Jonathan, if you order from Ragnar the shipping cost per order is $6.00. Not per item, per order (unless its a huge order). Rags is a good guy and I recommend him to anyone. I haven't dealt with "track of the wolf", so I can't vouch for their customer service.

The man is winding down, and eventually will stop all together. I'm not sure when he'll stop, but I do know that some of his axes are increasingly harder to find. The viking bearded is one that is always backlogged.

That isn't good for me. I want it, but it isn't a priority right now. That is a great deal, though.

Avery, I've been meaning to ask, are you into two-handed/two bladed axe throwing at all? I'd kind of like to see some of that!

Yeah, I've done both full length and half length handles on a double bit. I'll see if I can work that into a video. The way things are, I may never do another one. Everytime I plan on shooting one, something always happens. I've got so many request for different types of throws that I really need to get on the ball.

Are you sure that the Allen's foundaries axe would be a one handed axe designed for combat?

Are you sure that the Allen's foundaries axe would be a one handed axe designed for combat? mmmmmm, honestly I would have to say they arn't designed to be more than what they are. And what they are designed to be is axeheads mounted to a friction fitted handle and made from a durable steel alloy. I'm afraid I don't really understand your question.

I apologize for that poorly worded question. I meant to ask you if the type of viking axe would have been used more as a tool or as a weapon. For instance, it seems like it is more suited to chopping wood and the like, since the handle is short. I may be wrong, and perhaps my question is still unclear. Vikings used axes as primary weapons more often than swords. Two handed axes were used, but the shield was obviously extremely important for a warrior's survival, so if the viking was poor and couldn't afford a sword, he would have wanted a single handed axe. This axe gives me the impression that it's short reach would have been a liability in combat. Is that better?

This axe gives me the impression that it's short reach would have been a liability in combat. Is that better? I think I uderstand what your asking now. Yes, Vikings weilded large two and one handed axes, which were great for hooking sheilds and yanking them back thus creating an opening. And as Eversberg said, the spear would've been used first in most cases. The type of axes I generally prefer are whats commonly called belt axes. These types of axes were basicly very short range or close quarters combat. Consider this. If you are in a hallway that has a low ceiling, which would you use, a large 2 handed axe, a 30" sword, or a seax and/or a 16" belt axe? So its really a matter of what type of combat we're talking about. Even on a battlefield, these shortaxes were carried as a backup weapon, but no they weren't used for a primary weapon on a regular basis. A very good question, indeed.

That makes sense. What kind of one handed axes would have been used as a primary weapon if the spear was not used?

Thank you for all of the priceless information, Avery. You certainly are a master of axes. Now, if only I could make up my mind on a few swords...

Pick 2. Flip coin. If the result gives you any apprehension, then you know to go with the other full stop.

What if they all give me apprehension? Some of the greatest battles in history were lost due to indecision more than the wrong decision. Oh and thanks for the compliment, but I am nowhere near a master. Just happen to know a thing or three.

You know enough that when compared to me, you are a master. My indecision is annoying me, but I might be closer to making a final choice. The past few days I have found myself thinking about the H/T viking. I am a big fan of norse related things, although I have a very limited amount of knowledge in that subject, and I believe that I want that sword a lot. This is why that I will most likely end up with the Viking. As for the other sword, I am still unsure. It is almost a three - way tie between the H/T EMSHS and Norman, and the VA LS.

I'm always ready for a good axe review. Bring 'em on. Good to see that other folks appreciate the sheer awesomeness of Ragnar and his Ragweed Forge. I ordered a bunch of Moras from him a couple years ago. With his flat shipping fee ($5 at that time), you just can't find a better value. Plus, I recieved my knives in 2 days. Two days from NY to AZ! How does he do that? ;D

Yeah, Rags is a great guy. He's always been stand up and a straight shooter. I've been recommending him to people for years when they want their first axe. He's told me that when Paul Allan retires, he'll probaly stop selling axes. A damn shame.
