The 2 degrees of separation in New Zealand theory is deteriorating rapidly HA! Oddly enough, I know Barrie Osborne really well.

You can not kill a Balrog with a Chevy Cobalt. Something to consider. Something else to consider is that all 3 times Tolkien tells us about a balrog getting killed the guy who does it ends up dead as well, so I think I'll just stick to orcs, which are pretty easy to run over, thanks. Nice work on that ranger sword there. If you're thinking of using the eco-flo dye I'd recommend thier "emerald green," which is what I used for my Windlass type XIV here. Yes, Gandalf did pass out of thought and time after defeating the Balrog in Moria, but he returned more powerful than before. Since I am not an Istari, and have no direct line to the gods, I would rather go out battling a Balrog and have them say "That was awesome, he croaked a demon of the ancient world, we shall not let him pass into oblivion" versus crashing a subcompact into Grond, and having them say "WTF was he thinking, what a hamhead"

Kinda back to the topic: I know that Tolkien did some paintings and drawings based on middle earth, did any of them ever show the character's weapons? It would be pretty cool to get a replica made based on whatever it was that Tolkien pictured for the swords and knives.

Several have been made from descriptions in the text, and of course there are representations made based on the movie props, but as far as any reproductions based on Tolkiens art, or any of the older LOTR art, I do not know. Very good idea, but one would have to be careful of running afoul of the Tolkien estate I would think, I could be wrong. Maybe a tribute to Tolkiens original vision as opposed to our interpretation of what his vision was would be a good idea.

The only way to find out would be to contact his son.

New member here,i thonght i'd share my thoughts on Pete Lyons Anduril as i have puchased one.
The LOTR opened my eyes to how beautiful a sword can be and since have dreamed of having the fully functional hero sword they used for close ups.
The design weta and peter lyon adopted for Anduril seems deeply rooted in tranditional european longsword design.Theres nothing about Anduril apart from the runes etched on the fuller that shouts fantasy which is another reason why peters swords captured the imagination of a new breed of sword enthusiast.
It's no accident Peter and weta have achieved the success they have today, its through there skill, imagination and hard work. They are the best and Anduril is to me the most beautiful sword in existants. The fuller and taper of the blade is where peter performs his magic.Depending on lighting the fuller can seem very deep or wafer thin. Also he is still even now studying and learning about his art. Here he is doing research in the uk link-
Also a vid from me trying to show how beutiful Andurils blade is. link-

B-E-A-UTIFUL. You must take pictures. Lots and lots of picture. In high quality. And daylight. Oh and a (non-cutting?) review. I'd hate to damage something so pretty AND expensive. Heh, I can't even get into the whole debate of whether or not that price is worth it. I can't even imagine having that much money to spend.
And yeah, basing something off of Tolkien's art would be awesome! 'Cept I've never really seen his art, like, at all (I think)

wow col403 you are one lucky whatsit! Welcome to the Forum! How does she feel in the hand? Feels great to hold one handed but you need 2 to swing her around. You could fell a tree with this baby lol. the blade is very flexable which i think makes it more suited to cutting blows as apposed to thrusts. The blade has a narrow fuller and from the fuller to edge is hollow ground so alot of work has gone into getting excess weight out of the blade.I'm pretty sure there is distal taper from the hilt to point but i have no tool to varify that. my opinion is it is a powerful sword because of size and overall weight. Each sword is made with a paticular mission in mind and this one is intended for powerful blows no doubt about it. Knights in armour wouldn't like you turning up to battle them with Anduril, just ask sauron lol. thanks for the welcome also and happy new year to all!

To me yes but im no millionaire.I have a slighty above average income but save up for what i like. From order to final payment was around 4-6 months so i had time to get the money together.I think anyone could have afforded her if you are willing to sacrifice other thing you want to buy I prefer quality over quantity and as each day goes by i enjoy anduril being here more and more.i love it. Millions of people around the world have seen it and i am honoured to have had the chance with only 9 others to have one for myself.

Fortune smiles upon you, good man. Mr. Lyon's Anduril is indeed one of the most beautiful blades that I have seen. I imagine that gazing upon it in-person would be breath-taking.

Kudos to you Col403. I hope she never leaves you. What a piece of eternal art. Did you get it sharp, and what other options did you get it with? I look forward to all the photos, though hopefully I'm off dialup by then...

I'd still rather buy 8 or 9 swords off Bren for the money you spent but to each his own, interesting looking blade, not really my cup of tea and not really all it is cracked up to be, in my opinion not worth 9 grand.

I believe they justify the price by the blades exclusivity.
IF I had the disposable income to feed my LOTR fascination, I would probably try to acquire one.

Beautiful sword Col. The UC Narsil was my first sword and though I broke it before I knew anything about what makes a sword functional, I still love the look of it and would love to own a functional version...that hollow grind really adds to the beauty! I was wondering how he did the pommel, is it threaded or was he able to peen it in the opening of the pommel somehow?

Shouldn't it be "mumak turds" since "mumakil" is the plural?
