the halfway mark and whirled past my buddys nose.No one was hurt-the whole thing is still rusting up on the back hill to this day.I have one wall hanger my sister bought me-if it says INDIA on it,its not a katana.I probubly should have told her this. She meant well. My sister went to business trip in Ontario (or Vancouver ) and bought me a folding knife with build in baby shuriken from China town at whopping $30 .It was made in China and it has automatic closing mechanism (it will close by itself when it feel like it regardless of my thumb or other part of my body in its way ) . This lesson I learn time and time again not to tell my family to buy me knife when they go oversea 'cause they couldn't tell knife from letter openner but I just hope one of this day I might get lucky and they actually bought some real gem back from oversea

After burying the neighbor's dog, I learned my lesson. Dang! serious? I have one of those BudK flashy cool things that look like a sword. It's a "reverse blade" tachi with a dagger in the end of the handle. It looked really cool i thought. haha and then the other one is a ninjato that was like $35 and looked like a big kitchen knife. neither feel very good as far as handling. The worst one though is one this person gave me out of nowhere, it's a "sword in a stick" katana. absolutely terrible, and the handle is like a painted piece of scrap wood. I try to pass along my learning to others and save them the money.

Shoot! that's crazy. I know it's not very funny but I'm laughing like crazy right now, i just can't believe it.
*sobers up* But you know, once you learn a lesson the hard way, you never forget it. I've had to learn a few lessons myself and I wish I didn't need to, but I have definitely changed for the better.
+1 for lesson learned

That is one of many reason that particular friendship ended many years ago. No karma needed all debts there have long been paid.

He gets away with it because he doesn't advertise who made them- I swear these're the ones that got thrown out and someone rescued'm from the junk pile. Would I be wrong for selling it? LOL

I owned a set of SLO katana when I was younger. They were sempriniing semprini.
In terms of "real" swords i would have to say a no brand katana I own. The individual parts weren't awful but they were put together like semprini. The blade is quite nice and I use it for any polishing /sharpening experiments I do. its good to have something I'm not afraid to semprini up.

Worst sword aye.. I would say x2 Ryan Swords i managed to sell. Also owned a sword blade bought from any ebay. Source claimed to have been tamahagane and so on.. Upon inspection blade was not tempered properly he claimed to be a battle ready blade was not .. was a shinto also habaki was very very plain nor was it suited or fit to cut matts. Mei signature was in Chinese not Japanese. Hamon was very hard to tell due to polish but upon inspection again laminated sword. Least to say a big learning curve my faith has been shaken in ebay never will i buy swords from ebay.

The worst blade that I have ever purchased was a $20 "Medieval Muslim sword" from Pakistan. When I finally started to study from what and how swords were supposed to be, I disassembled it to find a very rusty and poorly done rat tail tang weld. I ended up just selling the blade and hilt components to a scrap yard for a couple bucks.
Surprisingly enough, my first "sword" has been one of the best purchases I have ever made for anything whether it be swords or anything else. Although it's technically not a sword, the machete has outlasted several camping trips and used for everything from using the butt of the handle as a hammer to using it to cut light firewood. A decade going strong in that trusty little blade.

My worst was a SLO katana/ninja sword very like the one in the infamous video, it looked almost exactly the same but made a bit better the sheath was wooden strips for example. I used it to hack down some small branches in the backyard but after I saw that video I dismantled it and actually tried to break the rat tang but couldn't. The weld was very well done and the tang metal was soft so it was flexible. It sucks but I still have the twisted remains, the blade is still good for a cheapo. I'm going to grind off the old tang and edge on the lower part of the blade and make a wooden grip. It should be a decent machete.

Probably the sword I'm most disappointed with, though, is my older model William Marshall from Hanwei. Overweight, hollow pommel, poor balance, just a bear to handle. Manageable once the trick is found, but a sore arm is to be expected later. I just simply can't understand that!!! That's probably one of the BEST swords I've ever had... It's excellently balanced, and does NOT feel heavy at all (well, maybe when swung a several times). Its cutting and thrusting abilities are awesome as well. Well, that's just my opinion, but I seriously like this one a lot!!! ;D

That's the thing about almost anything in life but even moreso with swords: What one person hates another person loves. The reason one person dislikes a sword might be the very reason another person loves it.
Takes some getting used to.

The worst one I've owned is a Katana, that would cut Multiple mats. It would cut bamboo too, but not big pieces or yellow at all. It was Alright. But The hamon is boring(etched-no Activity). I did some research before I bought a sword at all.

Haha, the worst I ever owned was a well-intentioned gift from my stepdad. It's actually a three sword set. The blades are potmetal, not even stainless, and have nearly 1/8" worth of 'edge' on them. There was no attempt to get geometry correct; they look like big butter knives. There's no habaki, the tsuba are gold-plated plastic, they had chains instead of sageo and were covered in...from plastic kashira to the end of the saya...faux pink snakeskin. Yep, you read that right. They are of course rat tail and the saya and tsuka are plastic as well. Though the thought does count, they are really quite hideous. They have been relegated to the farthest corner of my closet. While it was a nice sentiment...I just can't bring to stick them on my sword rack along with my Nihonto, Bugei, et al. The worst part? My fiance received the same set in green cloth instead of the faux snakeskin for Christmas from my mother. So now there's six of those things sitting in the back of our closet. Oh well. It's the thought that counts. -MidoriKurogami of Sword N Armory. WOW!!! You definitely need to bust those out for a photo shoot!! Perhaps a review? I've never even HEARD of anything like that.. and you have TWO?!?! So jealous... ;D

I,m not directly involved in the history i will tell you, but its worth speaking about. A friend of my friends ( which i sporadically see each 3 or 4 years ) told me when i helped him move that he heard i had an interest in swords from our common friends. Happy to see that i would maybe finaly have another sword addict to chat about harmonic balance, real yokote and whatnot i was really happy that this subject seemed to spark interest in him. He told me he had bought two swords in the last two years, one worth around 400$ and the other a whooping 900 $, and that the 900$ one was a katana. I told him i'm more into euro blades but still, i was kinda curious to see that thing ! So, a couple of days later, his boxes are emptied and i decide to pay him a visit, to see what he was talking about. That when the story really starts. First thing he shows me was his 400$ one, he told me in a cavernous voice : this is Merlin's sword ! ouch... a Marto stainless steel monster... even the handle was in stainless... 400... yeah... ok, its Marto's stuff, so its naturally overpriced. He was really excited by the fact that it was made in Toledo ( remembering me by the way the Toledo's smith historical reputation... ). So... now i wanted to see the 900$ marvel, and he did show me ! Oh yeah ! The saya was covered in a blue synthetic fabric with white flowers on it, this same fabric was also used insted of the ray skin. It had silver fittings ( yes, it was plastic ) and a marvellous spotless stainless steel blade ( it was written on it ) with a glorious pyramidal and perfectly repetitive hamon, the best thing was that it was dangerously sharp ... He was so hyped up... i couldnt... i couldnt tell him that he had been totally robbed... I cant even understand how he couldnt see that there was plastic on this thing !!! I mean... when you make a 900$ dollars spending, you try to make sure you'll get what you pay for ?! Aaargh.. i should also say that when he bough this he was in state of depression after loosing both his parents in the same year after getting dumped by his girlfriend which he just had a kid with... This seller is probably still laughing at this, but, i'm sure many people are fooled like this every day. Sad story for a crappy blade. Anyhow, i gave him the tip about SBG, i'm not sure he took a look at the website, i'll ask him in about 3 years
