I have to shout out a warning to swordmonger7, and anyone else wanting to play with fluorescent bulbs. They are under partial vacuum and will shatter when broken. Imploding and then exploding, sending shards of glass in all directions. Very dangerous! The one you used must have had a leak in it so it did not explode when broken. I urge you not to test your luck again.

Grey pipe lagging wrapped tightly in news paper(or other types) held on with rubber bands. It gives nice "tactile" feed back with out being hard to cut or likely to damage your sword. Its dirt cheap and relatively easy to set up. Adding a tight sheet of brown wax paper for the final layer give a good uniform look. Just make sure the layers are tight. Its like nerf tatami.
I really dont want to drag this out but the context in which anything is said must first be considered before judging it as racist.

A soft PVC tube with wet news paper tied (Or rubber bands as mrfatbucket suggested) would be a pretty good target I think. My favorite target of all time is wet, then rolled news paper. It is a tedious task to make them, but the cutting fun is very worth it.

Ive never used pvc tubing but im sure another member has tried various cores wrapped in wet newspaper. Im sure one was wood and the other a white pvc pipe.
I haven't tried soaking the news paper but I have used a spray bottle to dampen it. I haven't noticed much difference but I need to try this with many more layers and see what happens. Its nice to have a little stiffness around the soft foam core. Pool noodles work just the same.

Dog Sausage Meat ........ kinda like lunch meat but for pets, about 6 bucks a big roll size of my arm, its got that thin plastic over it, just hang it up with some string and pickle chip bits off it ....... the meaty thud when it hits the ground particularly satisfying

Even as a little kid, I knew about imploding TV tubes, and once even saved some kids from getting horribly mutilated when they found an old TV picture tube some idiot tossed into the woods. They were about to throw rocks at it from only 3 ft. away They got to see it break, or I should say hear it from behind a building...You should have seen the front of that building afterward BTW, have you ever seen the video where some guy lets himself get smacked across his back with a fluorescent bulb? Stoopid the white powder inside contains mercury, get some of that in a cut, and it may take 3 months to heal

Has anyone ever cut a glass bottle with a sword? Is it even possible, or do you just get flying shards of glass everywhere I may have to try it if I am ever in a dump, and have a sword with me Wouldn't want to try it in my yard, as I am pretty sure it wouldnt work, and then there would be all of those nasty peices of glass everywhere

Homeless people. Nothing like the tactile sensation of your blade cutting through tax-burden flesh. LOL
I was just gonna say meat but a number of others already beat me to it. how about old tires?
