Hey fellas. A ton has changed since we last got serious about me making these swords. Since then I have purchased some better tools and I have done some big blade orders. I am more motivated and better tooled so lets do this.
I am game, but I just got back from fishing for a week in the OBX so you gotta give me some time to catch up.

Hey Matt! Glad your back. Have your ears been burning? I hope you had a good vacation. After you have read both threads let us know what you think.

I am with US.
Hi Matt. Welcome home. And welcome back to WORK muahahaha !
Would be cool if you could post back in the area what is doable in the price range and if a larger sword as the measures choosen by Brendan for cost effectiveness is possible.
Regards

Brendan seems to have a good grip on how we do things.
I think we can do something with a fuller and a full grind in the price range. I was hoping we could do a strait blade for the $350 with a fuller and full diamond grind and do a leaf set up the same way for the $450 price mark. If you look at the prototype sword that was reviewed we could do that with a fuller and a full grind for $350. We can tweak the hilt a little bit.
At this price I would prefer to stick with our standard leather wrap which is quite nice in the hand. If you guys insist on a wood handle then I would have to explore whats doable but it can def be done.
The current popular leaf design in the design thread is shorter the 32" but we could stretch it out and make it work.
I have said this for a year now...I am willing to work with you because I want to do this project. Some things that would never work on a retail order can be done here becuase of the number of pieces.

I have said before and will say again... I'm ALL for the SBG Fantasy Sword you guys already made... or something very much like it. I think you should stick with the wrap you guys are comfortable with... I personally like the look of it, I think it looks very rustic and handy... but anyone who does not like it, re-wrapping a grip is one of the simplest things to change, and lots of people have different ideas on what works for them. We would not be likely to get universal agreement on a grip anyway... so let each customer change their however they wish when they get the sword.

I agree. Keep the grip simple to keep cost down. If someone wants a different grip they can get it customized.

Chris, thanks for posting- I'm interested to see if this is what they're going to go with. No doubt, it is one cool looking sword; love the tatted guy who did the review, he lives near my job! lol

The leather wrapped grip is surprisingly comfortable and grippy. I wasn't sure what to think when I first saw it was leather wrapped directly over the tang, but the thick hide is very secure and the thin profile of the grip makes sure you always know your edge alignment. I think it would be awesome to revive the original sword in some form or fashion; I'd have to see if it was something fairly upgraded before I'd buy though... seeing as I can't use two of them at the same time.

Longer grip? Leaf Blade? Something like that first SBG fantasy sword? I might be retracting my no vote here pretty soon

I must say that the leather wrap on the tang is comfortable and grippy and very serviceable and aesthetically pleasing to me......not cheap feeling or looking at all.....gives the blade a very serious, down to business look and feel.... at least on the BKS sword that I already have.

Yea some people get on us saying how we use a cheap grip option but they dont realize how much we pay for that leather. It is super nice leather. Not cheap stuff. Over the years we have tried a number grip options and this is the best for heavy use. It is easy to replace if needed. We get 15 year old swords in all the time to be cleaned up or something and they almost always have the original grip. These are swords used almost daily. We use two leather slabs as a base then wrap over the slabs. People get into historicaly accurate debates all the time about the spiral wrap but there are tons of examples of such a grip. Besides if its a hand and a half leafblade I think we have some historical room to play

I didn't even realize that when I first saw it...I had to go back and look again.
Kthulu, I'll take you up on that one day, when things calm down on the job front.
