I'm not aware of any typology for The leaf blades. But without it, it would be either XII or XVI. Depends on the cross section of the unfullered tip part. It is maybe just a bit too acute for XII but not necessarily. There are some very acute XII's.

Nice designs; I'll be interested to see how it is realized in solid form.

Thank You, Paladin. These may never be realized, but they might be. My designs are not made for me. I make them whenever I feel creative. However, I will gladly design swords for anyone who asks me too. I'd like to eventually make a business out of it. Just don't know if there is a market for designers. My plan would be to have someone ask for a sword design. I ask a few questions - favorite colors, sword styles, and then maybe just talk to them and get an idea for their personality. Then I take that idea and design a sword to match both their preferences and the person. After that, we find a smith or maker. DSA, Brenno, and Chris Fields would be my first choices for a customer, and then we get blade construction figured out and then blade, hopefully, made. Pricing could be fixed, I suppose, or it could be a percentage of the sword's price. Leaving it to the sword maker to determine the price, 2-5% would probably be plenty for me. Fixed would be from $20 to $30. For now, however, I'm just getting my designs out there, seeing if people like them enough to have me work on a design for them. This blade, fresh from the tablet, for instance, was designed for my brother, Ty. I wanted something to come out like it was functional and yet good looking....as well as unique. No stats yet.

Hello Crockett. You've got a real sense for the asthetics in swords. Do you have a place were you have all of your designs to browse. I would love to see them.

Wow, Sonny! Thank you for the compliment - I'm truly flattered.
I'll PM you with the gallery. I believe I have it locked off, so I can PM you some images if you'd like.

$20-30 you say? That's not too much to ask, provided the customer had some input during the process. I'd pay it; as I'm not creative enough to imagine my own sword yet. I see others' work and I'm like a kid in a really, really great candy store.

LOL I know the feeling, Paladin.
If you ever want a sword designed for you, just say the word. Just PM me and we'll talk.
I've designed swords for only two people, with one being a serious consideration - I think - and that's Shadowhowler's "Lafsblaud" sword, a 25" viking design.
Thank you for the feedback, Palidan, been hoping to find some for a while.

Alright, been far, far too long since I've had a design. Normally, I like to plan out what I want, in basics, and then let my eyes and hands explore what can be done with the idea and eventually we have a sword. This one...didn;t have a plan. It was actually just a sword I felt like making...but at no time did I have an image if what I wanted. It pieced together line by line and eventually it fell out of my head like a new born calf...Kah-Plop! Thoughts always welcome, guys! Thanks all. Crockett

Thanks Brendan! But please...inform me...which one exactly is a Type XIV? I am far from an expert yet. I'm assuming that Hildebeas is a type XVIa.
Also, with Hildebeas, my main concern is whether or not it can be produced - mainly because of the pommel. So, in your opinion as a maker, is this sword "makable"? Or would it need to be changed?

Sorry, typo. I meant XVI - why dont we just say 16, you know theres no type 61, lol. It's like every time I write 'the' I put 'teh', or 'balde' instead of 'blade'. It always seems to happen.
Hildebeas could certainly be made. The pommel having the hole through it is alot like some of the stuff Lundemo does. It can just be drilled and filed out etc. The only thing is it restricts your attachment methods. It'd have to be a screw on, as you couldn't peen it or have a recessed nut as I prefer.

Aha! Ok. So I guess you liked Brytnere and Hildebeás then. Hildebeás is a new animal for my. I'm not normally a thrust-cut fan....or at least I thought such. But she turned out well...I've discovered a new way to make the blades - which is what I always start with - and the fittings, like I mentioned, came with random ideas. But she turned out nice, and IMHO, some of the more graceful looking furniture I've drawn.
Thanks for the kind words, Brenno. One day we'll get someone to make one of my swords....somehow...someway....someday.

You'll find that Peter Lyon / Weta favours alot of XVI stuff in their swords. They look nice. I like all the swords in this thread alot. I like those two, but I also like the flared shoulder on Bealdor, the way it is flared, runs parallel, and then goes to a gradual acute point. It gives the impression of a leaf blade though I'm sure that it isn't waisted (without measuring). Freawine (though it should be called Free Beer) has a very light flare to the shoulder too I notice, which looks great.
My favourite blade: Hildebeas - the tapered fuller shows the distal taper, and the definite diamond section reinforcing the acute point.
Favourite Guard - Bealdor - cos it's lightweight, a good aesthetic, and from a craftsmans point of view.
Fave Scabbard and Pommel - Hildebeas - though again the pommel would be a tricky one. But it looks great - followed by the pommel on Brytnere - thats nice.
Favourite Grip, Bealdor. I like the high central riser with the 2 leather ones.

Wow, even got some rankings there, eh? Thanks Brenno, hehe.
Let's see if I can't come up with a Brenno-friendly design here shortly. I'm assuming the only limitation you truly have is in the fuller. Your fittings always impress me so let me see what I can do.

Scrolls? If those are the little curly-cue things on the fittings...they are really not my style. I would think a colab between you and me would need to have styling and preference from both sides, no?
But if I'm wrong...what are scrolls? LOL

Ok, the last new design thread got pushed aside. Either the design wasn't up to snuff or folks are getting tired of my posting. LOL Anyhoo, here is the latest - Fengel. This one was designed as a fantasy based sword - forged by angels to combat demonic threats. And it was made with one particular maker in mind - our own Brendan "Brenno" Olzowy. Brendan has been a constant encourager of my designing, and is also a sword maker. So it only makes sense to me that I make a design or two with him specifically in mind. I've had several designs so far, but this one I am kind of proud of...it's a step away from the ordinary. So, if I could please get some opinions on this sword? Like...what are your thoughts on the looks? The blade? If someone made it, would you buy it? So on. Weight: 2.8lb Total length: 44" Blade width (at widest) 1 3/4" Type: Fantasy XVI Genre: Cut and Thrust Thanks all!

Impressive looking sword that one, I don't imagine it would be that hard to replicate in steel from my limited knowledge of that process.
