Ok, so since I'm not going to be buying any new blades for awhile, I wanted to throw out a question. I have a couple more Allan foundry axes I could review, but I didn't want to flood this board with them and get folks burned out on a bunch of axe reviews. So, is there any interest to seeing more of these, or no?

Yes, I would be interested.
I also think you should give that weird looking cold steel axe a go, when you're buying again.

Don't see why not. As long as something hasn't been reviewed yet who cares if it's not "brand new"? I personally would be interested in reviews of the Viking Bearded or British belt axes, if you have them.

I'd like to see em... I'm looking to pick up a good hand axe that could be fought with as an off hand weapon but also throw well. I hear good things about Allen Foundry, so I'd love to get your opinions... you OBVIOUSLY know your stuff about axes.

Obviously I've been lax about looking at your revues on Axes, but yes, having a good Axe is a good thing, and knowing which ones to get and where, cant go wrong there....Continue Avery, good work....SanMarc.

Yes, more axes...they're medieval weapons too! And incredibly handy, no pun intended- so bring on the reviews!
I'd like to see reviews on some of the larger war axes like the Danish ones.

Norse warriors typically would have carried an axe with them, correct? They were very useful weapons in combat, as well as reliable tools. What kind of axe would a norse warrior have worn at his side as a backup weapon? I'm talking about one handed axes.

Avery, this is the one I was referring to: www.coldsteel.com/badaxe.htmlLooks...rather weird, but there's a video of them being thrown that was pretty interesting. M. In a word, no. But let me explain my view. First a positive. Cold steel offers a lifetime guarentee on any product they sell.... except the handles. Lets face it, when you throw axes, eventually you break a handle. Thing is, with these handles, unless you can make your own, can only be bought from CS. And these handles will break before long. See how the handle is tapered to fit in the eye, and then riveted on? That means the is not only thinner at the point where it absorbs impact, but also has holes in it. As for the whole "can be thrown from virtually any position" statement, any double bit axe will perform the same or better. Now, to the axehead. I will say this, the cheeks of the axes are very thin, so it'll stick with relative ease. And the edge does hold well against chipping and rolling. Now, my biggest issue with these axes. Thowing in general. The bulb at the end of of the handle restricts how you release. Bear in mind all this is only relative to my throwing stlye. You may find that you love this axe, 'cause they are durable and tough...except the handles. Of course I don't care for the way they look either. The one I tried, I threw for a couple of hours, trying to like it, but just couldn't. Hope you keep the reviews coming. Funny ,as a kid I was always told to stop throwing sharp things, now close to 60 yrs, I'm starting to throw things again. Thanks Avery!! Karma for you ;D watched your videos,Great stuff! Thanks wisky, thats much appreciated. If I can ever get things rolling again, I plan to do some more videos. And my parents gave up telling me when I was ten. Hehehe, but trust me, my dad had no room to admonish. Yes, more axes...they're medieval weapons too! And incredibly handy, no pun intended- so bring on the reviews! I'd like to see reviews on some of the larger war axes like the Danish ones. I'll have one coming in the next few months Ebon. Norse warriors typically would have carried an axe with them, correct? Jonathan, most would have carried something like this. An all purpose tool. /index.cgi?board=otherweaponreviews&action=display&thread=11608

Is that 410 stainless steel? For $45, that seems like a steal.

But then again, heres a direct qoute from Ragnars. Allan Foundry 'hawks are cast in America from tough cutlery grade 410 steel. They are exceptionally clean castings. The styles are accurately taken from surviving museum pieces. They come with a stained hickory or ash handle, sharpened and ready to use. The 410 will hold something of an edge for casual camp chores, yet is tough enough for throwing. Heres a link. www.ragweedforge.com/ThrowingCatalog.html

That is a very low price for an axe of that quality, wouldn't you agree? I'm curious about the price of shipping.
