In my opinion, I think hardened leather would be more than enough. It is much lighter then plate or mail armor, and is more than enough for bites and scratches. For a zombie apocalypse, you want light, fast stuff, as most of your energy is for running. And guys... Relax. There is no point arguing on the internet. On the internet I can be a 7 foot tall, 300LB man made of muscle who carries a giant sword and a quadruple barreled shot gun if I wanted to be, but I ain't and should not expect anyone to believe so, even if I am... unless I have pictures and a video to prove it that is... Also, I personally like Giant Anime Swords and Double Barrel shot guns. In fact, I firmly believe I have actually seen a double barrel shotgun, as my grandpa may have owned one. But I have a lot of false memories. But because I like them, it does not qualify them to be practical. I would take a Machete over a giant sword during a Zombie Apocalypse anyday. I hope I didn't miss the point of this thread.

I'm inclined toward a full suite (hauberk, coif and chausses) from www.ringmesh.com, based on a recommendation from Odingaard Saebryn. It's a little expensive, but looks extremely durable and light weight. Add some tactical knee and elbow pads beneath the mail. Also add some face protection beneath the coif. Finish off with a pair of these Wiley-X TAG-1 tactical gloves. I would think all padding should be worn beneath the mail to prevent having exposed straps etc that make handy grabbing points. Total weight of that kit shouldn't be much more than a set of heavy-duty motorcycle leathers, but much more protective. At least that's the theory...

That's the spirit, Mike! Or, the getup that fatecaller's putting together- that looks like some straight Mad Max/Post-apocalyptic/Zombie-shredder armor.
I think I'd go with fatecaller's get up, but reinforced using ringmesh...and since zombies don't run, all you have to be able to do is sustain a relatively easy jog to keep ahead of them, turn around and take a few potshots, corral them all into a chokepoint and toss a few grenades to watch the gibbets fly!
Maybe I should create a thread - what would you bring to a zombie war?
Speaking of armor, maybe there should be some kinda closed/airtight/watertight helmet so zombie crap doesn't accidentally fly into your mouth or any other membraneous material that could cause contamination of the warrior?

Zombies would tear at the exposed area, and make one badass looking zombie out of you if you don't have some sort of other protection. If you get riveted aluminum chainmail, it's lightweight, and durable enough to not be bit through. Also, to mine, I would like to add something over my face under the helmet so that zombie blood has no chance of entering my system, something as simple as a black bandana seems like it should do fine.

I think I just changed my mind; I'll wear a mithril body suit underneath my street clothes- as you well know, mithril can stop a spear thrust from a Moria Cave Troll- no additional padding needed!
Zombies will break their teeth and nails trying to bite me; hmm... might have to wear an enviro suit/skin underneath that armor. Wouldn't want their sludge to get on me.

I also agree on Chain armor but i have never worn it before and i have reasons to wonder how exactly it works.. If a zombie chomps down on your mithril chain covered arm would his teeth really just break or would it squish your arm until the skin breaks? bad wording but... yea.... Lol

LOL
Well Koni, I'm just going based on Frodo's experiences during the Moria fight- that thrust would've skewered a wild boar but he came away without any injury whatsoever, not even a bruise!
But the biting/crushing injuries...you might have a point. Maybe some plate armor for more exposed parts like arms, legs, neck, head...I'd like to think I'd be in constant motion, laying about with my sword right and left that they're not going to be able to get at me.
Yea, cuz I'm that good at zombie-slaying lol

i suppose i would try the chainmail out ..and if it didnt affect mobility or saved me from infection i guess i wouldnt mind running around sounding like bag full of clinking beer tabs...side note.....what are the chances that zombies react to laserpointers the same as pet dogs and cats?? i think its a possibility!!

Yea, cuz I'm that good at zombie-slaying lol If it doesn't slow me down much i would wear Hard leather chest with chain under it.. some good hard leather pauldrons, gauntlets, shin guards and thigh guards All leather with a layer of plate molded into the leather or however you might be able to do it... hmm... and i would also wrap some chain mail around my legs, ;D Super heavy defense! i cant wear helmets, i hate having anything on my head, squeezing or just weighing it down.

But Koni, no helmet means they could, ostensibly, suck your brains out with little trouble...say if one were to shimmy down a rope overhead while you were dealing death to his brethren- he could punch a straw right in the top of your dome. at least wear a metal cap or spangenhelm with out the cheek plates!
