Jonis of UBC came to visit me this week and we had a big cutting party at my place yesterday in his honor. it seems the get-together has been dubbed the "Mini-Moyoushi" but whatever it is called it was a LOT of fun.
I'm going to start posting videos from it here.

Great vids Tom! Thanks and +1! Especially loved the last one of the east/west two-sword bamboo cutting.

Nice.... who was there? I can't wait until I get a chance to cut tatami one day. I've never even cut beach mats, lol. ;D Great cutting! -Slayer

Wow Tom... that video is really useful... now I see a LOT more clearly what you were saying about my steping too far forward in the cut... my back leg isn't even touch the ground and I'm completely off balance. I'm going to work on what you, I and Hiroshi talked about, and hopefully make a much better showing of it up in Canada this summer. The picture is worth a thousand words is very true in this case... I no fully understand what you were saying. Thanks... +1 for that.

Woah I can't believe how sharp you got your Kaze to be.. Maybe someday when I'm older I can try doing that. You guys are fun to watch. I always enjoy watching your videos. How long does it take up to clean up all the mats? In some of those videos it looks like they're scattered all over the whole yard. I hope someday I can order some of those... maybe when I'm older. +Karma and stuff ;D

Great to see all that video... it was such an amazing fun time... I wish it never had to come to an end. Don't worry man. This summer they will be more . If you make it to the moyoushi, at the end of the week-end, you will be tired of backyard cutting. Or you will be in withdrawal and require an intensive rehab for your backyard cutting addiction ...

Man. I happened across jonis's first vid on youtube somehow and was amazed. Looked into it a little realized he'd been at your house! Frikkin' exciting man! Is he around our forums? Seems like he'd be pretty awesome to have around.
I didn't realize that he was the man behind UBC. Honestly, when I first heard about it, I thought it sounded dubious, considering what can usually be found on youtube, but I am so impressed.

oh man it was a great time. we cut through FOUR boxes of tatami and a small pile of bamboo. only a few water bottles died in the frey but they gave their lives willingly for a good cause. the targets were ready, the swords were sharp, the blades were strong, and the friendship was tight and true; it was a very good day.
