Has anyone bought anything from this seller? shop.ebay.com/thebestblade/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_from=&_ipg=25It looks to me like they threw together a bunch of Windlass and DSA knockoffs, and have been pimping them using the official photos. I bought their version of the German Bastard Sword about a month ago, and I was pumped at first, I thought "Sweet! Hard to find, highly sought-after, and less than $100, what a steal!" Then it arrived, and I was wrong! The photo showed a sharp point, but the one I received was rounded, not even a hint of profile taper. It looked more like a fraternity paddle than a sword. I knew for sure something was fishy when I didn't see a Windlass logo, just the word INDIA near the hilt that looked like it had been scratched into the blade with a fork. Luckily I was able to drop it right back in the mail and get a full refund. Has anyone else had this experience?

Yep, I had the exact same thing happen. After i received my extremely underwhelming sword, I realized that I had seen the photos they used before.......nicely stolen off a Finnish website. www.rautaportti.fi/aseet/miekat/GermanBastardSword/GermanBastardSword.htmNeedless to say i won't be buying from them again. I guess it goes to show that often if it seems to be too good to be true...it probably is Dan

The title says it all. We know about people's favorite swords, but what about the worst 'combat-ready' blades out there. Tell us about the worst sword you ever owned. ;D For me it was a Deepeeka Saxon Longsword (see below). The thing weighed about 6 lbs (even though it is supposed to weigh around 3). I managed to lay an edge on it and the very first time I cut a 2L water bottle, the blade took a set. The second cut broke the grip off. After I replaced the grip a few days later, another cutting session broke the pommel free of the tang thereby making it a total loss. Worst waste of money yet. I could have gotten better performance out of a United Cutlery LoTR sword... I had one too! It arrived loose! I could never tighten it up sufficiently, either... the hilt assembly was just plain lousy. On the other hand, mine had a blade that was actually pretty flexible! I guess if I wanted a do-it-yourself sword, the blade might have worked, but I didn't....

Next to that Deepeeka Saxon, the worst "real sword" I ever owned was a generic India-made medieval "broadsword" I bought from Sportman's Guide several years ago. It was heavy, it was ugly, it had rust (!!!) on the blade when it arrived, and the blade had the temper of warm butter. I gave the sword to a friend, as a gift, for free -- a friend who is not "sword knowledgeable", and really isn't all that into swords anyway, but he thought it would make a fun wall-hanger. Well, he ended up giving it back! Lessons -- 1. Don't buy swords from places that usually don't sell swords. 2. Don't give your friends gifts that suck.

Wow, that's pretty bad. Reminds me of a video that was circulating a while back from some shopping channel's knife program. They were featuring the aforementioned $19.99 craptana ninjatoes (misspelling purposeful) and the host was hitting the mune of one against a 2x4 and talking about how durable it was...and it broke, flew up and hit him in the chest. That was a 'doh!' moment for him I'm sure. M.

Haha, I had one of those too (another gift). I got curious and completely dissected it...to find the sheath was made of cardboard! Plus, the 'kissakis' resemble bowie knives. And I actually had someone try to convince me that theirs was master forged, thousands of years old and imbued with power! Even before I knew anything about swords I knew better than that. And no, it was not a child, it was a thirty-eight year old man I used to work with. But he was one of those that was uber impressed with BudK catalogs. Oh, and did I mention he was also delusional?

Everytime i see this video, i'm sooooooo happy i don't have a wallhanger, and was knowledgeable enough to at least buy a -real- first sword....

Oof. I actually HAD one of those "ninja" swords in that video. I bought it on a whim in conjunction with my Hanwei Practical Katana because I didn't really know any better and, well, it was less than 20 bucks! And all swords look pretty good in a low resolution photo from "SwordSourceSworldLandSwordAwsomeHughSwordSelection.com" or what have you. It was BAD. Ugh. I re-gripped it in tactical black-looking tennis grip tape and fixed the dangerously sharp-edged guard, then I sold it at a garage sale and got my 20 bucks back.

My first one (surprise surprise) One of my veritable army of uncles got it for me from the mall at a whopping $20. It was (WAS) a grossly oversized faux-two hander. All kinds of interesting little doo-dads on it. So, of course, I set out to see how fast I could f**k it up. I sharpened it with a knife sharpener, and promptly went and banged on a tree with it. Long story short, I ended up in the emergency room with my side opened up, and my relatives glaring at me like vipers. I still have the peices hanging on my wall as a testament to my own stupidity, with the blood long rusted into the blade. Above it, I hung an old plank, into which I scratched "for god's sake, don't ask"

Yea, the one I was talking about is one of these; picked it up at a flea market and while it didn't helicopter on me, the handle cracked on the second swing and then I saw it was just a threaded rod. I've seen worse (half/push tang ftw) but not by much. That clip still makes me laugh tho, because it seemed he was just about to say how sturdy they were when it snapped. LOL

Man o man,in other places here on the forum I've been heard to say that I've bought stinkers in my past-they are all gone now.My worst experiance with one was a 90.$ ninja POS-just a teenager back then I ran off with acouple of my buds and began chopping wildly at what threatening trees or branchs that dared to cross our paths.Well, the blade snapped off at about the halfway mark and whirled past my buddys nose.No one was hurt-the whole thing is still rusting up on the back hill to this day.I have one wall hanger my sister bought me-if it says INDIA on it,its not a katana.I probubly should have told her this. She meant well.

As a child, I enjoyed looking at the saber my grandfather has from the Texas Revolutionary War. It's a mexican cavalry saber and I was always fascinated with it, but, because he doesn't know how to care for it, it's practically stuck in it's sheath. he'd always have to pull it out and got tired of doing so. To remedy this, he thought he'd buy me my own sword when he saw a "boy's sword" from india at some gun shop or another for $11. the handle was colored glass and the blade was a curved block the same thickness from hilt to tip. I still swung it at vines and beat them to death with it as an enthusiastic 6 year old is want to do. Looking back on it, I can see how really terrible that sword was...
