I pray Wiwingti gets a better price than the $399 Hanwei is listing.... I tried looking at various Hanwei items with an MSRP of 399 to see what they went for retail at Wiwingti thinking there might be some sort of formula to tell me what this sword will sell for but if there is one I couldn't figure it out, the prices are all over the place. (admittedly my search was less than exhausting) They are all consistently less than MSRP though so I think you can safely assume it'll be less $399.

I know Marc will have it lower, I've been debating e-mailing him to ask what he might be retailing it for. Actually, I think I shall. BRB, off to facebook.
[edit] Message sent to Marc (Wiwingti). I'll let y'all know what he says.

Looks good... I most likely will pick one of these up... hope Hanwei can manage to make it out of the box sharp like their Katana, rather then dull as a butter knife like their euro swords.

AMEN, dude. if you have seen my video of the hanwei dadao on my review site reviews.swords.com/hanwei-dadao-in-review/ you will see that it was very doggone sharp straight out of box, in fact there is a pic where i sliced the box with it.

They just better not send out dull cutting Jian. Does Slasher take lay-away payments?

Where as my DaDao was dull... as was my Dao, my Celtic Sword, My Solingen Rapier, My TinkerLine Fullered Bastard Sword, My Practical Jian, My Scotish Basket Hilt, My... ...well, the list goes on. In the past two years I have owned around 20 Hanwei Non Katana, not a single one of them cutting sharp out of the box... and I have seen/handled somewhere around another 70-80 Hanwei Non katana... not a single one sharp enough to cut out of the box. VERY disapointing. Cold Steel, Kris Cutlery, Gen 2, Valiant Armoury... they have all been out of the box cutting sharp for me... Hanwei, never. Unless it was a Katana. I have owned and handled many Hanwei Katana, ALL sharp. I just don't get it.

Hanwei feels, as a matter of corporate policy, that anyone who purchases a sword other than a katana is a "potentially dangerous ruffian" and "not to be trusted with a sharp blade." It's in their mission statement, on page one of their catalog. Yes, I'm kidding, before I start some weird Internet rumor.

Funny, most of the gang bangers I know would rather have katanas. Don't you know those things deflect bullets and chop armored cars in half

Oh yeah, I almost forgot about that one. Don't they sell that in a gift set with the Jian that you can use as a belt?

Yeah, one three inch scar down in that area is enough.

www.chinese-swords-guide.com/hanwei-swords.htmlcheck out the stats of the sword on Linda Heenan's site. compare with www.casiberia.com/product_details.asp?id=SH2429&mg=1Looks like Hanwei/CASiberia made the cardinal error of measuring the blade from the front of the guard. 29"+8.5" grip = 37.5"...leaving 2" which is average length of a guard. Proper measurement of the is from the base of the blade or where rear part of guard meets the grip handle. This avoids errors in measuring if swords have varying guard lengths which is what would happen if you measure from front of the guard. That grips is also very long for a jian. 31" long blade is near the maximum of historical jian blades. The fact that the sword weighs around 2lbs would also support this. So for beginners and persons who prefer a shorter more maneuverable sword this does not seem to be ideal. For all you long jian fans, this sword is ideal and is historical, the sword was based on an antique example of a large/long jian.
