What's Going on next?Well, I decided I might as well knock together my longsword plan. I can't let BB have all the toys. It's going to be 47" long, with a 34" blade, and very much like my sketch from way back there <- These bronzes are worth a pretty penny and I had considered just holding them til someone orders a piece, but I decided to spoil myself with a toy to play with - decadent I know. This will be up for sale of course. I can always make another later. It's gonna have serious distal taper, the fullers are bigger, and there's much more profile taper, though the Forte is broader. Hopefully I can keep the weight and balance in check with these geometries. I just wanted it big. To me the original one was nice, but a little tame. It should be fun. The blade blank is done. And being all impatient I had to place the bronzes on it and get a gist for how it's goin to look. I'll know more tomorrow about the expectedweight and such once I grind in the bevels and so forth.

Wow Brenno that is tasty nice! I really like it and you know what i am like for my Conan swords. I'm not so keen on the finish of the Bronzes at the mo looking at the blade and furniture fitted but then you haven't got the grip complete yet. I know it's all business mate but i know i couldn't part with it. I only wish i has the sapre cash coz i'd be ordering now . Maybe one day hey?

Hey Brendan, that looks better than the sketch did. I had forgotten that one of the many small changes I made was to place the langets a bit closer together to cut down on the blade width and weight. I think that makes your design look better than it did in the original mock-up with the Albion parts. Looks really good! Nial, Those bronze parts are in their bare bead-blasted finish and haven't received their final finish yet. They won't look like that when He's done with them

Weight on the longsword is shaping up to be only 3oz heavier than the Barbarian Model. Maybe Less The distal taper makes a big difference. BB - I think the langettes will spread a little when the guard is installed, yes? Yours looks a little wider. But yep, now you mention it the narrower ricasso flows great with the type XVI shape blade that I did. Nial the surface is Bead Blasted for now, as BB mentioned. On the movie swords it can be seen to be quite a rough finish. But I will be bringing up all the raised surfaces to a mirror polish and then blacking it (I think). Sooo, unlike any of the others. The Texture of the Albion:

Sure BB,Brendan i understand the bronzes are still in their raw state and you have told me Brenno mate you were gonna try a new finish for them. I don't realy dislike them now only that they looked goldy. I can't wait to see it finished. I really like the way the blade looks too at the mo in that very rough unfinished state like it's been in a few battles. I think you guy's are like evil santa's you get all the guy's to behave well, get 'em to write out there sword wishlists then produce these type of toys...but only for yourselves.haha! ;D

Hey Brendan, Yeah, the langets will spread quite a bit as you wedge the cross onto the blade. Mine is on there super tight. Or you could leave them a little closer together and narrow the ricasso a bit, maybe loose that 3 oz. It looks perfect where it is laying on top of the unfinished blade! Thanks slackitude Ha, that's funny Nial! We're like, "what swords does everyone want? Cool, we'll make some... for ourselves! ;D

In between wrestling my damn longsword blade through it's heat treatment today (I remember why I stopped doing long swords :X) I had some time to polish up the atlantean parts. Sanded them through 240>400>800 grit. Then I blacked them. Then I polished them on a buffing wheel. Man they looked great with the black in behind and the polished bronxe out front. As good as it looked I wanted to colour them just a bit, So then I put them in a gentle wash of very diluted gun blue. It took 5 or 10 minutes but as I watched they went to more and more beautiful colours. They started to take on a beautiful coppery hue. I had to stop myself before they got too dark. They look just amazing. I took this phot in the sun but it does no justice to the look at all - you can't even see the chromey polished surface, or the colour - I shouldn't bother even posting it coz they don't look like that at all . When the sword is finished I'll get a heap of better photos which will hopefully show the polish and the hue of the metal. I gotta say it was well worth the hour or so it took to sand back all the raised and available surface. I also took a bit of the free time to play on the lathe and shape out this pommel. I wonder if anyone has any ideas of what I could make with it?

Oh, Brendan, you tease!!! A Fable Blades Ranger sword?! I might faint....
Amazing job with the bronzes, they look fantastic now, but I'll believe you that they look better in person. I can't wait to see what they're like finished.
Incredible work, man.

Wow Bendan mate those bronzes look nice even though like you say the pics do them no credit. I haven't seen any bronzrs that look like that and as you say they are blued to. I am really only used to the lovely dark browns and the occasional dark green hues that come to bronze with age. I love blued metal though so i can't wait to see it finished. I keep loging in here everyday My first thoughts on the pommel was aragorn's ranger sword...then i just read Lunarman's reply and and that confirmed it for me so that's my guess too.

That pommel would also look nice on a pull chain for a hanging lamp. Maybe Brendan is striking out in an entirely new direction...

Here you go people. A Fable-ized version of the Atlantean Sword: EVEN KINGS DIEShe's 45.5" long overall - that's around 6" longer than the moviesword, and with an extra 4.5" on the cutting edge. Weight was brought in at only 3oz more than the Barbarian model we did, mainly due to distal and profile tapering. Also of note I have sanded back the bronzes to give a high polish to the raised surfaces, before giving a medium patina. Most bronzes are seen left with a textured surface finish. For all the big photos, pricing and story check it out here: www.fableblades.com/Even%20Kings%20Die.htmlThe Ricasso is engraved with Ancient Greek Lettering: EVEN KINGS DIE; I SHALL LIVE ON Spec Sheet: Overall Weight: 2995g (6lb 9oz) Overall Length: 1155mm (45.5”) Blade Length Incl. Ricasso: 825mm (32.5”) Blade Length – Edge: 635mm (25”) Grip Length -Timber: 215mm (8.5”) Grip Timber: Eucalypt Burl + Riser of Tasmanian Blackwood. Point Of Balance: 1” from guard Centre Of Percussion: Around 48cm (19”) from guard Hilt Node of Percussion: Just in front of Blackwood Riser Blade Thickness: 6mm at ricasso> 3.5mm at and of fuller > 2.4mm at 1" from tip. Steel: 9260 Spring Steel marquenched and twice tempered to give hardness of 50Rc. Teaser Pics: And here's a scaled illustrative comparison to the other two swords:
