Yeah, I'm working on a review right now of an Allan axe that I haven't seen on the market for over a year. Ragnar doesn't even sell it anymore. I hate to review something that isn't readily available, but these in particular are worth the effort.

I like traditional weapons. You know, things that are made by honest, hard-working men. I think that axes fall into that category.

Yeah, Rags is a great guy. He's always been stand up and a straight shooter. I've been recommending him to people for years when they want their first axe. He's told me that when Paul Allan retires, he'll probaly stop selling axes. A damn shame. ;D I spoke to Rags last Friday, placed an order that was was shipped same day. They arrived to-day,one weeks time , no problem with customs. Great service, axes are real sharp. The axes have good balance and look REAL MENACING ,Vikings I'm sure would be proud of these axes.. Thanks for your heads-up on these Avery . These are gems

He thinks that may be a record for a Canadian delivery. Not to many people like to ship here. I hope that changes!!Miss out on a lot of deals. "Rags" great to deal with him, nice guy, hope to do it again. Thanks for asking ,and your sound advice. Very Happy

There are some really great axes on that site. I would still personally love to get my hands on one of Jim Hrisoulas axes. No point me buying any weapons for a while I am moving premises so nowhere to put them or use them.

Perhaps you could do a review? @ Wraith - no problem man. Just have'em shipped to me. I would take on such a burden of keeping your axes while you move.

Avery: What would be the best axe for someone who has some knowledge of throwing but was using really crappy axes and hasn't done it for a while. Since throwing in the past my strength and general well being has degraded so I would imagine something light would probably be the best option. What do you think of hanwei's axes in terms of throwability? Marc has some great deals on these, do you know anything about the Mammen axe and its throwability?

I wasn't really impressed with the handle on the hanwei I bought, but the weight was light and good for easy throwing. The mamman axe is over a pound in weight, with a 17" handle, it is a good thrower. The Pete Allan " Apache" weighs in at 12oz's, thats about as light as I like to get. Even if you don't go with an Allan axe, I'd say something between 12 - 14oz with a handle of around 18-19" would work out pretty good for ya. If you do go with a Hanwei, I would be very interested in seeing a review.

I've been considering a mammen, maybe when I get my new place and my feet back under me so to speak. I have been looking for an axe for throwing and fighting (both at once? ) ever since my New Varangian Guard days, and the mammen, with it's superb looking norse design is right up there. That and the trondheim sword are on my list for eventually, the detailing on the trondheim and the look of the steel is one of those "hard to pass up" swords.

The viking belt axe and the hanwei throwing axe look the best.

The viking belt axe and the hanwei throwing axe look the best. Maybe so... but I bet that Allen Foundry axe with the fransiscan style head is the best thrower by far.

@ Wiskey- What do you think about the handle on the Hanwei? I have the same axe and wasn't real impressed with handle. @ Wraith- if you get the Mamman before I do, I expect a review!

Did not care for the handle on the Hanwei, shapes not right for my hand, though I may get used to it? Little play in the head to .I think the picture say's it all!! [That thousand word thing]. You were not wrong about these, get them while you can!! I'm building a stand this week , try them out for real. Keep the reviews coming there very interesting and fun.

@ Wraith- if you get the Mamman before I do, I expect a review! I have one of these... its very pretty with the norse runes and whatnot on the axe head, but the axe itself is subpar and the handle, as you would expect, sucks.

The heads are solid, but the eye opening could use alot of work. You have any interest in selling the one you have? I'd rather pick one up second hand than try one at full price.
