Well another update. John and I have reached an agreement, and a check for half of the fee goes out tomorrow...
Marc will have an Odin...
Laird shall be its name.
Its my Girlfriends Irish Clann Laird i mean... and it means lord, land owner, or landlord.
This shall be treasured and passed down to chidren and grandchildren until one sells it for dope in a century or two...lol
Please share my joy... this will be the most special possession I own. Huge Congrats to you, my friend. I'll look forward to pics and one of your usual very well writen reviews! ;D -Slayer

Congrats man. I can't wait to see it. It'll be an absolute beauty I'm sure. Any indication how long we'll be waiting?

John tells me Feb. or March... but I'm going to try to have a friend with influence see if he can work me in by Christmas... and offer a bonus perhaps if he does.... So... probably sometime in spring or summer 2010.

Well, one thing that I can say is that John is almost NEVER actually 'late', so you won't have to worry about it being summer before you get your new baby. If he says Feb-March, you'll get it by the end of March. Let's hope for early 2010, unless some space opens up before Christmas. ;D I'm super excited... It ALWAYS turns out well when someone gives John a bit of free reign, so to speak. One day, I'm going to give him $1000 and just tell him to make me a sword. Period. Now that will be cool. ;D Keep us updated! -Slayer

Would you consider Ogham? - it's disinctly Irish over other Rune types. Though it was used in 4th - 7th C.

Congrats Marc! A little late but... I think your choice is marvelous! A tribute to her heritage in a form that is fitting for you. The green sounds very nice - there is a green longsword in Christian Fletcher's photo album that always begs me to click on it. The ring will look great too, I liked the ring in Brenno's grip. I am not so sure about the mix of copper and steel, but it can be tied together artfully...John sounds like the man for the job....although Tinker would have been a great choice too. I can't wait to see what he does for you I have a pile of sword money burning a hole in my pocket too. I am leaning towards getting a nice katana, but as you mentioned earlier a nice katana is so much more money than a nice western style sword. So, I am still saving until something clicks, or until I go Japan (lol, I am already lobbying for a year in Japan for our next sabbatical ).

Yes, a bit late me self...but congrats Marc...what a wonderful gift indeed!
If I ever had that amount for a sword (will never happen though) I'd go for a CF custom or a Pavel Moc or a Vladimir Cervenka longsword.
cheers,
Bill

I will send him the sketches and say do something like this , roughly this size .... and make it an ODIN !! Outside of just letting John have free reign, this is the best thing you could do, Marc you are gonna be thrilled!

I may be way off base here, but didn't I hear somewhere that it is illegal to take a sword out of Japan that was bought there? Or is this just for certain types of swords? Or just wrong?
