I agree Shadow, this sword and the other one from the movie were the first swords that ever really made me think "Wow, I want one of those!" Still no response from Universal, been almost three weeks I got the blade normalized and did all the draw filing. Here's a couple pics of it after filing. I did the second normalizing this morning. The blade is now awaiting the third normalization in an hour or so. Also some pics of the new waxes from the second set of molds. These are the pommels ready to be gated onto a cup and then off out to the slurry room. Here are a pair of crosses from the new mold. The tricky thing about the crosses is that I not only wanted a space cast in them to snugly fit the tang and ricasso, but I also wanted to make them slightly hollow to reduce weight. Making them solid with a void in them the right size for the tang/ricasso is no big deal. Getting them hollow in addition to that took a bit of planning.

So you got it hollow? Awesome work man. They look so super hot and juicy. The blade looks awesome too. Well done!! (On the side what does that blade blank weigh now?)
I've been working on my swords too long. I just looked and the keyboard and was surprised that they weren't runes (sorta did a double take).... hahaha

Hey Brendan, Yeah they'll be hollow but only just. They'll still be pretty thick walled and heavy, but it shaved off some of the extra weight. I've still got a good bit of filing and sanding to do but the blade weight probably won't change a whole lot. I don't have an accurate scale for weights over one pound or under ten pounds but it seems to be at around 3 pounds right now. That's one heavy blade! You should get some rune stickers to cover your keyboard with Thanks enkidu It's fun for me to see this coming together too. Thanks Paladin, hey weren't you going to send me a sword idea you had? Thanks gaffer! It's true, I'm so bright my mom called me sun Thanks LPBoyle! Don't get any on ya. Thanks and you're welcome Rob, it's nice to get so much positive feedback! Thanks stonehart ;D Glad you like it so far!

Hey LPBoyle, I'm not hard to find, I think my address is on my website Silly kidcasanova, you're not supposed to tell me before you come steal it. Then when I notice it missing I'll know where to go and steal it back from, that's no way to get into thievery

Yeah, but I don't live in FL anymore and without an auto at the moment 'tis a bit too far for me to travel.

Hey LPBoyle, you'll never be a proper thief with that kind of lazy attitude Hid it! Kidcasanova, you're gonna steal it and then just hide it! That won't do at all. If you're gonna bother to steal it, you really ought to be using it. You'll have to hurry though. I'm packing it up to ship off to LPBoyle's neighbor so he can steal it from there without whining about travel arrangements ;D Thanks Matt! Such high praise is a real honor. Glad you like it! Hey Brendan, thanks for the plug! The heat treat on the blade is all done. I put it through three normalization cycles then did the hardening and quench, then tempered for two hours, then another 1/2 hour a couple days later. The longer temper and the clamping between the steel plates was at Brendan's suggestion. It gets clamped between the plates after each normalization and after the marquench so I don't have to mess around with getting the blade perfectly straight, it cools straight. I also added in the figure 8 motion during the quench that Sam suggested. Here's a boring vid of the quench. My camera broke so I had to use my GF's camera. I didn't realize it takes videos in quicktime which I can't edit on my computer. So the vid is no frills.
