Hey Crockett. Another good one there. I especially like the langet. The only thing I would do different is maybe make the ricasso a hair wider. Good design.

I like the fact you are deigning with me in mind. I look forward to making one of these.
I too like the Fleur de Lys Langett - If I was to make it I'd do the Fleur as a Rain guard between the guard and grip. Sizing is ideal for a Bastard I think. I like the overall aesthetic. And the green grip suits it really well. I like the pommel design, but would like to see some flourish at the end of the quillions - but hey, I'm a bit OTT

Nice... For me, I'd like the grip one inch longer... but I have huge bear paws. I like the gree, and the steel ring in the grip, love that style. I agree with Maz... the Riasco should be a bit thicker, or the blade at the base of the cutting edge should be a bit thiner, one or the other. Lastly, I'd agree with Brenno, the guillions could use some scroll flare, especialy if you had him in mind. Little tweak here and there but, all in all, very nice.

Looks a lot like the Strider sword from LOTR; with the exception of overall length, pommel and length of the fuller- oh, and the ricasso. Still, its a good looker...and probably my fave of all the ones I've seen thus far from you, crockett. Good stuff.

I like the fact you are deigning with me in mind. I look forward to making one of these. I think pretty much all of use are looking forwards to seeing you make one of these. They're such nice designs, I like how they're distinct without being over the top, would sure love to see what they actually look like in steel.

This....by far....is my favorite "For Brenno" sword so far. It was meant to be a type XVI....but turned into a XVI leaf blade...and it took off from there. Not exactly sure where it was going, after the blade I did my usual and went to the guard...which turned out looking like antlers to me. So I made the fuller and then the grip and pommel. The pommel, in case I didn't do a good enough job (lol) is supposed to be modeled after a deer track. This one just....well it surprised me. Which is so fun, it makes the sword seem like it is truly it's own piece when it surprises even the artist. On the functional side, the pommel looks big, but it is made that way for the sake of balance closer to the guard. The purpose is to make the sword quick, and graceful like the deer. Blade itself is designed as a Cut-and-thrust. Fantasy Side: Named after the majestic stag, the sword Héahdéor, was created for the Angelic captain, Renmír. The sword became famous for it's loud, high hum which emulated the bugle of a bull elk. In the face of battle, the sword grew excited and glowed pure white. Héahdéor was also noted as a very excitable sword, known to "bugle" and glow even when still in its scabbard. Length: 39" Blade: 31" Grip: 6" Grip w/ Pommel: 8" Weight: 2 lb 10 oz Enjoy, and thanks! Crockett

How long roughly do they take you to make? I can't use any of my paint programs that well. Which program do you use?
It isn't a leaf blade is it? it looks like the blade is parallel but the flare to teh ricasso gives the illusion of the leaf shape.
I could certainly make the guard much like the guard on my Sting, by splitting it then curving it to shape. Again I'd do the langettey bit as a rain guard. The hoof idea would look cool too. It's not as garish as the Conan sword, but using the simple geometric shapes gives that impression without having to be a sculpture. Yup, this is one I could certainly make.
I like the way your fable is shaping up. And you mention how the spirit in the sword comes out, not unlike the quote from Tinker under my avatar. Thanks for these.

I'm looking at it and can't decide if it is a subtle leaf or not. Very nice design anyway. +1

Hey Brenno,
I use Photoshop 7.0, and I use the line tool to make my outlines. I have a tablet I use for more complicated stuff too. But on average the swords used to take me five to eight hours. But then I figured a beeter way to make blades out and that cut my time down to 3 - 5 hours.
And please inform me here...I think I have an idea...but could you tell me what you mean by a "rain guard"?

Rain guard's usually a flap of leather that sits just above the guard; when your sword's in-scabbard, it helps to keep the rain out. I have a sword with a leather one, although I seem to remember seeing at least one sword with a steel one. Might it have been the Redeemer by CF?

Aha! Ok. Well, I did not design it as a rain guard as much a "lock" for a scabbard...snapping into place with a locket. Maybe that's what you meant, Brenno.
Thanks for the info, Paladin.
By the way, Paladin - what kind of swords do you like?

I really like this one. If I had the money for FB I might well ask him to make that. Nice work.

Hey, thanks Maz! Glad you like. And if Brenno does make it, maybe you can get your paws on it one day.

I like the look of this one alot, but again, the grip would not work for me... to big for a comfotable single hand, to small for a comfortable two hand. Damn my big paws.

I'll see if I can't do something about that on my next go 'round, Howler.

Ok! I am excited about this one. A fantasy Viking - back to the beginnings for me. But this is easily one of the best vikings, IMHO, I've put out. It was designed with a certain character of a story in mind, but I'll keep that to myself for now. It was made, also, with two real life people in mind. #1, it was made with Brenno in mind for a smith. #2, it was made with a 5" single hand grip design for Shadowhowler's "paws". I hope 5" isn't too small, Howler. Called Dethunor, properly spelled Deþunor, meaning "Thunder". Thanks guys!

Thats great. It's a bout as far from viking as you can go without being totally removed from viking style I reckon. I'm sure I can make it too. I like the pommel shape, it wouldn't dig into your hand at all like most viking swords. Plum brown those fittings hey? My hands are 95mm across, so surely 125mm would have to be enough for beorn the bear man SH. It is a leaf this time too isn't it. The blade shape is not unlike La Fleur de Lys - just a bit more acute at the tip. I think acute tips are great since I do all my cutting 2/3 down the blade, and never the tip. So I like a stabby tip. 29" is perfect, and about the outer region I like for a single. I think it's cool how you did the flat / bevel transition in front of the guard. Just so we're all clear I'd be very happy to make these designs if anyone falls in love with one in particular. Just PM me or crockett for a quote. In fact I've already made this sword in my mind just now.

I would probably slim up the guard and pommel parts though. Less weight is better than closer POB - I reckon. A leaf blade is designed for chopping, so a bit of distance on the POB is not a bad thing - give it some power. I should do some more shorter swords. They have been getting longer and bigger. I like me a handy single hander. Right now I'm working on a 45"er, a 50"er, and a 41" cleaver. I'd like to get back to a couple of singles, and I do need a vikingish sword for my repertoir. Keep them coming and I might choose one to make with my next batch in a few weeks.

Nice looking design Crockett. Thunder as in Thor ? That's what came to my mind when I saw the hilt. Looks like a rendition of a hammer of Thor. I'm one of those who believe that some of the hilts found on original "viking" swords were made to represent Thor's hammer and thus a religious symbol to the user, as well as providing a firm grip of the sword. The Type H pommel comes to mind and is very similar to the hilt on your Thunder. I'd be very tempted to purchase this sword with some changes. Great work as is usual. + 1 2 U.
