Still cordially, it was a ZZ Top tune that came to my mind when this started.
When you get up in the morning and the light is hurt your head The first thing you do when you get up out of bed Is hit that streets a-runnin and try to beat the masses And go get yourself some cheap sunglasses Oh yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah
Spied a little thing and I followed her all night In a funky fine levis and her sweaters kind of tight She had a west coast strut that was as sweet as molases But what really knocked me out was her cheap sunglasses Oh yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah <insert devil music segway>
</insert devil music segway> Now go out and get yourself some big black frames With the glass so dark thay wont even know your name And the choice is up to you cause they come in two classes: Rhinestone shades or cheap sunglasses Oh yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah
Cheers

Anyone who voted "yes" here is officially being silly and reactionary because I say so. So there.

Is the poll question "do you like the new forum?" Or is it "do you miss the old forum?" Thanks, Jonathan Yes vote means ditch the new design No vote means dont ditch the new design, Myself, I can't help but wonder if one might be able to choose for oneself on profile options... once the renovation is complete...

Change happens whether we will it or no...sometimes for the good, sometimes for the bad. Since the change has already occurred, I'm sure some of us will not be too pleased with the new layout and others will. For my part, it is no different to me- it just looks different, the feel's the same, the posters are still the same people and the subject is still the same.

As to signatures, they are easy to avoid in electing not to view them. The karma (thankfuly)is elective as well but it amounts for much more than 50% of the posts. Many posts here offer 0% additional information aside from the plus one posts. Cordially Glen Again with the disparaging remarks Glen... we are the fast food of the sword world, and now over 50% of the posts here are 'karma' related and many offer nothing but +1. I think your estimate on karma related posts is way, WAY off... and again, your tone is very condescending. I ask why you seem to show up and post here so often if you think so little of it (and us) here?

As the the 'smite' buttons return... I've long believed if your going to use any karma related system on a forum such as this, doing so without a smite option is pointless. Praise without critique is pointless to me... it would be better to have no system at all (and many chose to opt out for this reason) then to have a system that allows for back-patting but not for finger pointing, in my mind. Yes, smite can be misused... as can karma. However... in life... people do things people like, and things people don't like. If you subscribe to a theory of 'community opinion' which is what the Karma system is, then you must, in my view, allow that community to reflect displeasure as well as praise. So... I'd rather see the smite stay, if the karma system exists at all.

Also optional is the type of drivel some choose to go on about someone elses perspective. My point regarding the the karma system as it is exactly a reason to ignore those posts as little more than board fodder. Signatures as well. Do a count for oneself if they care to.
Cheers

I think that the text in the posts could not really be a problem as it is for the moment? Black against light yellow, as about as good as it gets regarding easy/difficult to read. The contrast on other smaller texts links etc I assume, if it is like it usually are, is easily adjustable(?) and something you adjust in the finish when the overall design is ready. Not so much to do with the main design.
As for what is easier to read most people, according to tests, perhaps surprisingly enough don´t feel that black on white, or the reversed, is the most easily recognisable contrast, but very dark blue on light yellow/beige. That is also the printed color combination that is first detected on distance and more restful for the eyes than black and white, according to they who says they know.
Which background is the best for pictures I think depends entirely on what kind of picture it is. If it is a dark picture or light picture, high contrast low contrast and so on. its hard to generalize. A picture in darker tones for example tend to be to very dark with light background, and perhaps more or less unreadible on white. A.s.o. etc.. but plain, patterns behind pictuers could be experienced as distracting.
As for the esthetics.. it´s a matter of how I choose to see it and also a matter of what I associate it with. Honestly... It´s not bad imo. But the forum banner that is right now... would not be my choice to this background.

If we're going to keep the smite button then PLEASE let us see who smote us! I'm sick of this "Did you smite me?" crap!

Hey guys, calm down. Paul has said that he's in the process of changing things around, and when a new format gets put up it tends to make things a little whacky for a bit. The return of the smite button, the loss of certain features - all of this is getting sorted out. So take some advice from the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and Don't Panic.
As far as the side arguments flaring up here goes - knock it off. Veiled insults/smug superiority - any kind of hostility - is not welcome.

In any case, I think the background is rather pretty and whoever made it should feel good about it.

I like having the smite button back. I have missed it so. Not that I have had a reason to use it yet, but I had several while it was gone...

I like the new layout as it gives this forum more edge, and feels more professional and sophisticated. And also more unique, which represents this forum well. Although I could do without the smite button. It conjures more confrontation and such, as it is not always used properly. Most could do without being smited for doing something against another's way of life. Uniqueness lies in the message told, not the wrapping in which it is presented. Agreed, but a unique blade should have unique fittings.

A unique blade should be left in shirasaya lest its quality be overlooked for a silly wrap job or funky tsuba. (or whatever the non-japanese equivalent might be )

I'm undecided... When I first saw the change, I imediately voted 'yes' in horror. Now I almost wish I could take that back. I don't like the new layout yet, but if the virtually invisible lines are darkened, and a few other 'minor' things adjusted... I think we'll be ok, LOL! ;D All in all, I say that we trust Paul, and give are opinions AFTER, and only after, he says that the renovations are complete. That would be the time for 'tweaking', as it were. Just my $0.02. -Slayer

At first I was not a fan of the new look at all but now that its been a few days I realise that I actually kinda like the new look. That said I would make the quote boxes black instead of white.
