I've just watched the Lord of The Rings trilogy (for the hundredth time), and it was brought to my attention (once again) that the weapons in these movies are truly works of art. And while most of these weapons are available for purchase as wallhangers, almost none of them are actually fully functional. And yes, I know that DSA have made a few fully functional versions of a few these blades, but my question to you is this: Is there a fully functional version of Glamdring (as similar to the design by Weta Workshop as possible) made by any forge? Or if any sword company is currently planning to make one, and in that case, when it will go into production? Glamdring, the sword carried by Gandalf I'm particularly in love with the subtle leafblade design. PS. I searched the forum to see if this had been posted before, but came up empty.

Yeah man, there is a half decent one out there. I think Swordboy bought one? ? I cant remember who made it. But I think it was ok. Someone out there will remember where it was here. It was all on this forum somewhere. But yeah, I can never find anything with the stupid search function. I can type in the title of a thread and where I know it is and it still won't find it. It's crap. (And yes I add zeros to the variables down the bottom.)

could always have brenno make you one! or if you really have the money john lundemo from odin blades did one That's the problem, my interest for swords comes and goes. It's often at it's peak when my economy is at rock bottom, and right now, I'm dying to get me another sword... EDIT: MY GOD does Odin Blades make beautiful blades! The Celtic Wolf is one of the most beautiful blades I've ever seen! Simply stunning! Why, oh, why must I be so poor!?

No one makes a functional Glamdring. United Cutlery made a limited edition high carbon steel blade version, however I don't think anyone has ever used one, so the construction method might be iffy.
If the licensing rights to the weapons has expired at all, I'd love to see some swordsmiths make move-accurate Glamdrings and Andurils. Of course, this takes away from the artistic part of the craft, so I'm sure a lot of smiths wouldnt take the project, even if it were legal.

No one makes a functional Glamdring. No, No. Ther WAS one. Someone here bought it about a year or so ago. It was pretty decent. And not by UC. It was full tang, Hi C blade and all. Did they? I doubt it's even in the ballpark. Anyone who takes one off the wall is asking for trouble. Exactly, and what fun would that be. Here's my Glamdring: www.fableblades.com/Glamdring.htmlLundemo has done a couple as well.

I meant no one makes one currently. The s makes it present tense Brendan. What're they teaching you Down Under these days? As for the UC Glamdring, it was their Museum Collection. Was supposed to be functional, but since they go for a grand now and are irreplaceable, I doubt anyone's going to do a review for us to find out. I'm not really worried about the quality of the steel, more worried about the hilt components and the hilt construction.

Someone dig up that functional sub $300 Glamdring thread that someone bought hey? Then we can see if they do still make them. I think the manufacturer had a 'C' in it?

Did I really? I blame old age. Edit: Have a karma for finding it. I was googling for 15 minutes and only got the UC pieces and patches to put a Glamdring model into a videogame...

Well, there's another option... United Cutlery is back, and started making LOTR swords again...with a few interesting ideas: "I am more interested in carbon steel versions of some of the swords, not necessarily the "Museum" versions in the big display. Anduril and Strider's sword would be good to have with 1045 or 1060 blades." [Kit Rae - April 15, 2008] www.ucforums.com/showthread.php?t=4100&page=3Granted UC is slow in production..but the idea is there... And seeing how Mr. Rae is in charge of the LOTR lineup at UC, there's hope For the record...i have an UC Museum Collection Glamdring. I love it and highly recommend it to anyone who wants an excellent reproduction sword for the wall - and can still find one at a reasonable price. Unfortunelty, i'm not going to test cut with a LE $1000 sword...sorry guys...lol

Very Cool Jash. Have you ever managed to dismantle the hilt for a peek at the tang?

I saw a blow up of the Glamdring sword (I have one of the UC ones, its a beautiful piece, albeit a bit hefty) and does not appear to be full tang, maybe 3/4? I say this because from what I saw, there was a beefy tang but it did not appear to have any way to attach to the pommel- no peen that I could see so...I'm guessing there's a nut in there somewhere. It is listed as having a rat-tail but what I saw was much more substantial than that. Guess there's a rat tail in there somewhere, eh?
Its a beaut to look at, that's for sure. I've seen Brenno's and John's renditions...nice stuff; they both make some really awesome pieces.

Yes, but was that the SS version of the MC version? We're wondering if they used a safe method of construction for the Museum Collection edition.

I prefer Brenno's glamdring personally, I like leaf blades but somehow Brenno's just captures what I had in mind when I read about glamdring also it looks more functional. Of all the blades Bren has made that I would buy stock standard it would be his glamdring and gurthang.

Very Cool Jash. Have you ever managed to dismantle the hilt for a peek at the tang? Firstly - Brenno, man, you make some really nice swords! As for taking apart the MC Glam - Sorry, but not yet... I shall giv'er a go in a couple weeks when I'm back at home with my swords...lol. In the meantime, though, I found this pic. It's of a regular SS United Cutlery Strider's Ranger Sword. www.ucforums.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=3746(Sorry for the link...trying to figure out how to post pics...lol)

And yeah, that tang is promising. I know in the writeups for Glamdring they always say 'Rat Tail tang' so this makes me more curious.
