Okay so this is related to the what to never EVER do with a sword thread that got locked. Hopefully this will do a bit better as there is a cute dog involved....
I have some serious issues with what he is teaching about the sword arts....

Well, I appreciate his sense of humor. Sort of.
Didn't know the fellow was (South) Korean.

If you go read the comments from his followers I think this video is moot.
And frankly, he's "apologized" for enough things that he should know better by now than to do completely dangerous crap, over and over like he does.
This video and all his other videos are just pointless in every respect.

Unfortunately he´s not joking about using a sword in that manner. He honestly thinks that the natural feeling baseball swing is not only the proper way to use a sword...but the best way .

Of course he isn't, he also wasn't joking when he said that a Paul chen ninja-to was a family heirloom that has been passed down through his family. I don't understand why people actually believe in this guy's techniques; it boggles the mind.

I'm going to keep my mouth shut about this one otherwise it'll seem as though I'm starting to agree with Bishop about more than just a few things...

Why not open a separate section on 101 reasons i need to bash Choson ninja, that way the rest of us who come here for information, education & an interest in swords don't keep stumbling over this kind of thread. Quite frankly their are many sites out their that would appreciate this added to their collection but i don't come here for that.
This site is quickly becoming a hostile place to be unless one is willing to follow the masses or is in with a particular group which is a dam shame really. Just my 2c worth.

This site is quickly becoming a hostile place to be unless one is willing to follow the masses or is in with a particular group which is a dam shame really. Just my 2c worth. Sorry. I read this thread and while I did read some posts disagreeing with the gentleman in question, I failed to find any hostility. Unless you mean disagreeing strongly with someone as being hostile? I really don't see that as hostile. It would be a boring world if we all agreed on everything, wouldn't it? Of course I say that with respect and lack of hostility.

Spud gas a point. I'm pretty damn tired of "Chosin ninja am BAD MAN" threads and they seem to have a way of popping up. Even threads that have nothing to do with him eventually turn over.
Oh and just for the record, saying the whole line of "If you can't say anything nice," etc., totally voids the principle. Voicing that you will not voice? Really? Why not just not say anything?
"If you don't want to see it, don't read it"
While I'd typically agree with this, it doesn't really apply in a forum environment, where ultimately nobody ever knows what they will see until they have seen it. I came here to see what the fellow in question (under fire?) had to say about the accusations (flaming?) directed at him, and now I see more.
Enough really can be enough, you know.

Of course it voids the principle, that was the point....there are alot of things I could say, but I think most of them have already been said,... and I agree with you on the whole "bashing popping up". I think it would be beneficial to ignore this man, he is not a member of this forum and therefore can't defend his actions, and the threads that spring up around him often disentergrate rapidly.

Thank you Insane for your thoughts, although the same could be said about viewing his videos.
ChrisA, thank you also Sir, I didn't ask for nor ever expect "everyone" to agree on the same thing. I simply posted an opinion about how tiresome the frequency of Greg's names keeps popping up & always used as a whipping post, deservedly or not.
Sorry if you took my post to imply this thread was breaking the hostility rules but that's not what i said, although some times these things can become borderline quickly.
randomnobody, thank you also for seeing my post at face value & also explaining it a little better then myself.

I planned on staying quiet on this thing.... but , me and my big mouth....
I am a huge hater of bash so-and-so-threads... I am. In fact a few months ago, I made some very unpopular stands against similar threads like the sword baseball thread, and other similar threads...
The difference to me, in Choson Ninja and these other threads , is that this guy is claiming to be a master , and is actually instructing others on this irresponsible crap. Now,if he stuck with tae kwon do ... I'd have no issue... but gosh... he is teaching and justifying swinging a sword like an idiot...
Obviously , my form and technique is far from perfect... the difference is , I know it... and I am not trying to teach it to others , and justify it as a "natural swing".
And trying to use Musashi to justify it... "allow the weapon to reveal itself to you " huh
Now to my mind , that means learn the proper use of that weapon, and adapt yourself to the techniques it requires... changing yourself to match the weapon, rather than changing the weapon to match what feels right to you ....
In JSA , Golf, and so many other sports, doing what "feels natural" is a recipe for very limited success. Thesse inplements have an optimum way of use, and it will often feel unnatural, until one trains ones self in them , in which case they become natural... the techniques are what they are for a multitude of reasons... involving hara, tosen, hasuji... etc ... this is budo...
If all you want to do is grab up a sword , swing it like a bat , and cut semprini, fine by me... but by all means don't try to claim it is legitimate and teach it to impressionable others.
The apology is tainted by the smart-ass demo that follows it... what is he proving?
It is not surprising that his flailing "works" not surprising that the sword cuts, swords cut... that is what they do...
A person who has never touched a sword can pick one up, swing wildly , and cut ...
A sword cuts... but a swordsman applies proper swordsmanship.. the goal is not just to cut, but to learn actual mastery of technique.... I am a long way off myself, but had I just stuck with made-up "natural swings" I'd have made no progress at all.... would have optimized nothing...
Thats my two pence on Choson Ninja... and the last I will say on it.

I have no problem if people want to disagree with his methods or his teachings; but it's one thing to make a mature, intelligent statement as to why one feels he is in the wrong, and how they feel he may be having a negative impact on this or that but yet another entirely to call names and bash, endlessly.
Thus, Marc, while your post is fine and I certainly agree with your concerns as stated, I feel that some of our members are, perhaps, going a little overboard.
I wouldn't be the least surprised if this fellow suddenly issues a defamation lawsuit against us. Hell, maybe I just gave him the idea by saying that.

Marc as you said he is not a member here & i see no point in the endless discussions regarding his actions when I'm sure 99% of the members can make up their own minds on what is or isn't appropriate in the way of actions, teachings, morals etc.
If people are so entranced or irate with him there are many other sites dedicated to bringing him down so i don't see the point on this site getting caught up in all the negative behavior associated with that.
I had a problem with the cutting video & i contacted him too let him know my thoughts & feelings on the matter at the time. He has posted an apology video & i have again my own thoughts & feelings about this.
I don't intend to lower the overall feel or spirit of this forum i enjoy visiting so much by rehashing the subject or continuing in a pointless exercise that is in relationship to a non member.
I am simply sick of seeing his name pop up over & over, if people are not happy with him, let him know directly, I'm sure most people here would prefer to be shown that courtesy.

Spud, I appreciate your concerns, but I don't see the depth of the problem that you see...
I recall one thread that mentioned him, other than this one...and I locked it.
But the truth is , that I'm not going to censor most topics if people choose to discuss them... as long as they stay reasonably free of hostility.
This is the training section , and by offerinng training in a very public way, Greg has, like it or not, made himself, and his training topical to this board....
Would I prefer never to hear about him ?
Sure....
but if people feel his training needs to be discussed here in the training section, it is entirely topical and I won't stop it, as long as it doesn't get too out of hand...
FWIW , I have tried to comment on some of these guys videos, and comments are by approval only... and the only ones that get approved are the "awesome dude !!!" posts....
At any rate , as I 've said , this is only the second thread I recall about Choson... far from over and over....
But if these threads do keep reappearing I'll look into some way to discourage it then....

Well I know he has quite a history and baggage about him...but in this thread I hope to keep it to what he is saying about training with a sword...which is what this board is for. Basically saying go out and bash stuff like a baseball I think is pretty unsafe. Most people would think better then to do that...they they see this idiot do it and mimic him.
Okay some history of how I came cross this video. I live in an apartment complex and everyone knows I collect swords. Some of the other tenants and their kids pretty interested in what I do and I do give some small lessons when I get overrun with bottles. Sometimes I do this at some of local parks as well. There is a kid who is 14 who has been showing some promise(yes the parents approve...he´s become a lot more disciplined since I started teaching him...helping out his parents store more and taking better care of his little sister)...anyways recently he started to baseball bat the bottle so I stopped him and asked him why he did that. He said he was searching youtube for cutting videos and came across this video. He fell for the whole do what feels good so you feel better garbage and so that is why he did it (actually ran into kris konrad´s video in the other thread from it...how anyone could call greg parks cuts awesome and his horrible is beyond me). That is why I posted this video. It has actually cause somebody I was teaching harm. His form had gotten worse because of this nonsense. Quite frankly I am PISSED right now and it took me a few days before I could compose a detailed message that would not get me in some hot water with the moderators.
BTW Marc, well put +1
