I would never ever trust my life to a windlass, so no spartan lakonian. Go for a tactical sword from a very good maker, anything else is a waste of money if you want a weapon for war.

Well, I guess we shouldn't trust all those gurkas in the british army sporting windlass made kukris. What do gurkas know about warfare anyways? Federico

the Brittish army uses Windlass Kukris? really? I had no idea. still there's a huge difference between trusting your life to a Windlass blade tried and tested by a first world military power and trusting your life to an unknown, untested random sword with screw-together fittings and not terribly well done at that. I'd trust my life to a Valiant Armoury Practical sword before anything from Windlass, not that I would go into battle with anything less than a full ATrim. but that's just me. we all make our choices.

I wonder how many of those guys actually keep and carry their allegedly-windlass kuks. I figure most have the local guy make one for them. An even better question is, how many ever USE their kukris anymore, anyway? And is it truly a commendable trait that a knife...act like a knife?

I don't know if they still do, but I do know that's how they started out, so the British Gurkas did sport them. They also say on their site that they still provide several armies with combat knives, but who knows if that's true or not. I agree with you though, there's a huge difference between the said blades, and their lakonian was never tested to the limit. However, I think that generalizing over the entiry company and saying that anything that comes out their production line is not good enough to be trusted is unfair. As a side note, this version of the lakonian can also fit the bill: traditionalarcherybows.com/My_Homepage_Files/Page64.htmlFederico

I never said ANYTHING that comes out of Windlass is not good enough to trust but certainly SOME of Windlass' stuff isn't trust-worthy and probably some of it is but why would I trust a Winldass when I could have an ATrim?
